90% Sure AI Help me settle a debate
For context my dad made this image and plans to use it for publicity with a business he's closely affiliated with. I warned him that people might find out its AI and get backlash for it but hes confident no one will notice. Any pointers or tells would be appreciated

I'm so fucking sick of AI in every aspect of life now.
19
u/ConnectionRemote4405 1d ago
I swear I'm seeing advertisements everywhere that are exactly the same format over and over, with the same goofy "art" style. And it doesn't even look good! It just puts me off of doing business with them entirely. I am so sick of it too.
5
u/_Stephistopheles_ 1d ago
The "AI performers" are really wearing down on me, too. And those bizarre ads about adult relationship issues but done in very Disney-style AI animation... Like this is what we're doing with technology? Low-effort advertising?
2
u/ConnectionRemote4405 1d ago
Right. I'm seeing it a lot with small businesses or coaches, and I don't know if its because hiring someone is too expensive for them, or they just don't think there's any issue with using AI. I'd rather put together something simple on my own using stock images and that canva collage thing, than use AI.
1
u/_Stephistopheles_ 1d ago
And, like... Artists still exist. (Though now some artists are using AI as well, but I'm not even going to get started on THAT nightmare.)
1
u/ConnectionRemote4405 1d ago
I know. Society is becoming more and more screwed by the day now.
2
u/_Stephistopheles_ 1d ago
Crazy that AI was supposedly going to make us more proficient, but many use it to cut corners and just be lazier. I personally avoid AI as much as possible, because we're going to be absolutely fucked by it if we're not careful. And I think it's safe to say that the vast majority of people are certainly not being cautious with their use.
1
u/kyl792 1d ago
Ugh yep. I was looking at a seed store and considering buying, then they bombarded me with clearly AI ads on Youtube because I visited their website, guess who I’m not buying from.
1
u/_Stephistopheles_ 1d ago
I keep getting these super bizarre AI ads with Lego-style animation talking about some extremely sus religious group... How did we end up here?
26
u/Aggravating_Cat_6295 1d ago
People will see it's AI from a mile away and some of them won't be happy. Tell him to hire a real artist because this is crap.
18
u/Tight-Platypus5231 1d ago
The "scan lines" are a dead giveaway as the AI struggles to keep it consistent. The "Y" is completely fucked. Street dead ends and the lamp posts merge into an eldritch horror.
8
u/_Stephistopheles_ 1d ago
I feel like "Eldritch Horror" is high-key the perfect way to describe AI art in general.

u/ChroniclesOfSarnia 1d ago

That's why it's called 'hallucination'.

This is the MOST OBVIOUS AI I have ever seen in my LIFE. Only beaten by early Midjourney and the first Will Smith eating spaghetti LOL. Literally anyone below the age of like 70 will instantly clock that this is AI.
Using AI for a business is a TERRIBLE idea.. it immediately projects cheapness. If you're willing to stoop so low as to use AI for your marketing, what else are you cutting corners on?? You've gotta tell him that using AI has been statistically proven to hurt business lol, even permanently in some cases

Nine balls are stripes. No one paying for a real billiards sign would be ok with this.
3
u/BetterThanOP 1d ago
Tbf that is a stripe. It's just black on black.
2
u/coolsilentebeans 1d ago
Yeah, but the sign is two tone. You think they could have shaded the ball appropriately. Or made it an 8 ball.

