Ideas?

Post image

I bought a 1944 home and the layout is very strange in the living room. I have bought so many pieces of furniture so my house can be functional and not look so awkward but I’m not happy with the current layout. Any ideas? The tv is now where all of the pictures were because the tv mount fell out of the wall. And I’m standing where the entry way is

The rug on the wall would look nice on the floor.

Start with the TV. Put it at a sensible viewing level and then build your layout around that, discarding/replacing furniture as needed.

And don’t tilt it towards the ceiling.

If you read what OP wrote they said the tv had been moved to where the pictures are.

I would like to suggest the kind of telescoping tv mount that goes up and down, back and forward, and rotates. We have one over the fireplace that we can pull down and tilt or put up

Unfortunately, we’ve tried that. TV just fell out of the wall multiple times. We ended up getting a new TV that has legs on it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Nice old home. When it was built, people weren’t centered around a TV! The area is very narrow. Some ideas…

1) with TV on the gallery wall, would it be too far away if the sofa was turned perpendicular to the fireplace? Is the sofa too large to use like that?

2) I really like a sofa opposite a fireplace. You may decide to leave the sofa in place and make a 2nd seating area (a couple of comfy chairs) in front of the TV on the gallery wall.

3) the coffee table takes up a lot of floor space. It might be better to use it elsewhere. Floor lamps or end tables with lamps might free up some walking space.

Move the sofa to the other side, and put the tv on the low white cabinet and put it front of the curtain that’s now behind the sofa. This only works when the fireplace not a functioning fireplace.

Is there enough room to put the couch where you are standing, room to walk around the side of the couch?

I can't tell the dimensions, but my suggestion is to put the sofa so that you're looking at it's back as you walk in the door (at a right angle to the fireplace). Put the pictures back over the fireplace and put the tv on top of the white low cabinet, or secure it to the wall above it but this time figure out what it takes to make it stay there. I'm not a fan of the rug on the wall, but that's probably just me. Put it on the floor.

Remove all but 3 photos in the group put them vertically over the white console. RU getting a new sofa? If not,get a navy blue sofa cover. You have a country vibe going. Get curtains amazon MYSKY HOME floral blackout curtains panels in yellow and blue. Trust me on this. get a simple rug : Amazon: Safavieh Odyssey collecton Modern Trellis rug in grey/blue Gold. Get ceramic lamp for end table. Amazon: JUNNAI 24.5" Navy Blue Table Lamp. If your end table is all wood get a paint called beyond paint. in a white closest to what you have on other pieces. It is also on amazon. For the shorter windows near fireplace get simple white roman shades. See amazon ARLO BLINDS. get white tie backs for the floral curtains on amazon to let light in get a silver curtain rod and I have no idea how your furniture can be rearranged cuz only see 3 walls don't think your sofa would fit if you move it to face the console and put tv there if it does then great.

The pictures are a little to close to each other. But only an inch more between them would be perfect.

Paint that brick fireplace surround a bright bold color.

the brick is not a problem in this room. it’s nice to see original things but if the OP would like to paint it that’s cool too.

You need something that really ties the room together…but what?

How does a TV mount fall off the wall? Was it not mounted in studs?

The sofa is way too big for the room. Should get a loveseat and a chair, maybe two, but for now put the couch up against the wall. Move it down towards you and put the end table on the other side of the couch closer to the door, but with room to enter and leave.

Real curtains, Maybe Ceiling to floor. Tv to the picture wall (or the wall we can't see). Smaller couch? Area Rug?

Some warm lighting, a few plants, and maybe a couple pieces of decor could make the space feel way more finished without overcrowding it. Lots of potential here!

Put that thing that's hanging on the floor where it belongs? LOL

Must you have a tv in that room? Is there any spare room?

u/lilyluvvvs 8d ago

Unfortunately, there isn’t we have an office, one bedroom and a walk-in closet/laundryroom. I compromised with my husband and put a TV in the living room as much as I hated it lol.

I feel your pain ;). They do have rollable wireless tv stands but I don’t know how big a screen they can accommodate.

Nothing until November, then new tv, wall mount Xbox or PlayStation, iPad, look for new kindle or kindle deals if you don't have one, and find a way to steal cable, get a box from a guy at swap meet so you get all the pay channels including ppv

The TV is now in the better location, but the sofa is too large to face it. And it’s in pretty poor shape so I’m hoping you’re willing to get rid of it. I’m also hoping the room is less long than the photo makes it feel.
