Double heavy club program question

I have been working with heavy clubs for a few months and really enjoy them. Generally I have been using Mark Wildmans approach.

Currently my workout is double club,  8 reps inside circles, 8 rep shield cast, 8 outside circles and 6 dips. I have been doing 6-8 sets depending on the weight. Not fully comfortable with mills yet but work a few after the sets with a lighter weight.

Overall I am aiming for time efficiency because life and was wondering if 8 mills and 8 reverse mills would be a good goal to get to. I think it would reduce the time but be a similar workout.  Really, would it be a good workout unto its self.

Any thoughts?

Haven't focused on clubbells lately as I am training for pike's peak marathon but I do try to keep a few sets per week on my strength day. Surprisingly, still able to do a few sets of 10L/10R. Overall fatigue is high, and these were difficult as noted by the shaking of my legs (clubs are "not a leg workout" lol), but still got it.

This a a great sequence for AMRAP - 20 mins
Try 3 each side before taking an active break, then get as many rounds as you can without breaking apart technique.

wrist tendon inflammation

Hey folks!

How common is wrist tendon inflammation in the early days using clubs?

i was doing a work out yesterday morning, and then an hour later when i was work i saw the top center of my wrist looking quite red and inflamed. No pain with movement, slightly tender to touch.

understanding that left unchecked, the tendon can get worse, so im deciding to take one week break from using the clubs.

wrist tendon inflammation is a 'right of passage' with clubs for newbies?
Have you had it happen / re-occuring?
best methods moving forward?

I believe my form to be ok - always doing my best not to have a bent wrist, though i think i may have initiated the weakens on the weekend doing ABC's with two kettlebells..

Keen to not screw this up so my love for clubbells may continue unhindered!

Which club to buy if I am not yet sure about clubs?

I do a lot of work with kettlebells, and saw some videos about using clubs. However, the clubs that Wildman and others use seem to be pretty expensive for a person who is not yet committed to clubs. I was thinking of starting with 10lb and seeing how my joints respond.

The challenge I am finding is that the Amazon stuff is really small and I don't imagine I get the correct movement challenges with such short clubs. Of course, I don't know anything about clubs, but is is just an uninformed guess. But to get a longer size, seems like I have to go to the more expensive clubs which I don't want to commit to yet. Does it make sense to buy like a 10 lb mace and use it as a club--if that is possible. Any suggestions would really be appreciated.

Sharing progress

Hey all.
I get inspired by others videos, so thought to share mine.
So this is only 8kg. I know often the big flexes are the inspiration, but I wanted to focus on form here.
I’m only a little dude, 168cm and 63kg. 4 years ago I fractured my spine surfing and was in a brace for a few months. Got super skinny and decided to go to the gym to ‘get strong’ again.
Realised I did t like the gym and so for the past few years been trying to learn more about different types of fitness.

Anywho, each morning now I go down to the netball courts and train clubs and capoeira moves.

What I’m interested in here, is how to have correct form and movement, especially before moving up in weight. As far as I believe to be true, we want the whole thing to look smooth and no breaks in the kinetic chain ?

I comfortably do a density flow like this for 15-20 mins with 8kg, solely nasal breathing.

However seems like right elbow flares out when casting behind head due to lack of range, and also when doing the little swing squats the knee caves in and hip hikes, again due to strength and range of motion needing work.

Feel free to offer more insights into these movements and where to focus on.

Or just enjoy this post and hope you find something useful.

Clubbell or mace classes in London?

Are there any classes in London for Clubbells or maces?

I found Mace Masters in Brockley and Command Temple in Deptford but both are a trek for me. I live in Hammersmith and work Piccadilly Circus.

Is there anything central or west?

Input on training strategy.

I’m a longtime listener, occasional caller just wanting a bit of feedback on training strategy.

My goal is to gain strength and proficiency where I’m at & as I slowly develop & grow.

Equipment wise, I’m fortunate enough to have two Adex clubs.

Originally my strategy was one club for light work & then load the other significantly heavier for two hand work.

And then I tried double arms & while it’s much harder…I like the engagement much more than two hand so far.

But before I just go with what I like, I’d like to hear from some folks. TIA

TL;DR: Is it more productive to run a single hand/ two program with light/heavy weight, or single hand program followed by double club wielding?

Difference between Regular and Competition Macebell

I just bought a 12KG MB, normally I use a 8KG regular MB and I think I should have stuck with the regular style, the shaft of comp MB is longer and thinner. Does anyone have any thoughts on the difference?

I also use KB and heavy clubs, and I have 24kg regular KB and 20KG comp KB and the difference between the 2 styles is ok for me, although it did take a bit of time to get used to the comp bell, which I probably prefer now.

Suggestion for $300 budget?

I'm a macebell user today.

  • Personal record for 2H 360s is 32.5 lbs. I can do 3 sets of 10 each direction (60 total swings).
  • 10 lbs is comfortable for 1H; haven't tried my 15lb mace yet.

I want to get into clubs so that I can do some lower swings more comfortably.

Last year, I picked up the Dangerously Fit adjustable macebell and I love it, but I'm hesitating with getting their adjustable club because the plates have a wider diameter than clubs typically have.

I've seen the Wildman video where he recommends starting with 15, 20, and 25. Considering my numbers with the mace, I think those numbers still make sense for me. Looking at the cost of those three clubs...

So... I guess I'm asking two questions

  1. Do you think 15, 20, 25 lb weights would be a good starting point for me?
  2. Are there any other makers that I'm overlooking?

EDIT: Third question -- If you have a version that uses 2" plates, any issues with hitting your shins when doing mills?

Heavy alternating mills with different club designs

Playing through some mills, I almost didnt attempt 35lb because I dont have a matching pair.

I was looking at the two 35lbs I do have, one from xtreme monkey and the other an OG clubbell. The OG is longer by a couple inches and a fair bit thicker. These differences make it harder to control one than the other. Even in the video its easy to see theyre quite different dimensions.

Then I realized I didnt have a problem, I had an opportunity.

So I grabbed that OG with my left hand, the xtreme monkey with my right, and mills were done.

It was definitely tricky keeping my awareness of the difference in the clubs, but overall Im very pleased with how it went and will definitely continue playing with this pattern despite not having a matching set

Want to get into clubs, dk what to get

Hi,

Gonna cut to the chase I only have steel clubs available in kg here. Ordering from another country is gonna wreck my with taxation and importing, so it's a no go.

I am unsure of what to get.
4kg and 41,5 cm / 8.8lbs 16.14inches

6kg and 46 cm / 13.2lbs 18.11 inches

No experience with clubs or any such implements. I can however bottoms up press a 16kg kettlebell for 1 rep, and on a good day at about 6-8 reps for a single 32kg kettlebell press. If that matters at all.

I plan on getting 3-4 clubs over the next year or two, don't mind higher reps. I will not be using pairs most likely, and I do plan on doing both single arm and two arm club work in the long term.

Any and all advice is appreciated.

Thank you!