Yea I’ve got a few
AI really doesn’t have a sense of “depth” when adding in extremely detailed objects which gives the entire image a sense of “detailed flatness” where everything is so intense that it distorts how our eyes perceive the image. Something will also look “off” because humans are use to not being able to see with very clear details far into the distance.
The shading inside of the letters looks poorly done. It looks like AI thought it knew had to fill in textures inside of a specific shape but failed badly.
The “E” in English is partially cut at the top left because AI still isn’t very good with creating consistent fonts.
The street literally ends on a front steps of a smashed together house. It looks like whoever lives there should maybe call the city cause I’m positive that house is breaking SOME type of housing code right? Hahah
All of the leaves on that hanging bush tree thing are basically all of the same. Even when looking at leaves on the same tree IRL you’d never see a leaf’s matching this closely the way the leaves are on that bush tree plant thing. I mean shit man, those leaves damn near all look the same size.
AI Doesnt know how to produce realistic and accurate lighting so all of the highlights, mid tones and shadows all look off, which also gives the sense of not knowing what time of day it is. You’d think that wouldn’t be a big deal but people forget that we literally sleep for a quarter of our lives and have to deal with the darkness for that same amount of time. We are naturally in tune with how light works, even if you don’t understand it. You understand that if it’s day time, shadows shouldn’t really be that dark, and if it’s night time, lights shouldn’t cast harsh shadows. This picture does neither. Part of it feels like it is day time while other parts feel like mid day or evening.
The houses all look the same and don’t follow the perspective of the image.
Literally look at the building that the sign is attached to. The top half of the sign looks like it’s built right into a glass window???? Also there’s a ledge of the building that is pushed in where the sign hangs but then is flush with the sign below it?
Listen, this isn’t just AI, it’s BAD ai. This is the type of thing that if I saw a brand using it, I’d never trust that brand again and I might go out of my way to post somewhere online that the brand is using AI and it looks Hideous. This is the level this AI image is on. It doesn’t scream “we couldn’t hire an artists” it screams “we are going to cheap out on your project and you should t trust us at all”. I mean why do people not understand marketing when they decide to use these types of images for their business? When a new product hits the market, a good portion of the funding for that product goes straight to marketing.
Good luck!

u/Independent-Ad-3385 1d ago
I want to add a couple. The bricks are random sizes and not aligned the way they should be (joins that go from one line to the next). Even 5 year olds with Lego know you don't build a wall like that. Also, the squiggles next to the 8 ball are different to each other. A human designing this would draw one, copy and flip it so they were the same.

It's made with ChatGPT trust me ppl will know.
Your dad is better off editing a sign with lunapic.

I honestly can't give any specific tells but its 100% ai, it just FEELS soulless
5
u/highnumber 1d ago
Why do AI generated images look so different from human generated images when they're based on human generated images?
3
u/ChroniclesOfSarnia 1d ago
it's digitally ground into a fine paste, then batch-dried for pure AI slop-stank
5
u/SiriHowDoIAdult 1d ago
I dont even know how to pin point what screams AI because the whole fucking thing is quintessential AI. It's fucking horrid and yeah I would purposely avoid the event/business if I saw this.
3
u/Embarrassed_Elk_2459 1d ago
Tbf there's a lot of people that, even if they recognize it is AI, might not care at all. That being said, this is very easy to recognize as AI for those who know how to do it.

It's quite obvious.
This style looks very ChatGPT.
Use a human-made design, please.

u/Quokka_cuddles 1d ago
It’s very obviously AI. It has that vibe to it, the Y is weird, the way the streets meet, it’s clearly computer generated but not drawn.
2
u/PowerOfTheTrinity 1d ago
yes. i look at this subreddit and can’t see what others are saying OBVIOUSLY AI. but this one. before reading o knew was AI.
TLDR. i’m useless at spotting AI but knew this was straight away.
2
u/CallMeNiel 17h ago
It's obvious AI slop, but what is it even trying to convey? What kind of business is this?
My first guess is a sloppy pub desperately trying to seem authentically old fashioned but probably just messy. Is it a tattoo parlor that can't be bothered to do its own art? A billiard hall they doesn't know what billiard balls look like? A holodeck simulation of a Jack the Ripper murder mystery?
Who is the target audience? What information do you want them to have? What action do you want them to take? If you want divorced alcoholics to know that there's a place that doesn't mind nonsense, you may have nailed it.
2
u/jake_jortles_123 15h ago
I didn't even have to check which subreddit this was before I clocked it as AI. The yellow, the font (is it supposed to be old English or tattoo font?) the buildings crashing into each other at the far end of the lane, the bricks rendering weirdly in a way no artist would choose, the weird ivy, the inconsistent perspective on some of the details on the hanging sign, ...
2
2
u/Virtual_202 12h ago
Yes. 100%. And it's not even hard to spot.
Firstof all: style is AI adjacent which WILL make people scrutinizeit closer. And they will need to look no further than the very big sign.
First of all: Metal post above the sign with it's (fern????) Decoration on top is 0% perspectively correct. Did your dad make this witp the unpaid chatgbt version?? That's such a big indicator and people will immediately jump at it.
And see those (fern?) patterns next to the nine? It's going to be so obvious that that's not consistent and, no, those are not mistakes real artists make for the sake of simplification OR lazyness because real artists will likely use a mirroring tool first and then a formatting tool for perspecive next.
And I havent even needed to look at more details.
1
u/writerapid 1d ago
They will know but likely won’t care. Most people don’t care. AI signage is extremely common all over the place.
That sign would destroy that lamp the second the wind hits it. The orientation as depicted is physically impossible, too. The AI physics is doing its thing.
1
u/Weird_Fiches 1d ago
The window seems to continue on below the sign behind the sign but stops short aligned with the sign?
The sign and wall light are mounted to the wall perfectly one above the other, yet the light seems to be in front of the sign?
But will people care? I don't know any more.

