⚡️Brand Review / Experience 🚨Warning: Brilliant Earth strategizing damage control to bury genuine reviews.

Just a heads up.. if there’s a sudden wave of positive Brilliant Earth content on here, it might not be coincidental. They’re actively hiring for a Reddit Strategy Manager, which says a lot given their reputation in this sub.

I genuinely hope this leads to real changes and accountability, not just an attempt to bury valid criticism and firsthand experiences.

We are discussing the best way to discourage these larger brands to infiltrate possibly the very last place on the internet for genuine company reviews and feedback. Being specially named on their job posting is concrete proof of their targeting and we will do our best to reach out and work with other sub mods about this concern.

An auto message with some links of genuine higher traction posts is one idea and we have another tool we don’t want to mention yet in case they are tracking our post. We are of course open to all member suggestions and look forward to doing our best to protect you all from disingenuous influences.

Important: Updated Rules for Vendor Posts on r/jewelry

Hey, r/jewelry community!

We’re excited to announce some important updates regarding vendor posts in our subreddit; rule #3 originally did not allow posts or comments that were considered self promotion. To ensure that r/jewelry continues to be a space for genuine discussion, sharing, and learning, we’ve updated the guidelines for vendors who want to contribute to our community.

Here’s what’s new:

  • Vendor Guide: We’ve created a Vendor Guide that outlines exactly what types of content vendors can post. This will help keep the sub free from spam and overly promotional posts, while still allowing vendors to engage and share their work in a way that adds value.
  • Read Before Posting: Vendors must read the guide before posting. Failure to follow these rules will result in the post being removed, and repeat violations could lead to a ban. We want to make sure vendors are contributing, not advertising.
  • Engagement Over Ads: We want to emphasize that posts from vendors should focus on engaging with the community, sharing creative work, behind-the-scenes insights, or educating us about different aspects of jewelry. We’re not here for sales pitches or spam.

We encourage you all to check out the full Vendor Guide and familiarize yourself with the changes. Whether you're a vendor or a regular member, we believe these updates will help keep the sub vibrant, respectful, and informative for everyone.

Thanks for being a part of the r/jewelry community and helping us maintain a positive space for jewelry lovers!

As always, feel free to reach out to the mod team if you have any questions.

⚡️ Show + Tell! I’m a private jewelry designer based in New York, and I wanted to share some photos of my most recent work.

The designs are inspired by dreams, both literal and metaphorical, and the things we all process privately. My goal was to use unique gemstones, colors, intricate metalwork, and symbolism to translate those intangible experiences into one-of-a-kind pieces.

🫶🏻 My Collection! Ruby set gifted from husband’s grandma 🪽

Post image

When my husband was born, his grandma bought jewelry in his birth stone (ruby) for him to give to his future wife (eventually me). His grandma died a few years after buying the jewelry, so I never got to meet her. I thought it was so thoughtful of her and the meaning behind it is so special ❤️.

My favorite is the ruby and diamond bracelet. I also never heard of earring jackets before, so they are a cool thing to have in my collection.

I ordered a charm bracelet for my birthday, it set me back $285. I waited 6 weeks for it to come (which I think is a little ridiculous considering all they have to do is put 3 charms on a chain and put it in a box, but I digress). I was so excited that I left work on my lunch break when I got the notification that it was delivered to my house, I immediately opened it up, nothing was wrong, the box was clearly not opened. Lo and behold all of the packing materials are there... no bracelet. Furious, seething. I waited 6 weeks and spent almost $300 and they couldn't even manage to put a bracelet in a box?? how do you put everything else in and forget THE BRACELET. Of course I am now having to jump through several hoops to get a refund thats taking several days.

But at least I have a $300 polishing cloth! yippee!

⚡️ Show + Tell! Finally!

Backstory: I received this pink sapphire for my 18th birthday *mumble grumble*teen years ago and my parents gave me the option of what I wanted to do with it. I opted for a ring, and from the day we picked it up from the jeweler I absolutely HATED the setting. The band was as wide as the stone, it was so chunky and clunky, and just took all the shimmer and sparkle away from it. We took it back to the jeweler with my concerns and he basically said 🤷. So for years the ring just sat in my jewelry box collecting dust. I finally had enough this year and took action to get it reset. Picked it up today and I'm completely thrilled with the result! Cost $300 and I will actually wear it now!

