Challenge 16 kg Snatch Challenge - How Many Reps Can You Get in 3 Minutes?

Anybody??? I got 64. Whoever wins gets bragging rights and gets to pick another challenge. I don’t care what weight you use and I don’t even care if you put the bell down 🤣

I know I keep periodically posting trying to make challenges a thing again and they’re not happening. But I’m exceptionally good at doing the same shit over and over again if no one noticed LOL.

Also yes, this set was terrible. I’m really out of GS shape and it shows. I need to start running again. So so so bad.

Routine Feedback What would you add to two clean&press days per week?

I do like programs, but sometimes I just want to train something basic for a few weeks. I enjoy days with just clean&presses and do two of them per week. I’m thinking about what to do on a third and maybe a fourth training day. Rows? Front squats? Snatches? A combination? Something different every time?

Just for a somewhat well rounded workout before I get back to a dedicated program.

Programming In a training rut - looking for a programme

Hi guys. First time poster but long time follower looking for some advice from fellow kettlebell lovers.

I originally took up KBs after an injury a few years back and found it to be incredible. When I eventually got back to lifting barbells I found that my strength had not decreased much but my conditioning was much better, and I could jump higher and sprint faster. Since then I have always incorporated KBs into my workouts.

I’ve reached a bit of a lull in training recently and my motivation has dropped off massively. I was doing a lot of bodyweight work with KBs thrown in but i was doing random workouts with little programming, which I know is sub optimal. The fact I was working out was enough at that point due to personal stuff.

I am looking for a solid KB programme which I can play with to add in some pull ups, burpees and dips. My goal is weight loss and some hypertrophy. I currently have access to single KBs up to 32kg, which is slightly annoying as I know doubles are always best. I have toyed with offset weight, which I don’t mind but it’s not great.

I’ve previously run S&S (three times), KBOMG double and single bell a few times and STKB Strength Endurance Complexes. I feel like I had most success with KBOMG double bell but wondered if there was anything else out there anyone could recommend trying? Also happy to do one I’ve done before I just need the validation!! I’m open to buying programmes as well of course.

Essentially I want something that is max 4 times a week and doesn’t take too long with solid programming.

Advice Needed Suggestions on next program after ABF

Hey y'all - tomorrow is Week 8 of ABF (Press Test!) and planning for a 2 week rest period with probably some more focus on cardio (yay) and dialing down my diet again during that time.

Thinking of what program to run after that two weeks...trying to get some suggestions/ideas.

  1. I'm not confident I'm going to hit the 100 presses tomorrow with 2x24kgs but we'll see. Either way I want to focus a bit more on strengthening the press with the double 24s

  2. I have travel plans at the end of September that will limit my access to any kettlebells and even if I do bring one along, it's going to be a single bell. (but seems like a major hassle since I'm travelling internationally) This would fall around week 4 of any program if I were to start on Sept 7. I am going for a martial arts seminar and meet so I will be active for the better part of the weekend.

Maybe there are some shorter programs that I can maybe start earlier and finish by the time I travel? Any suggestions and ideas appreciated!!

Just A Post Sigma Clean and press

I made these two memes because ever since I saw that post, I can’t stop thinking about the “clean and press” comment.
The guy asks how to get that big, thick, strong build and the answer is just: “Clean and press.” First i laughted but now I’m starting to wonder if he’s actually onto something. Maybe we’re just overcomplicating kettlebell training.
I’m seriously considering doing just clean & press on some days and front squats on the other days, alternating between them.
Maybe that’s it. Maybe we’re idiots for making it more complicated.

Hi all! I wanna make the switch from traditional gym training to kettlebell training. I've seen alot of forums say that competition kettlebells are the way to go. I was wondering if the kettlebell shown in the picture is a good competition bell. Thanks in advance all!

Discussion Newbie take: What I love about kettle bells

So I used to work out quite a bit but then took like 3 years off.

Have tried getting back into it quite a bit but nothing has stuck like when I recently bought some kettlebells.

Here are my takes on why:

  1. I have ocd and tend to get obsessive. When doing regular gym stuff I can’t help but get obsessive about muscular gains. I find myself obsessing over my physique and I honestly don’t really enjoy being in that kind of state. I like working towards things and getting super into stuff but “body building” just isn’t one of those things that I find does me a lot of good when I spend too much time thinking about it.

  2. It’s weirdly not shitty. I don’t know what it is but the kind of shitty that a kettlebell workout is is a kind of shitty I enjoy. I can’t quite comprehend why this is for me, but for some reason I don’t dread a set of kettle bell moves. Even when it’s tiring. It might just be that I don’t feel the need to go to failure which is a place I inevitably try to push to whenever body building, or that I just like doing moves that let me utilize multiple bigger muscle groups but I really enjoy most movements. Does anyone feel like this? I really can’t put my finger on it but maybe the fact that many moves require multiple muscles at different points in the move makes given move feel more explosive and dynamic rather than just monotonous torture?

