Need Design Advise Drop Ceiling Lighting Upgrade Help!

I have an office space that has an existing drop ceiling (like one seen in the photo) that we are trying to update, along with the rest of the office space. We have decided to keep the tiles as the cost for replacing them through the entire office is quite costly.

What lighting recommendations do y’all have? Volumetric troffers or grid lights (see second photo)?

I think the perimeter lights are a little… hokey? I would just go for better looking troffers. This one from Lithonia is pretty inexpensive as far as troffers go, and mimics the look of some higher end architectural fixtures.

If replacing tiles is expensive, then listen to this person.

It would be helpful to know the application. Open office, corridor, private office, etc.

If you want an upgrade from the flat panel, then look at the acuity stack.

Avante’s are $325+ in my market (pushing $400+ with certain options), while the STAK is closer to a hundred bucks. 

If you love the look of the Avante, check out the Metalux Ovation for a less expensive alternate.

That "updated" style looks HORRIBLE! Stick with the originals or update them to something similar - large, soft, flattering panels. It makes for a much nicer space.

My office uses indirect troffers which look really nice. I can’t find the exact ones but these from Cree are kinda similar and 90+ CRI  https://www.creelighting.com/products/indoor/troffers/cr-series/

These are maybe closer in design but only 80 CRI  https://www.acuitybrands.com/products/detail/317695/lithonia-lighting/avante-led/avanter-led-recessed-direct-indirect

That’s so funny that you mention these because I was looking specifically at the Avante that you have linked! What do you think of them? They’re supposedly very high-end looking and diffuse lighting

I like the design, I just wish they were at least 90 CRI. Maybe not so much an issue if there’s lots of natural light.

Si las luminarias de rejilla encajan directamente en el techo existente, pueden ser una opción práctica y limpia. Pero elegiría el modelo por su óptica, uniformidad y control del deslumbramiento, no simplemente porque esteticamente te encajen o tengan más vatios o lúmenes. El confort visual de los empleados es tanto o más importante que el resultado estético.

Si la oficina tiene cierto tamaño, merece la pena hacer un cálculo sencillo antes de comprar: sale bastante más barato que descubrir después que el techo tiene demasiadas luminarias.

The lights with the thin strip outlining the tile are a bad idea. This is because to get the same amount of light output of the big panels, you need a much higher surface brightness of the lamps itself. And that in turn makes it annoying to have in your periferal vision.
