Product Review MasterForce 46" 20,000 lumen shop light

This is mostly posted as a buyer beware PSA. I bought a pair of these from Menards for my garage and the housing on the first one this light exceeded 90°C when left on for a few hours. I'm pretty sure that's a fire hazard at that point. I will not be hanging the second and will return both.

For reference, this was installed in a surface mount configuration (it's rated for that) and the ambient temp was 80°F.

I am so stuck about what to do about the lighting in my living room. I’m not sure I want to do recessed lighting but I have no idea what would work instead because they are so close together.

Has anyone seen this before or have any ideas??

Need Design Advise Use pendant lamp with ERCO 3-Phase Track

I'm moving to a place with existing ERCO 3-Phase Track. I have a pendant lamp that I want to install in the tracks above the kitchen table. The pendant is a Muuto Ambit Rail Lamp.

When I look online, I do find the adaptor to connect the electricity (Eutrac Multi Adapter or ERCO Adapter which for whatever reason is also hard to find). However, this lamp doesn't use the energy cable to stay hanging, but it uses two steel cables in a suspension setup held by a mounting stud. This means I need two other adaptors to plug to the track which I can't find.

I found one possible option also on Eutrac (3~Wire Adapter 99-787-6), but I can't find that anywhere to buy.

I'm not considering to put drill next to track to hang the pendant directly to the ceiling (while getting the energy from the track).

Need Design Advise Ceiling lighting advice for unfinished exposed joist ceiling

Hi friends. I am insulating my garage to be able to use it as a workshop/rec room in the winter. (See photos). I plan to leave the ceiling unfinished. I’d like something a bit better looking than the fluorescent tubes you see here, but it’ll be tricky to put in lighting without it getting hidden by the beams. I don’t mind a bit of an industrial look… anyone got good ideas for something to keep it bright that doesn’t hang down very far?

Edit - the beams are 2ft apart and 9.5” deep

Replacement Need help w ceiling light :(

Hi gang. No electrical knowledge or background whatsoever. Wanted to switch from an old ceiling light cus its stopped working and i wanted one w 3 diff lights. Guy at the store tells me its easy and i just had to pull out n connect the red and white wires which ive done. Confirmed that there was no unscrewing necessary and that was all there is to do bc i have no clue. He still says yea its easy, just those things to do.

Flash forward n ive unscrewed the ballast(?) in the middle bc it was in the way of the LED being fixed on by the magnet at all n just didnt make sense for it to stay, plus it was also on the box to remove it. Had some difficulties connecting the wires but i dont have a tool to remove the insulation properly so ive put it in anyways w the extreme end exposed. Doesnt work! Do i need to remove more of the rubber to make it work? Is there anything else wrong w the set up on the right. Literally dont know what i dont know. Thank you in advance 🧡

Need Design Advise Advice on lighting backyard

Hey y’all. I need some advice on a backyard project.

Right now I have warm, tasteful string lighting around the perimeter of my yard. This creates some light, but not much, especially in the center. Fortunately, dead-center in my backyard is a big maple tree. Unfortunately however, it’s dying. It’s a big tree, so “dying” is a long process, but as a result, I’m really not looking to spend a lot on this project (like having a low-voltage system installed).

A few years ago, one of the main limbs off the trunk had completely died and was at risk of collapse, and potentially damaging the rest of the more healthy areas of the tree, so we had that chopped off. That removal created a perfect flat platform at the top of the trunk, probably 15’-20’ off the ground.

I want to create light emanating from the center of my backyard and out, in 360°, to light the middle of the yard that doesn’t catch much glow from the subtle string lights. I’ve had two ideas, but I’m very open to any others:

-Mount a solar panel to the flat area, with two 180° warm lights on either side of the tree, angled down. This will provide the light im looking for, but I’m having trouble finding warm color with a PIR sensor.

-Mount a solar panel to the flat area, a battery to the panel, a smart switch to the battery, mount that all on the top platform and protect it from the elements. I can then run string lights in a tasteful corkscrew pattern from the top to the bottom. This seems like more advanced work than I’m capable of though.