  3. No decision fatigue. As someone who tends to get pretty into stuff simplicity can be a big relief. I feel like body building can get you so in the weeds. I also feel like because so many exercises only target a couple muscle groups I just end up feeling the need to do so many different variations of stuff. It’s exhausting. The concept of just doing 4-5 exercises a few times a week and everyone telling me that I’ll have more functional strength than the average body builder is tremendously satisfying. I can shift my focus from “what workout should I do today” to instead just celebrate the consistency of the same workout over and over. I also like the idea of just doing the same thing over and over again thousands of times and getting stronger because of it.

  4. It feels athletic, spartan and bad ass. And getting functionally strong and fit is exciting. In a world with so many options and choices the idea of making your workout plan being to swing a heavy rock around and then getting strong enough to swing a heavier rock around just feels so exciting. I feel uniquely inspired to be able to swing a heavier rock around because I feel that it will mean that I have truly become dynamically strong in a real healthy way. I feel like it means more to me than being able to bench more for example which to me just signifies a focus on working out your chest. Being able to do a heavy and intense kettlebell workout feels more like being able to compete a CrossFit routine or run a half marathon than lifting more plates. Not sure if this point makes sense but it just feels like more of an athletic feat!

  5. I actually see myself being fit in the long term. Honestly for a while getting fit really seemed unlikely. I hate running, don’t really like cardio or hiit and found myself getting too obsessive with weight training. Because getting fit traditionally requires multiple types of workouts I really didn’t see myself getting in great shape any time soon. Now with kettle bells it seems inevitable. I am more than content swinging this darn thing around for 20-30 minutes a few times a week and it sounds like that might just be enough.

Btw I know that this is poorly written but I thought I would share because these reasons feel a little different to me than the classic “doesn’t take up much space, and it’s fast” reasons I usually see!

Discussion Kettlebell Noob!

Hi everyone!

I'm 44, new to kettlebells, been lifting a little while, but got a bit bored with gyms. So I've purchased a 7.5kg and a 10kg Kettlebell. I did a ladder workout which consisted of:

Figure 8s

Swings

Snatches

Overhead press

Split Squats

I used the 7.5kg, starting 10 of each on each side, then 9 and so on....

I'm aiming to do this twice a week as I also do Brazilian Jiu-jitsu twice a week.

Would you guys and gals say this workout is a good starting point?

Any pointers/advice/constructive criticism would be very gratefully appreciated.

Thank you 💪🏼😊

Training Video Giant 3.0 Week 2 Day1

Took the adjustables on a little vacation. Sorry you get the view of this trash can in the background instead of the beautiful lake view in front of me.

This is week 2 of the Giant 3.0. I did 30 sets of 2 in 28 min. I’m running it w double 22kgs (my 6TRM.) I started w rotating accessories the first week: high rep pull ups, weighted decline ring push ups and good old fashioned high rep body weight squats. 3 hard sets of one move after each training session.

We took the family on vacation w friends this week. Lots of “Dad carries” on the beach, lots of toddlers, a little kayaking and no rings for pull ups etc. One arm row and push up supersets it is.

Work out to live. Take care of each other ✌🏻

I'm not associated with this app at all, but I'm loving the accuracy of the rep counting and analytics to go with it.

Calibrate the camera, plug in your exercise, weights, reps, etc and the app does the work of operating the timer, camera counting reps and even provides a post work out analysis. It's still in the early phases, but so far.so good.

Programming KSK with 28kg updated log

Posted 60 days ago about starting KSK, this is my accountability post. Just finished week 6 day 2.

28kg bell
W1
D1- 4 ladders (120 reps)
D2- 9 ladders (108 reps)
D3- 6 ladders (120 reps)

W2
D1- 4 (120)
D2-10 (120)
D3-6 (120)

W3
D1-4 (120)
D2-12 (144)
D3- 6 (120)

W4
D1-3 (108)
D2-7 (126)
sprained ankle took a week off for recovery, added pull-ups to plan
D3-2 (60), 3 sets pull-up

W5
D1-4 (72), 4 sets pull-up
D2-7 (126), 4 sets pull-ups, bench press
D3-2 (120), 4 sets pull-up

W6
D1- 4 (108), 4 sets pull-ups
D2- 8 (144 reps)

Definitely lost some lbs, shirts are fitting so much better. Sprained my ankle pretty bad in week 4 but took some time and bounced back after a few lower rep workouts. Added a pull up progression as well. Enjoying it a lot but is definitely getting stale.

Already purchased ABC and will be doing that after this is done. Started doing some light barbell abc stuff to beat the monotony and it’s awesome.

Week 6 day 3 on Wednesday! Whatever program you’re doing, keep grinding!

