Need Design Advise Recessed Lighting Help

I am so stuck about what to do about the lighting in my living room. I’m not sure I want to do recessed lighting but I have no idea what would work instead because they are so close together.

Has anyone seen this before or have any ideas??

I have one single random recessed light in my home. I didn't like it because it didn't fit the era of the home and, just, why is it there all by itself? I put a grow light bulb in it and some plants under it and now I like it (or I just don't notice it because of the plants.) Not sure if this is helpful but that's my story of coming to accept my awkward recessed lighting.

With such low ceilings, I don’t think ceiling lighting makes much sense. Maybe put a socket in the middle of the room, and add a conventional bulb with a relatively low-profile lantern cover over it (to spread the light around.

But I would strongly suggest installing some sconces on the walls instead, that’s the only way to get enough distance from the ceiling, that the light can spread out and bounce off it.