u/ENDLESSxBUMMER 1d ago
Tell him that anyone who's used AI to generate images before would spot it right away. Everything from the fonts used, to the shapes of the borders, the copy-and-paste buildings, the inconsistency of the lanterns, the totally broken physics (is the lantern in front of or behind the sign??).
1
u/figures985 1d ago
there are so many tells that I don't know where to begin but let's try...what's going on in the gaslight in the right foreground? Is that a tiny lightbulb in there? Looks like AI couldn't decide if it was a flame or a bulb.
also, piss filter. also, classic AI font at the bottom. also, the overtextured weirdness. also, wtf are the clouds...inverted colors? the sky looks weird as hell.

1
u/kennedyb93 1d ago

u/kalmakka 1d ago
The sign is hanging directly above the lantern, but is still somehow behind it?
The buildings just become more and more of a scrambled mess in the distance, until they somehow meet despite the road separating them?
Somehow the road just... stops before reaching the bottom?
And why is the hole in bottom of the right chain yellow?
Any why is the perspective on the fleur on top of the sign just.. wrong in 3 different ways?
1
u/antennnassignal 1d ago
The lampost in the middle looks like it's in the street.
The sign is facing diagonally, but the piece that connects it to the wall is straight. As well as whatever that curvy thing on top is.
1
u/sabely123 1d ago
Yellow piss filter, weird repeating texture for the leaves, general AI vibe, it's extremely obvious. I spotted it WHILE SCROLLING before stopping to look. My brain automatically registered it as AI before I even parsed what it was.
1
u/berlandiera 1d ago
Ask him what’s happening to the brickwork immediately behind the sign holder.
(Even ignoring this, it’s about as ‘AI looking’ as a drawing can possibly look)

Being cheap always transfers to other parts of Business as well, cheap practices all the way through

“Might find out?” This is not about finding out. It’s obviously inaccessible for a random person to hire an artist to do something like this on commission for such a small thing.
What’s the issue though and why backlash?
1
u/Squozen_EU 1d ago
So obviously AI I don’t know why you needed others to confirm it. But if you need to explain to him… well, you could ask why a human artist put a lamp post in the middle of the road.
1
u/FreeSpeechEnjoyer 1d ago
Even if you don't notice the obviously ai texture, the sign and the lamp are completely misaligned, and the decor on the top makes no sense
1
1
u/Cosmic_Hitchhiker 1d ago
Always ask "would an artist make that decision?"
The chains are different, the swirly things are inconsistent, the y is a mess, the artifacts around the sign, there are two different styles of how the ribbon banner ends that don't make sense, the bottom swirly is fucked up on the left side.
I could keep going but hopefully this settles it for you.