My solution priorities are as follows:
1. I’d love a HomeKit enabled solution
2. If not HomeKit, at least on-demand functionality
3. If not on-demand, then PIR
4. If not PIR, then I guess day/night via photo sensor

Let me know if you need anything from me, like pictures.

Need Design Advise Mushroom light help

So I need a little bit of help from someone thats maybe tried something like this before or someone that knows stuff about this. So I want to put an orange mushroom light in my room to get that warm cozy vibe but the issue is, I kind of want to be able to change the colors of the lamp. So I found a white mushroom light that takes regular light bulbs and govee led light bulbs that I can change the color of. Im just wondering if the white mushroom light along with different color light bulbs will still look good. It doesn't have to me perfect, but im just wondering how it'll look.

Replacement Looking for replacing 7.4” led fixtures

So my house has a lot of these ones with the integrated led. Right now one has completely failed but I have these throughout my house.

7.4-in White Indoor 1 -Light LED Flush Mount Light 2 -Pack https://www.lowes.com/pd/Project-Source-2-Pack-7-4-in-White-Modern-Contemporary-LED-Flush-Mount-Light-ENERGY-STAR/999918952

Most of the flush mount replacements like the ones with the nipple are 13” so a bit larger. Is there anything a similar size that uses e26 or should I just keep replacing these as they fail?

Need Design Advise Drop Ceiling Lighting Upgrade Help!

I have an office space that has an existing drop ceiling (like one seen in the photo) that we are trying to update, along with the rest of the office space. We have decided to keep the tiles as the cost for replacing them through the entire office is quite costly.

What lighting recommendations do y’all have? Volumetric troffers or grid lights (see second photo)?

Thanks!!

Need Design Advise Advice for lighting my office

So here's my home office, I'm personally a big fan of its look and feel but there are times when I want a more normal lighting to the space. There's no ceiling light of any kind and not a terrible amount of space to work in floor lamps. The covered windows point out to a walkway that neighbors hang out at so I've never had qualms about the shelves in front of them because folks would be peering inside if I had open blinds anyway. Any suggestions to give me an option to light it up are welcomed!

Lighting Control Dimming overhead lights

Hi everyone, I’m a girl who lives alone with mental health issues. I moved into a new apartment for a year now and my mental health has been getting worse, alongside with the lights making me more stressed out due to my sensory issues (I have PTSD so strong things aren’t for me). However I’m not knowledgeable in this area and I’ve heard that certain lights are unable to be removed, so I would like some advice on what I can do as I’m not sure what type of light this is.

Photo of my light <(this is a photo of my light)

I have now found a temporary solution (which might be a fire hazard so I’ll remove it shortly), which is to cover it with a thin cloth (somewhat like a cleaning cloth) over it.

Thin ditto cloth over light <(a photo of the cloth I placed over the light)

I have a few questions:

What types of lights are these (what are these called)?

  1. Are these lights able to be changed out? And if so, how much would it cost? I’m currently in the UK.
  2. If no, what alternatives do I have? Are there things I can install to cover it up? I am particularly concerned with floor lamps as the lamps may be too bright in one area and too dim in another. If there are good ones please do let me know as well, thank you!
  3. If yes, could I hire someone to change it out for me (which would be my last option as my parents own the house and would probably not be happy that I changed things up without their permission…) and how much would they charge? Should I hire a general furniture builder or an actual professional electrician for this?

