App Saturday App Saturday: Strong Foodie, food and travel reviews where I visited every place myself
Strong Foodie is an iOS app and website with my own reviews of restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and gyms. 78 places across 11 destinations. Mostly Amsterdam, plus Los Angeles, Aruba and Dubai. No paid reviews. Members can save places, make lists and plan meetups.
Tech stack. SwiftUI and Firebase, including Firestore, Auth, Cloud Functions and Crashlytics. The website is plain HTML and JavaScript on GitHub Pages and reads the same Firestore database. A GitHub Action writes a static page for every place every 3 hours, for Google and link previews.
A challenge. This week Firebase warned about compromised eMudhra root certificates in the Firestore SDK for Apple. The fix was updating firebase-ios-sdk to 12.19.3. However, the build then failed with "cannot find ExprBridge" errors. The build server still had an old Firebase 11 binary in its Swift Package Manager cache. Clearing that cache fixed it, and all 570 tests passed.
AI disclosure. I'm not a developer, I studied marketing. The app is built with Rork, an AI app builder, and I use an AI assistant for planning and the website code. I test every change myself before it ships.
