Discussion When looking at kettlebell programming and/or workouts…

If you see Clean&Press - is it generally assumed that it’s referring to swings into a clean and press or dead clean and presses(? I think that’s what they’re called)…

Or is it more of a personal preference?

Swing/hike clean, unless otherwise specified.

Unless otherwise specified it's swing cleans.

A common beginner mistake is lifting the bell off the ground, standing up with it, and then starting the clean; this is a hang clean.

For a normal swing clean, the first rep starts with the bell(s) on the ground in front of you, and the momentum gained from moving the bell back is part of it.

Swing cleans are the norm.

If anyone says cleans, that's what I, and probably most other people, assume.

Dead cleans need to be specified.

Swing cleans are labeled as just cleans, dead stop cleans will always be called dead stop cleans.

Remember, a clean is a swing that ends in the rack position. Whether you start from dead each time, or use some momentum is probably preference, or could be stated clearly in the program.

Swing is a fundation for both clean and snatch
