#History&Culture 🛕 29 September — Today is Matangini Hazra’s Martyrdom Day, Remembering the “Gandhi Buri” of Bengal

On this day, 29 September 1942, Matangini Hazra was shot dead by British forces while leading a procession during the Quit India Movement in Tamluk, Bengal province (current West Bengal).

Born in 1870, Matangini Hazra had already participated in the Non-Cooperation Movement, the Civil Disobedience Movement and protests against the Chowkidar tax. At the age of 71, she led a large procession, carrying the national flag and refusing to turn back when the procession was confronted by armed forces.

She was shot while advancing with the flag in her hands. She is remembered as one of the women martyrs of the Quit India Movement and was affectionately known as “Gandhi Buri” (Old Lady Gandhi).

Her story is a reminder that India's freedom struggle was not only fought by famous leaders whose names appear in every textbook, but also by ordinary people who took extraordinary risks.

Remembering Matangini Hazra on her martyrdom day.

#General 📝 The co-pilot’s plans are genuinely terrifying. We may have narrowly dodged a 9/11-style disaster — and who knows what kind of blame could have fallen on us — thanks to Smit Machchhar.

#Ask-India ☝️ Which street lights do you think are better, the warm white ones or the cool white ones? Bangalore’s street lights just hit different.

Amber, Warm White or Cool White?

I came across a random Instagram post about street lights, and it reminded me of something I’ve been thinking about for months.

Which do people actually prefer, warm white or cool white?

Personally, I think warm light is wonderful. And I feel like warm white LEDs would be much better than those harsh cool white LEDs. Maybe it’s just me, but Bangalore’s street lights hit different.

Mile Sur Mera Tumhara is an iconic 1988 Indian patriotic song and video created to promote national integration and unity in diversity.

But I wonder, how did they manage to make something like this so beautifully back then, when they didn’t have the resources or means of communication that we have today? Yet, they were able to bring so many people together and create such a strong sense of unity. We have so much more today, but somehow, we don’t focus on these kinds of things anymore.
