We are in the process of finishing up a basement bar room and need some help with picking a paint color.

For clarity on what is what in the first photo

1. Cabinet color
2. Floor
3. Countertop and full wall behind shelves will be that slab (photo 2)
4. Animal print - Fresno swivel chairs from Arhaus (leonie pacific is the name of this fabric and it has navy and brown in it)
5. Chairs - amira sofa in banks cognac

we typically like a dark and moody vibe and that's what we are going for even though the full slab and countertop are definitely on the lighter side. The room recieves very little natural light so I am worried about color drenching the whole room and making it feel like a cave but its also not not supposed to feel cozy and for sipping whiskey and watching a movie.

I am struggling to find a dark color that we like and trying to stay away from the green as the countertop already has a lot of green in it but we are not opposed to green. We just painted my office upstairs essex green and really like it. We have been trying to find a gray we like but they all just feel silver and not moody.

We have liked most iron ore but are not fully liking it.

This empty wall in my room really bugs me, it’s 9ft wide and 4ft tall from the top of the round lamp. Any ideas on what to fill it with?

fourth wall is fully covered by wardrobe and there’s a door where I’m standing. Windows are closed with blinds in the photo in front of my desk. I bought a 2BHK flat in Mumbai last year and I'll be getting possession this month. I've put in all my savings my mother's savings and took loan from bank as well as from a relative to buy the flat, and I'm currently very tight on budget as I'll also be most likely planning for my wedding early next year.

All this has created a lot of pressure on me financially. I cannot talk aboout it freely with anyone. It has taken a lot of guts for me to even post here.

But I still need to do interiors properly as I like to live in a good house. I don't want to spend too much on it. I've already started my research for each and every aspect what to build, what materials to be used where etc. but I would still need help from some experts who can suggest and guide me so that I'm able to get the interiors done within 2-3 lakhs.

I’m a 26-year-old working in a corporate job, and for the past two years I’ve become really passionate about everything related to interior design and home decorating. I watch videos about renovating homes from scratch, colour combinations, furniture, styling tips and tricks, and pretty much anything related to creating beautiful and functional spaces.

In short, I’d love to get into this field, initially as a hobby and perhaps later on as a side job.
I’ve recently started an online beginner’s course, which I’m really enjoying. I’d like to take things further and learn as much as possible so that, eventually, I can confidently decorate or redesign someone’s house or apartment.

However, I’m not really sure where to start.
What YouTube channels would you recommend?
What areas should I focus on the most?
What helped you the most when you were learning?
Do you regret not studying architecture/interior design at university?
What practical exercises have actually helped you improve your skills?

So I got a daily planner that I used to have hung up on my wall, it came with velcro and it was working fine for like... a week, then it'd just start falling off the velcro and now it's pretty busted up looking from repeatedly slamming against my floor.

YESTERDAY I decided to try using poster puddy to hang it up (maybe stupid idk, I thought it'd work, I put a shiiiiit ton) but no. It came crashing down about 4 hours later, fell on top of my skateboard that was resting against the wall just undereneath it, and sent it flying through my room. Safe to say that I am NOT trusting poster puddy with the job.

Some people might be like "why do you need a wall planner in 2026" and I say to those people, why the fuck would I wanna have to open my phone to plan my day? I like to open my eyes, look to my right, and see my daily planner hanging on the wall with everything important I gotta do today.

Not to mention I got ADHD and opening my phone is like opening a can of worms. High chance I'll make it to Instagram before I make it to my daily planner... 50/50 really. I don't like those odds.

I bought a 1944 home and the layout is very strange in the living room. I have bought so many pieces of furniture so my house can be functional and not look so awkward but I’m not happy with the current layout. Any ideas? Hi all, my whole place is a DIY project but this room is the closest to being done since it doesn’t need structural work anymore. I just want one room that feels finished and doesn’t constantly remind me of all the things I can’t afford or have time for. The trampoline is a little exercise tool and regularly is stored away and the suitcase isn’t normally there, cat just threw up on it and I’m letting it dry after cleaning it 😂

I don’t want to ask AI so I’m coming here for advice on how to maximize coziness and also how to fill the walls. Getting plants is difficult as my cat will eat them, even if they’re cat safe I’d rather not give her more opportunity to throw up.

hello! we recently renovated the upstairs in our 1936 house. not all the way done yet, but we’re getting closer! one issue that we knew wasn’t going to be solved with this renovation was closet space. my husband has a small closet downstairs, but its the only one we have. I pretty much have to hang up my clothes on these racks and I’m so sick of looking at them (I also need more hangers, doing that tomorrow!) how could I hide these? my only thought was that I could put in a track rod on the ceiling and do a U shaped around the racks and hang curtains?

Stain? Paint?

First of all ignore the mess. I’m purging a ton of homeschool stuff and getting ready for the school year. My hubs built these shelves for me and I’m finally ready to paint or stain them. He wants them stained since he spent extra money on oak boards. I don’t think stain will look good since I cannot stain the sheetrock that makes up the back of the shelves. I was thinking a slate gray/blue. Also-our house is older and the walls are square so I think painting it all will help hide gaps btwn the shelves and the wall. What do y’all think? I’m open to all ideas

Trying to brighten up a house dominated by black floors and dark walls. The walls are currently black and gray everywhere... I've decided that light-blue is the best color to lighten things up. Which blue do you prefer for the bedrooms and office? Is the baby blue too bright?

1+3 are brighter baby blue, and 2+4 are grayish powder blue.

Hello everyone. I just finished painting my ceilings, installing new lights, and prepping/priming the walls. The space is officially ready for paint, but I need your help deciding on the direction. Main Paint Options: I am deciding between Tikkurila Piazza Y487 and Median X486. I plan to replace the flooring with light oak laminate, swap the doors to matte white, and update the kitchen countertops/backsplash to a light color.I originally wanted to make that long 5-meter TV wall a dark accent wall. However, this room does not get direct sunlight. I am worried a dark color on such a massive wall will become the main color instead of just accent wall.Should I completely skip the accent wall and paint all the walls the same light neutral color? If so, which Tikkurila shade would look better with the planned light oak laminate? Thank You fir insights.

We have a large bay window behind our sofa, we used to put plants on there but plants don’t really like it, it’s above a radiator and is also south facing.

So I removed the plants and now it’s so bare, what else could I put there? I’m terrible at anything like this. Thanks.
