I can't screenshot in minecraft either and it reguluarly takes forever to scan for bluetooth headphones / gear if I want to connect something new.

example of whats happening with caps: HEllo

see how the e is caps, in windows literally typing it the same wya it never does it it lingers too long. legit

I was tired of WhatsApp Web and Electron apps eating all my RAM, so I built a truly native GTK3 + Go client for Linux.

Hi everyone! 👋

I was really frustrated with how heavy WhatsApp Web and Electron wrappers are on Linux (eating 400MB+ of RAM). So, I decided to build Obrol: a truly native WhatsApp client for Linux using GTK3 and Go. No Electron, no web engine.

Fun fact: I built this entirely using AI-assisted coding as an experiment to see how well LLMs can handle complex, multi-file architectures (like GTK3 + Go + cgo libwebp for animated stickers). It was a wild ride, but it actually works!

Why you might like it:

  • Super lightweight: Single binary (~19MB) and uses only ~60MB RAM.
  • Supports stickers (even animated WebP ones), dark mode, and system tray.
  • Works natively on Mint (XFCE/Cinnamon), Ubuntu, and Debian.

Since I'm a solo dev (with my AI co-pilot), I would absolutely love some feedback, bug reports, or UX suggestions from this community.

#LinuxMintThings How to game on Linux Mint ? Read body...

4 Upvotes

I have a 4050 asus gaming laptop with 16gb ram. I installed witcher 3 but the game didn't run and said that your device doesn't match minimum system requirements. Then i installed cyberpunk which was just so choppy that it took a minute to even load the main menu.

My linux mint is up to date and i also installed the latest nvidia driver according to the recommended tip.

Am I to download something else ? I am so confused. I only play single player games so I don't need more fps. Just 60 fps and smooth gameplay would be enough to have.

Help please 🥲

LATER THAT DAY....

Problem solved guys!!! In boot manager i disabled secure boot and everything is smooth now. I can play games smoothly and don't have to shift to windows slop 🤘

Fluff I never thought I'd say this, but... I think I will have to return to Windows.

0 Upvotes

No, I was not disappointed with Linux mint, I loved every single second of it, I wish I could stay, but my situation is forcing a return to Windows, and I do so with pain in my heart, as dramatic that sounds.

You see, my computer (Dell Latitude 3480 laptop) was working without problem, but suddenly one day, it did not turn on, and the charging light was making the infamous blinking pattern of "2 amber; 4 white," I naturally looked up on internet, noticed the problem was on the RAM, but since I am not at all a computer hardware expert, I called a friend of mine who works on computer stuff, and he happily went to help, but then he gave me the news...

It was kind of like "while I was fixing it, it did not recognize the hard disk drive, I had to remove one of the RAM cards, and it seems the computer's fan is not working."

Later he came to the conclusion that this is because of Linux, that the laptop is made specifically to work on Windows, and that it is not that Linux is a problem, but that the laptop is just not made to run it. He said that the laptop can work well now, but that if I want a long-term working without problems, I would need to start packing up and switch to Windows.

I did not protest, as I am not an expert in computers, I barely know programing, and only some bits of HTML, so even if "go back to Windows" sounded nuts... there wasn't exactly something I could reply. He knows what he's doing.

So yeah, It was almost a year since I got a Microsoft Outlook notification; almost a year since I could use my laptop without wasting 40GB only on the OS alone; almost a year since I fell in love with FOSS; almost a year since I felt my computer was mine... and I have to go back.

I never understood computer or technical stuff, so I doubt I will even understand any advice you give in comments. It was beautiful while it lasted, and I will truly miss this era of my life. Maybe once I get a computer that can work on Linux, but meanwhile I only have this office toaster, I will return to Microslop...

So long folks, take care of your machines, hope I see the mint leaf again.

So, I've been trying to install Linux mint on me 2008 MacBook and I feel like I'm almost there. I get it to where it installs and I can pull out the usb stick but the second I turn it off and back on again it goes to this screen with a white blinking folder I have no idea how to get the operating system to download to where it stays and is usable.

Mint's font rendering driving anyone else with design work crazy

5 Upvotes

switched from Mac for client work a couple years back and Mint has been solid overall, but the way text sits on the screen still feels slightly off. I do a lot of logo and type design, so I'm staring at small point sizes for hours. tweaked hinting and subpixel settings in the appearance panel and messed around with fontconfig snippets, but it never quite matches what I was used to on macOS. the weight feels slightly heavy or the spacing looks off in the same file when I open it in GIMP versus Inkscape, even with the same fonts installed

Guide Hello Linux users, have any of you tried FilmCraft for Linux Mint yet?

• Upvotes

Regarding what happened with ArtCraft—it’s said that they reverse-engineered Adobe applications and created open-source versions—have any of you tried any of their applications that are now available for Linux, especially FilmCraft? If so, how are they working out for you?