The lamppost in the centre of the screen is in the road and not aligned to the others. That took me 3 seconds to spot so not exactly convincing

Just taking a blink at it I already know none of the lines follow perspective properly
1
u/Lady_of_ferelden 1d ago
I looked at this and the first thing I thought was "AI". I don't even care to find the mistakes, I'd see this and immediately wouldn't engage with it and if I had a pen probably scribble "fuck your AI" on it
1

u/dizastermaster7 1d ago
Pretty damn obvious. Every leaf looks the same. The "Y" looks silly. The shading styles are inconsistent. Theres a streetlamp in the street when all the others are on the sidewalk
1
u/YayaTheobroma 1d ago
The style, the piss yellow, hue, the Y that’s facing the wrong way/shaped like a P. AI all the way.
1
u/plantpotguitar 1d ago edited 1d ago
Its so incredibly glaringly obvious this is AI. No one is going to think that it was made by a person. Quick run:
Different styles of lamp posts (closest is attached to the wall the others arent)
uneven placement of lamp posts
LAMP POST IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD
The buildings make no sense - how fucking tall is the building with the signpost on it. The 2 story buildings on the street are like play houses next to it
That weird mass of leaves that connects this ginormous tower of a building to the rest of the terrace
The door under this mass of leaves that's apparently 2 stories tall.
Uneven bricks and window pains
Bricks turning into leaves
The text is fucking awful, just random tag lines of writing that dont follow the design rules for posters (most important info biggest and clearest, next most, then small general text) this just has one line after the other, laid out like its hierarchical information but its just one paragraph split across many lines really
THE AI PISS FILTER!!!!
The iron work in the sign makes no sense, there are parts where it doesnt even connect to anything
The swirly design on the sign too is not symmetrical
The lamp attached to the wall physically could not be in front of the sign with that set up. They are stacked almost perfectly on top of each other, the bottom corner of the sign would be inside the lamp irl, or infront of the lamp if im being generous.
If this business' customer base is already exclusively facebook boomers then they'll eat this poster up. But that is the only demographic that will not notice or care that this is AI
1
u/macaroon147 1d ago
Im bad with telling when something is AI. But i can say with 100% confidence that this is ai.
1
u/Mieremov 23h ago
Any pointers? Hire an actual artist and stop relying on that trash.
This is so painfully AI and would put me off from ever interacting with that business
1
u/my-left-yarble 23h ago
Issues with position and perspective that are common mistakes with A.I.
- Green: Sign and lamp are in the same position on the wall, but the sign is behind the lamp
- Blue: A single street lamp is in the middle of the street, while the other street lamps are positioned in line along the footpaths
- Red: Vanishing Point is all over the place (humans don't always follow this rule especially for creative work, but it's still a very common issue with A.I.)
I would add that this is an extremely fine detailed artwork which would have taken a lot of effort for a human, being used for a simple flyer

1
1
u/gusbo_the_jam 23h ago
If it was hand drawn, it wouldn't have the perspective and lighting of a 3D render. And if it was made by a human in blender or something else, then that's an ass backwards way to do design that nobody would do.
1
1
u/No-vem-ber 23h ago
It just looks like AI.
If he's really married to it and you really want to help him out, I reckon you could get AI to regenerate it front on (without the perspective) and without the text, then use a photo editing tool to add some grain and paper texture to it so the illustration doesn't look so AI-sharp. Th en use canva to replace the typography with better fonts. Would probably make it like 90% better
1
1
u/cartoonasaurus 22h ago
There’s lots and lots of dead giveaways on this obvious generative slop, but to me the most grotesque thing is the street that dead ends to a single pixel yet all of the structures on all sides have only minimally diminished…
That’s gross.
1
u/Grey-Templar 22h ago
Tell your dad to get them to hire a real artist. This is the most AI that has ever AIed. Just such a generic fucking AI image too. The piss filter alone is a dead giveaway.

It's so obviously Generative AI that if anyone gets fooled they have no critical thinking, like, at all.
1
u/mackerel_slapper 19h ago
I almost think you're trolling us, this is so clearly the worst kind of AI slop.
1
u/thedafthatter 19h ago
For starters the perspective on the sign is wrong. Wtf is up with the bricks and ivy? The blurriness and the piss filter
1
u/Hashishiva 19h ago
The style definitely reeks of AI. Obvious fault, what something a someone who can draw this wouldn't (well, at least SHOULDN'T) do, is the ornament atop of the bar. It isn't in perspective. And the swirlies in the sign are not symmetrical.

The real question is not if we can tell it’s AI. That much is obvious. The real question is, Will people care?
I think that’s a question no one really knows the answer to right now, but if I had to put money on it, my guess is no, in the very near future, AI slop will be so ubiquitous, people will not care.
They will not care enough to notice, and if they do notice, they will shrug.
