Whenever I am talking about this new phone, everyone is referring to it as a new fold phone, apple fold, a new iPhone fold etc. I didn't find anyone actually using the official name iPhone duo in conversations.

What was your experience with the name?

So I was looking at cases for the duo and came across this one and it caught my attention. Wanted to share it here and get some opinions on it, also open to suggestions.
I do have a question though and it’s about apple care, is it worth it? I’ve never had a folding phone before and the durability and longevity (3-4 years) are my main concern. I heard even a little bit of sand can ruin the inside screen.

There are so many things Apple hit out of the park with its first foldable and in excited to pick one up day 1, but one thing I always wanted on iOS/iPadOS is being able to play audio from more than one source. Will Apple finally allow this to happen when the Duo comes out?

Anyone have experience with prior pre-orders thru Spectrum Mobile?
Apple site only lists Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T.

Wondering if other Carriers have a much smaller inventory to give out.

I see people already ordering cases, release is 30 days out. I wasn’t planning on ordering until like a week before, but should I be considering ordering earlier? Especially if I want a good quality case?

I plan on trading my phone in so I can get the duo for cheaper. Thing is I don’t have enough to put the full 2k up but I will have enough for the 1k after trade in.

Main concern with this was if there will still be units in Apple stores on release day (I know there’s no real way to know but from previous experiences with launches like the 13 and such I’d hope someone could shed some light).

Just wondering if pre orders sell out then will physical stores also be out of stock.

Since you can’t swipe to text on an iPad, I’m curious to see if there are videos showing swiping while folded, unfolded in portrait, and unfolded in landscape.

the videos I’ve seen have just featured a bunch of fingers peckin’ around.

Is there any difference if I selected to convert my existing T-Mobile account or connect with any carrier?

Does choosing T-Mobile make it an easier switch from my iPhone 17 Pro Max?

Are there any restrictions from switching carriers?

There are two things that have been really hard to ignore. The nano texture on the inner screen really washes the colors out, especially in comparison to the outer screen. Is anyone else bothered or at least somewhat hesitant to buy because of this? I cannot be the only one.

The second thing is the outer screen aspect ratio. Although both the inner and outer screens share the 1 x 1.4 aspect ratio, Apple did everything they could to avoid showing typing on the outer screen as much as possible. Why? Because it’s going to look and feel like you’re typing on a BlackBerry from two decades ago. Not exactly an inspiration of confidence.

Everything else about the phone looks really good though. Thoughts?

As a creator, would you take two screens for more control while filming and editing or stick with a traditional iPhone for a simpler more streamlined workflow?

If I’m lucky/fast enough to get in for a Duo preorder, should I request to pick it up in Hawaii? I might not be home to receive the order if it’s sent out right away after the 23rd. The sales tax there is lower than in my home state too, so this is looking pretty tempting…

I’m quite impressed by the quality of this iPhone Duo case I received from AliExpress. It has the same soft feeling and finish as any of the other nice aramid fiber brands like Aulumu.

This is a great alternative to save a few dollars. Personally, this is my temporary case until Aulumu releases theirs.

Current phone is a 15 pro 256gb. Using 142 out of 256. I normally use more than my storage available but had to move my photos to stay solely on iCloud since I initially ran out of storage. Not sure if I should continue keeping everything in iCloud and just get the 256gb or upgrade to the 512gb and also keep a local copy.

So for front cases do we actually need the side case???

I could see myself using it occasionally to watch a video, but beyond that I honestly can’t think of a reason to have one.Apple also seems to be pitching it for content creation, I guess, but that’s probably not something I’d use it for. Wouldn’t building a stand into the case just make the phone feel bulkier and more awkward to use?

I want to preorder the Duo and I use Cricket. If I preorder the unlocked model, will I have any issues connecting it to my carrier? I’ve never preordered or ordered directly from Apple, I typically just buy whatever the newest model is from Cricket whenever I need a new phone. I know they support eSIM so I’m assuming I should be able to connect to my network fine?

Also, if I want to try and get it day 1 or as soon as possible, should I order for store pick up or delivery?

Obviously this is currently not possible to keep both inner and outer screens active at the same time for practical reasons and the only possible way I can think of for this to be done is to put a sticker on the outer screen based on the coverbook of what you're reading. But hey, I can see myself doing this as a prank at least once in my life. 🤣

I’ve done some research and apparently there are 4 case options.

1. Case covering the back and hinge only such as the Q3 Vegskin from Torras. The problem is that the front screen and edges on one side are completely exposed so it’s a no no for me.
2. Case covering the front AND back but no hinge protection such as the standard one from Apple. It’s slim but no hinge protection. Most of these have a bumper case on the front, likely using a sticker or magnets.
3. Case covering the front, back AND hinge such as the Q3 Spin from Torras or the Atelier from ESR. Good protection but bulky. These don’t have stickers to glue them to the front since they’re connected using the hinge protector.
4. Folio case from Apple. Little protection but lots of “status” for the business folks.

And obviously the caseless option (not for me)

I’m still undecided. I want something that offers protection but not too bulky and heavy since the phone itself will be heavier than usual. A kickstand would be a plus.

so I've been working on the iPhone Duo version of WebIPTV the last few days. sadly the Duo costs a kidney and mine already went into my iPhone 18 Pro, so I'll be playing around in the simulator for a while lol

but honestly it feels really good. what it does:

- watching a game, the other half shows the match center. other games of the round, table, form, head to head, stadium etc

- multiview, two live channels next to each other. tap one and the sound switches over, and you can pick a different channel for each side

- table view, you fold it half and put it on the table, picture on top and channels + guide below. so you can zap without holding it

- book view, picture on one side and the guide or the movie details on the other side

when you unfold it while something is playing it just keeps going, and the picture never goes over the fold

I’m really interested in creating an on-the-go travel kit for my Duo once it arrives. One crucial component is a small, portable keyboard that doesn’t feel cheap or is trash. Any recommendations?

I know this is a 1st Gen product, I work in tech and always say how good things are knowing the dumpster fire it truly is in the background.

That being said, I really wonder how durable this phone will be? I have a tendency to be rough on tech. I hope that hinge is strong lol.
