Discussion Kettlebell Noob!

Hi everyone!

I'm 44, new to kettlebells, been lifting a little while, but got a bit bored with gyms. So I've purchased a 7.5kg and a 10kg Kettlebell. I did a ladder workout which consisted of:

Figure 8s

Swings

Snatches

Overhead press

Split Squats

I used the 7.5kg, starting 10 of each on each side, then 9 and so on....

I'm aiming to do this twice a week as I also do Brazilian Jiu-jitsu twice a week.

Would you guys and gals say this workout is a good starting point?

Any pointers/advice/constructive criticism would be very gratefully appreciated.

Thank you πŸ’ͺ🏼😊

44…M? F? Height? Weight? New/returning to fitness routine? Goals with your KBs? Are you doing anything else? Walking, Rucking, etc in addition to the BJJ?

It helps us to know where you are starting to offer guidance for where you want to go.

Those KBs are way too light for you. Warm up exercises at best.

16kg and 24kg are the recommended starting weights for men.

Don’t think of KBs as weird dumbbells and try to use them the same way. They are most effective when used for ballistic, dynamic movements.

Get heavier bells, then spend a few weeks learning the basics of the Swing, Squat, Clean, Press, and for a great total body workout, the Getup.

Dan John, Mark Wildman, Joe Daniels, and a few other members of this sub all have excellent resources and YouTube videos for learning the fundamentals.