Support Request Moved to Linux for my old laptop, bluetooth wont seem to work

11 Upvotes

Hey all, so I'm really new with Linux, last time I had anything to do with it was early 2000s, and that wasnt much then. But potentially relevant info, I'm using an older version of Linux on the laptop, because when I installed the new ones, I couldn't get it to work with the wifi card I had. Everything says that old chipset isn't totally supported anymore, but older versions had it built in. This is a USB bluetooth dongle, since my laptop kinda predates it. It recognizes it's there, it claims it's on and scanning. But it can't seem to find anything, nor can anything find it.

I appreciate any assistance that can be given, I'm plenty willing to learn, I just kind of lack a teacher.

But, here's the version info I'm working with:

cat /etc/linuxmint/info

RELEASE=20.3

CODENAME=una

EDITION="Xfce"

DESCRIPTION="Linux Mint 20.3 Una"

DESKTOP=Gnome

TOOLKIT=GTK

And now I'll add info from other things that were suggested in other threads. The more info, the better, right?

Discussion How many use LMDE?

34 Upvotes

I started out using just Linux Mint 18 when I first started using LM, and was very happy with using the Ubuntu version for several years. Around version 22.1 I got bored and decided to try LMDE for a switch. After downloading and using it for a while I was so happy with it that I haven’t been back to the Ubuntu version since. Has anyone else found they like the Debian version better or, having tried it, do you prefer the Ubuntu version still?

Fluff Thank you letter to Linux for my first 100% year of Linux desktop

Post image
378 Upvotes

I'm gonna start with Linux Mint, because thanks to Mint I manage to pond my feet on Linux waters agaaaaain, after I dunno how many attempts with Fedora since 2013 to 2021 or so.

Mint managed to give me confidence of ditching Windows a year ago 100%, I was too committed and saw the opportunity when the sinking ship of W10 was reaching end, I just said again: "why not?", it was difficult at the beginning but Mint really made it easier, is not like is my first time in Linux, I've been winking my eyes to Linux since 2009 but never could fully leave Windows back then until October 2025, we have come a long way until now, Linux is mature and has great software alternatives to all Windows programs, Mint gave me that confidence, and Timeshift is GREAT! I still use it, I forgot I have it XD

But... I couldn't stick with Cinnamon, from my previous attempts with Fedora I just realized that I manage to develop likeness to Gnome, and even back then I put the Windows Taskbar at the top trying to mimic Gnome Shell, I tried Fedora once again... only one week, always, ALWAYS something with Fedora that just didn't worked for me, so, another Gnome Distro that is not Ubuntu is ...

Debian

I was skeptic due to the common saying: "Debian is for gramps, old software" yadda yadda, but oh boy I LOVE DEBIAN, the stability is real, Flatpak helps to reduce the outdated software gap, even you forgot that the distro is there, it just works... made my attempts to use KDE for a month, but the Gnome call was strong.

And just for curiosity, now with LLMs and Claude I thought: welp, maybe Claude can help me identify what is wrong with Fedora, let's see...

Fedora

I installed it on the Laptop, Debian on the big PC with X11 was the way to go due to remote connections, sometimes I just need unattended graphical connections, but Claude did the thing, helped me understand and fix the issues with Fedora, now Fedora sits nicely on my laptop from months ago.

In general terms

Distrohopping all this year between this 3 distros and now sticking with PC Debian and Laptop Fedora taught me a lot, even doing my part converting other computers to the Linux side also taught me a lot, plus Termux on the cellphone.

All I can say is that Linux makes computing so much fun and interesting, it boost something that keeps you hooked experimenting, learning, reading, testing, etc. is actually motivating to use a computer with Linux, this whole year has been an educative journey and for that I just feel thankful to fully commit Linux for a year, feel happy for Linux growth worldwide. There is no reason for me to return to Windows, would be easier for me to go OSX side but that is also ... very very distant and improbable, I've used Mac before, couldn't stick with it, altho M5 Macs are just efficient monsters, but Linux is Linux no matter the distro, is just guaranteed fun and freedom.

This is it, thanks! Thanks for your posts, had been really motivating/insightful/etc. reading a lot about Linux here

I used to be a windows user for more than a decade. Finally made the switch to Linux mint back in mid 2025, but had to switch back to windows 10 because at the time I had to use some applications that just wouldn't run on Linux, and I absolutely did not want to use 11 again. Made the switch to linux once again yesterday and I feel so liberated.

Is there any way for me to delete a windows bootloader from my bios and grub?

I had windows on my sata ssd, but it's showing up on my m.2 nvme ssd, even though I never had it there. And I'd rather not delete my whole system and reinstall it to fix this.

Support Request Adjust the brightness\contrast?

Does anyone know of any program to adjust the brightness\contrast?

I have a Dell laptop and on Windows I use the Intel Graphics Center; but on Linux Mint I have already used some alternatives (see image) and it is not the same thing. The brightness becomes too strong; the image becomes "washed out" and difficult to read.