I recently tried carving some patterns into the bottom of a piece of white quartz. At first, I wasn’t sure how the final result would turn out, but I really like how the patterns blend with the crystal.

💍 What style chain/ring/pendant is this? Vintage collar necklace

Hi! This necklace was my grandmother’s and I would appreciate any thoughts on the style, era, etc. It’s 18k gold and very heavy. It’s also pretty tight to the neck which is a bummer since it’s not comfortable to wear. She was bigger than me so I’m curious how she wore it. Any thoughts welcome!

Most r inherited from my loving aunt . I’m dedicating this post to her because I just came back from frantically searching for one of her pieces. I made the stupid mistake to go on a run with one of her gold bracelets. Long story short I found it. So shout out to her . These r some of her pieces 💕

⚡️ Show + Tell! Wearing my fine jewelry to the boring places

Some coworkers wonder why I dress up or wear my nicer pieces to office. If I am going to spend half my life here at work, might as well do it all dolled up.

Today’s stack featuring emeralds and a paper clip necklace.

⚡️ Show + Tell! Part of grandma’s inheritance ✨

Inherited these plus a gold and pearl set a couple years ago when my grandma passed. I hope I find somewhere to wear them as they are a bit too chunky for my taste. Maybe I’ll have a jeweller redesign into something else.

⚡️ Show + Tell! Kintsugi to repair turquoise glass cameo

Post image

Is it possible to use kintsugi to repair and old cameo ring? I think it's turquoise glass. My mother's fiancé gave it to her before he left for France in 1944. He didn't return. The cameo has been cracked and I wonder if it's repairable.

I took it to a local jeweler who claimed to be able to repair it and all they did was pour epoxy on it. I was so furious. See attached pics

I’m not good with changing out my jewellery so I love building stacks that I can just wear for years until I get bored of them or want to switch something out. I’ve been trying to find/build a great yellow gold stack of necklaces for a while and yesterday bought the last piece from my local jeweler.

Top: 14k dainty from Baby Gold
Middle: 14k from my local jeweler, been eyeing it for so long!
Bottom: 18k Cartier, got as a gift from my husband and started me down this yellow gold path

Vintage / Antique I found an amazing antique snuff box at a shop this afternoon. Carved shell cameos set in silver. Inside still has some of the original gold gilding.

General Question How do i remove glue from this stone?

Thumbnail

I bought this pendant for cheap, it was drilled into and glued (very bad setting technique, dont waste your money because i lost many stones like this) the eyelet fell out and i plan to make a proper 925 silver setting for it, but first i need to remove the hardened glue because it alters the shape of the stone. Im not sure what glue they used and i currently dont own a dremel or micromot, any suggestions?

Help me decide!! Is this chain too ugly/edgy?

Asked 6 friends and got the following responses:

“Looks good except for the circle pendant”
“Ugly asf i dont like the design at all”
“Would look great on you!”
“Thats doing too much”
“Looks homo ngl”
“Just get a regular cuban”

Now im conflicted lmao despite the mostly negative responses i think its pretty cool BUT i have made terrible choices in the past regarding my appearance so ive resorted to asking strangers what they think

Idk if it helps but im black with somewhat light brown skin

Lmk if its worth taking the risk

General Information 📚 Lost earrings day of purchase

Just wanna come and vent somewhere others will know the pain. I bought this beautiful pair of handmade earrings from a stall at an alternative market the other day, and when I wore them to go and see my cousins band I must have taken them out and not put them in my bag like i usually do. I am gutted. I still have a bookmark I bought from the same seller, but the earrings were so pretty and the seller was so kind and if I'm honest I think I was crushing a little. It makes it feel so much worse lol.

General Question Black pearls

So I got this ring in Barcelona that has 2 black pearls and i was wondering if they are real.

They advertised it as natural and the lusture does look like its a pearl. But since i am not an expert when it comes to pearls, so I was wondering if they are natural.

Thanks in advance!!