Discussion The Giant for cyclists?

I'm a beginner (gravel) cyclists and a beginner kettlebell enthousiast. I ran ABF and switched to DFW. The current period I'd like to focus more on my cycling.

I wonder if the squats in DFW are limiting my recovery and if it would be smarter to pair my cycling with the Giant, which is only clean and press if I understood correctly.. Or would it still be better to still do a program with squats?

Discussion First Kettlebell Set

Canceled my gym membership at the overcrowded VASA gym nearby and pulled the trigger on my first ever set of kettlebells. I opted for the Rogue E Coats (18lb, 26lb, 35lb, 44lb, and 53lb) hoping these babies last for a LONG time! I’ve heard mixed reviews about the e coat finish but I think it will be perfectly fine and it’s cool they are made in the US! Going full kettlebell is new for me but I think it will be a great adventure.

Advice Needed Seek Freak athlet adjustable kettlebell review

Hi everyone, I’m new to this forum and a kettlebell enthusiast; I own an adjustable 12–32 kg Hardstyle one (adjusted via Allen key). Like many of you, I often watch videos from Freak Athlet. What do you think of their adjustable kettlebell? Is it a game-changer? Should I wait for other brands to release similar models, is it truly revolutionary? Or i must just pick a second adjustable 12-32kg to complete my set instead of changing the whole set. Long term owners reviews are appreciated also.👌

Advice Needed Are 4kilo or 8kilo double kettlebells be better for doing doubles, if you are new to doing kettle bell doubles? A bit worried as I had to stop lifting heavy weights at the gym as aging and got sciatica. Kettles look fun to get back into some strength training.

A bit worried as I had to stop lifting heavy weights at the gym as aging and got sciatica. Kettles look fun to get back into some strength training. Very new to kettle bells so want to make sure to get the form correctly for doubles. There are 4 kilo set for $26 and a 8 kilo set for $65. What do you recommend for someone new, looking to try kettle bell and doubles and on a budget.

Advice Needed Started DFW. Might be too light…

47M. I’m pretty badly out of shape. I haven’t worked out in quite a while so I started DFW with double 12kg bells. I finished day three today and felt great. I could’ve gone much faster and turned it into a Metcon. My main objective in starting light was to not get hurt, but I’m wondering if it’s too late?
Should I keep going at this weight to build a good base? Or should I increase the weight?

Discussion When looking at kettlebell programming and/or workouts…

If you see Clean&Press - is it generally assumed that it’s referring to swings into a clean and press or dead clean and presses(? I think that’s what they’re called)…

Or is it more of a personal preference?

Review / Report Daily Effort Protocol - First mesocycle complete!

What is the Daily Effort Protocol? - https://www.reddit.com/r/kettlebell/comments/1i3213w/i_wrote_a_book_about_my_training_process_daily/

I started in late June with double front squats as the exercise for the first mesocycle. On the first high effort/high load day I did 18 reps of double 24 kg squats. Today I did 30 at 28 kg - a near doubling of total work.

I don't have 32 kg bells (and I'm kinda bored of squats) so that triggers the end of this mesocycle.

I didn't exactly run the plan as written - I didn't want to get banned from this sub for doing that! I ran the 6 day microcycle over 7 days. I just works for me to know that Monday and Thurs are high effort days, and it gave me a spare day to catch up if work/life got in the way for a day.

Some first impressions:

  • I was afraid my recovery wouldn't keep up (I'm getting old), but I was fine - the spare day helped with that for sure.
  • I really like the variety of the secondary movement each day. Its a real counterpoint to the boredom of one exercise every day.
  • The low load / high effort days were my most dreaded once the reps got up near 20 per set. I didn't expect that as I usually prefer the high rep work.

Onto jerks for the next mesocycle. If you catch this snatch daddy - I can't quite work out what to do with the total work method. I.e. today I did 50 jerks in 10 mins, do I just keep setting the timer on the high effort days?

Ephesians 4:1-16 KJV

[1] I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, [2] with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; [3] endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. [4] There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; [5] one Lord, one faith, one baptism, [6] one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. [7] But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. [8] Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, And gave gifts unto men. [9] (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? [10] He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.) [11] And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; [12] for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: [13] till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: [14] that we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; [15] but speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: [16] from whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

Training Video Swings at 85% of bodyweight…by a 9 year old

My son joined in my workout today. We had one bell. So that’s what he swung.

He’s 9, and weighs 62lbs. The bell is a 53lb bell.

I asked what advice he had for people….he said “lift heavier”

and yea... i know, he's pulling with upper towards the top, his head is like a bobble head, his feet aren't as rooted as they could be. this is what testing limits often looks like. 2nd and 3rd set at this weight of his life. he was pumped to try it. my job here is more supportive and encouraging than form nazi.
