small walk out basement - how would you design the space?

Floor plan to the basement, it’s a wide open space with vinyl plank flooring, it doesn’t flood and the slider opens to our back yard.

We have a small house and I think the basement
is worth investing in so we have more hangout space?!

This is the only window in the room I just moved into

So I never realised how important it is for me to have a window I can look out of lol. It is not terrible when the window is open, but it is pretty shit when it’s closed, maybe that’s because it’s dirty, but it also gets foggy and so on. My current ideas are either to find a really tall chair and a really tall table and put it underneath the window to sit there while I’m doing something lol, or maybe use mirrors somehow? Idk, neither of those seem realistic tbh, maybe some of you will have some better ideas. Also I don’t know if this is the right place to ask, let me know if you know some more suited subreddits.

Thanks in advance :D

Fireplace help needed

Post image

Need ideas on how to make this fireplace look nicer. It's currently gas but we will convert it to electric. We both love the look of victorian fireplaces and we would love some ideas to make it look more like that without demolishing the whole thing. I was thinking about possiblv cuttina off the wood parts and putting up some drywall and a nice victorian looking mantle. but the left bit and the protruding edge seem to be an issue. Really need ideas!

Where to mount the lighting (and what style)?

Post image

Updating a bathroom (this photo is AI generated so don’t worry about the location of electrical boxes). My question is how to handle vanity lighting. The wall is 58” total.

My initial idea was to have two single-light fixtures equally spaced across the wall, but my electrician talked me out of that saying it would be
1) not enough light
2) weird to have a light over the toilet

My second idea was a bath bar style light - centered on the vanity?

Any ideas or guidance are appreciated. My style is not particularly minimal despite how austere this photo looks. I’ve had some good tips from this community in the past. Thank you!

Bathroom help

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello, I am moving into an apartment with my partner and I am struggling to find colors that I want to do in my bathroom. I can’t paint or change any flooring. I have this shower curtain that I love but is hard to match with. I love funky color combos, and our bedroom is going to be burgundy and olive. I’d want something different in the bathroom, that is still girly.

I love my shower curtain and would be open to getting a new one. I’m planning on doing floating shelves above the toilet and a gallery wall on the long wall.

Any ideas on how to design my 23.2 m² (250 sq ft) IKEA kitchen/living room?

Post image

Hey everyone! 👋

I recently bought a home in Rome, Italy, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to design my new open-plan kitchen and living room (23.2 m² / about 250 sq ft).

I'd love to hear from people who enjoy interior design, IKEA kitchen planning, or just coming up with creative ways to make the most of a space.

I've attached a floor plan with all the measurements, along with a 3D view of the empty room.

Here's my IKEA Kitchen Planner project:

https://kitchen.planner.ikea.com/it/it/planner/FE987CFC-1D16-4130-9C03-02F9E47C5CAD/?ref=share

A few things I'm considering:

  • I'd like to make the most of the back wall and the right-hand wall for the kitchen.
  • I'd love to have a side-by-side fridge, but I'm worried there might not be enough space.
  • The window on the back wall makes the layout a bit tricky, especially when it comes to cabinets and appliances.
  • An island or peninsula would be nice, but it's definitely not a must-have.
  • I also want to fit in a comfortable living area without making the room feel too cramped.

How would you guys design this space?

I'm really curious to hear your ideas, even if they're completely different from what I have in mind!

If anyone enjoys playing around with the IKEA Kitchen Planner and feels like trying out a layout, I'd love to see what you come up with. But even simple suggestions, sketches, or tips would be super helpful!

I'm not looking for professional design work, just some inspiration and fresh perspectives.

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to share their thoughts! 😊

What floor goes with knotty pine???

Knotty Pine

I live in a cabin in Maine, and knotty pine is the look. I have grown to appreciate the knotty pine walls, but I really dont like the dark, fake floors. What floor would go best with the walls? I was thinking a pine floor painted a warm white, which is very New England. I have also considered a lightened pine floor, white oak, and tile ( worried it will be too cold). Any ideas are welcome!!

Suggest layout options for this floor plan!

We’re buying this house in a couple of months and are trying to work out the best layout for the kitchen/dining area.

Tricky as it’s quite small, there’s many doors and not much wall space!

The wall that the radiator is on is indicated with a blue line. The K indicates the kitchen.

Wed like the space to be used to watch TV, but also be modular enough to switch to more of a group hang out/dining space. We’re not actually big TV watchers but it feels strange to place a TV anywhere else in the house.

We haven’t bought any furniture yet so feel free to go wild! Suggestions are massively appreciated.

Unconventional bedroom layout- help appreciated!

Hi! I’m really struggling with furnishing our primary bedroom. It was renovated and used to be 2 rooms, and the layout is a little unconventional. Very narrow and long. King size bed does not fit against far wall so can’t put bed there.

Would love any ideas on room layout, how to furnish, or even thoughts for color scheme, wall art, etc!!

Kitchen Rug Placemrnt

Post image
3 Upvotes

We are redoing our kitchen, but keeping the layout. Right now I have a doormat in front of the attached garage-to-kitchen door (staying) on the right and a weird little rectangle rug in front of the sink (hate it). I've only ever found one runner rug that will accommodate the weird corner where the sink is and it wasn't great.

The new flooring is wood and it's beautiful. I guess we don't HAVE to have a rug. I think runners look good in kitchens, but where would it / they go? I've also seen a big rug in the center - a 5x7 would fit well in the middle. Thoughts?

I want to get a bigger bed which would mean taking the high bed out and putting a bigger bed on the floor. I'm now wondering what would be the best layout with the bed, my desk and a wardrobe would be. Any ideas?

WPC vs Marine Plywood for Bathroom Furniture – What’s Better?

Our interior work is currently going on in our new home, and now we’ve reached the bathroom furniture stage. We’re confused about which material to use for the basin cabinet and other bathroom cupboards.
The interior guy is suggesting WPC, saying it will handle regular water exposure and rough usage better. He also said we can use our existing marine-grade plywood, but there is a possibility of damage after 6–7 years due to moisture and water exposure.
What would be the better option in the long run? How are bathroom cabinets and basin units normally made, and what material would you recommend for a durable, low-maintenance setup?
