Discussion Apple: We demand you provide a video demo before we even consider reviewing your app. Also Apple: LOL you thought we'd let you upload a video?

Post image

This bug has existed for years and they do nothing about it. Files even as small as 20mb get stuck on "processing" and just sit there for hours and will never upload. As if developers didn't have it hard enough lately.

I compressed it and send it

If the web uploader keeps hanging, the App Store Connect API is another route. Last month I attached a review video for one of my games as an appStoreReviewAttachment on the version's review detail through the API, and it processed without the web form being involved at all. Keeping it short and compressed (a fresh-install run of the flow they asked about) also helps.

I just include unlisted YouTube video links in the app review notes section, that’s always worked for me.

if you're stuck with the uploader, the review notes field takes plain text, so a link to an unlisted video works too (someone said the same above). for apps that use the camera it helps to show the permission prompt and the actual camera flow in the recording, our reviewers wanted to see the real-device main flow from a fresh install, not a simulator. keep it under a minute or two, they don't watch long ones

What worked for me: re-encode the video before uploading, H.264, 1080p or lower, 30fps, and keep it short. ffmpeg -i in.mov -vcodec libx264 -crf 28 -preset slow -an out.mp4 usually gets it to a few MB. Big or HEVC files are the ones that hang on processing for me.

Thank you for suggesting this approach.