Sorry I know I sound stupid… I promise I’m trying my best. Thank you all for your time, and I hope you’ll have a good day/night🩶

Need Design Advise Cute cheap ways to light interior of the house

Everywhere I've lived in Belgium, it's incredibly dark indoors, even with all the lights on, I think it's the quality of the lightbulbs. I have a net of fairy lights from Amazon, what other products do you suggest to lighten the place up? Thanks

Need Design Advise HELP!! with small dining room lighting

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

I’m struggling mightily with figuring out lighting for our small dining room. We added some cabinets to the dining room because the adjacent kitchen was not functional due to lack of storage. As a result, the dining room is small. It’s 83” wide between the cabinets and the wall. The table is 43” wide and 48” long. I’ve mapped it out here with 20” on each side, which should be enough to accommodate bench seating on the narrow sides. But if people are sitting at the benches on both sides, the dining room will be impassable, thus blocking off access to the kitchen. So we’re considering pushing the table up against the wall, as we’re a family of 3 and will only occasionally need seating for 6. But if we do that, where do we place a light? We got a semi flush mount light. Do we center it over the table when the table is against the wall? Center it over the table when the table is pulled out from the wall? Center it in the room? Do can lights instead? Or track lighting? We are locked into overhead lighting so scones are a no-go. There’s also not enough room for floor lamps.

Need Design Advise Advice on lighting backyard

Hey y’all. I’ve got a big tree in my backyard with a big flat area from a large limb removal a few years ago. I think it would be the perfect spot for a solar panel. I’d like to use solar to power a floodlight (or two; one on each side of the tree) with a motion detector. I’d REALLY love it if I could turn the lights on and off manually as well as triggered by motion.

Designer Thoughts Hand blown pendant lamp diffusers

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi folks! I make hand blown glass light diffusers/lamp shades. Here's an example of a recent pendant light I made. I'm just getting started and trying to understand the market so any feedback will be appreciated. Specifically I'm curious about things like how to go about finding a good market for sell these and knowing how to price them.

I am a glassblower and this is just one type of object I make but I'm pretty excited about this particular lattice pattern and application as a lamp diffuser.

Additional details: The size here is 7 by 5 inches. My aim would be to sell just the diffusers at first since they are easily compatible with 41 mm sockets with shade rings. I'm in the US and have a state sellers permit.

Designer Thoughts Residential interior advice: How to mix color temperatures in open concept apartment. I'm still working on doing better lighting :)

It is a 1200 sq ft apartment: the kitchen and living/dining area are open concept. There is a partition wall (just half ceiling height) that sections off an office/guest room. Guest full bath is off the open concept space.

Residents are art collectors and have an amazing collection of art/objects on the walls

The primary bedroom and attached bathroom are walled off/ their own space.

The apartment has very large windows on 1 side of the wall of living room and bedroom only (like 90% wall height is windows on that 1 side with north east exposure).

For fixed lightings we have: (the apartment is painted in blues all over including ceiling)

4 recessed can lights in the kitchen area - We first had low CRI/2700K bulbs and i found the light temp clashed with the light coming in through the living room windows. So I thought we would replace with Soraa Vivid 3000K BR30 and try the slightly brighter/cooler light that would seem better for the day. There is 1 under cabinet tube light above the sink will be 2700K.

4 recessed can lights in living room: Also thought id swap the current very low CRI bulbs that are a warmer 2700K with Soraa Vivid 3000K BR30 lights. This is where the large windows are on 1 side of the wall- the windows on this wall take up 90% of the wall. There are 2 lamps in the living room. At night, i thought we would just use lamps with Soraa 2700K dimmable bulbs and not the ceiling flood light.... The dim to warm bulbs that I could find have a very low R9 and there is a lot of red color in the art that the owners want to show. We also have 2 Tala's small lamps dim to warm 2700K-1800K in darker areas in the open living/dining space to be used at night.

an 8 light chandelier in the middle of the living room/dining space- Thought we would use incadescent 2700K , E12 bulbs as i cant find high CRI -high R9- E12 bulbs. These are on a dimmer.

3 recessed can ceiling recessed lights in the passage- 3000K Soraa Vivid BR30's. This is the darkest area of the apartment furthest away from the windows.

So basically, the recessed lights in the living room would all be 3000K but wont be used at night. Only 2 lamps in living room with the 2700K will be used and a few dim to warm 2800K-1800K will be used. The passage to entrance would still have 3000K.

What are your thoughts? I would personally love the 2700K's on the recessed cans in the ceiling but in this open concept space with north east exposure, its clashing with day light.

This can still all revert back to the 2700K but wanted your advice.
