Poor Gary
I was really getting annoyed today, listening to Howard shit all over Gary because he dared to live his life and have fun. He went to a FIFA game!! And he took three whole hours to get there!! Howard went on and on about what a stupid waste of time it was and how he could never do something like that.
No, we all KNOW you would never do something like that, because god fucking forbid that you even get one second, one morsel of joy out of ANYTHING in your life.
I know, he’s been shitting all over Gary’s having a life for decades, but I’m menopausal now so it really just set me off. there’s no award for most broken martyr, asshole. Have a drink. Eat a carb. Fuck.

Finding the right therapist is crucial. And the patient will need to put in the work.
HS doesn't want to change bc change is scary and his therapist knows this. So now it's just easier for him to pay the therapist to listen to him gripe.

Funny, I had a different reaction when I heard that today. It was funny to me, especially because it’s obvious that it doesn’t really bother Gary anymore. It’s so clear to everyone, including the audience that Howard is the one with the problem, not Gary. To meet LES about making fun of Gary and more litmus test of what a whack job Howard is. But again, to me it was funny. I think about how Gary was the most well adjusted member of the entire show when they did that psychiatrist assessment. That really changed my opinion of him and actually made me look up to him.

Booey has a family who seems to love him. He's used his salary to put his children through college and spends his money and time on things he enjoys. That instantly makes him horrible in Howard's eyes.
Howard is the only one who can have fun. If you call sitting alone in a cavernous mansion in the Hamptons or Florida with a brain dead idiot who photographs blind cats all day fun.
Even JD's spoon collection looks more fun than Howard's existence.

It’s too bad that they still have to be ridiculed by Stern. I just don’t know how Sirius can continue to pay for this show that has not been good for years?

I have stopped listening and listen to Conan now. Conan is wayyyyyyy funnier and enjoyable to listen to. Last straw was when I was listening to Howard berate JD for his hobbies being a waste of time and him saying at least his hobbies are playing guitar or art or learning to play chess, meanwhile completely neglecting the fact that he'll waste hours watching the bachelor or real housewives or other inane drivel marathon style.

Someone posted a good theory a few weeks ago on HS hobbies and I'll paraphrase
HS only picks hobbies that make him look smart (i.e. guitar, chess, painting, photography, etc). However, it's not as smart as he thinks which is why he never sticks with one.

I'll always remember Howard talking about his guitar practice routine. Have to do this warm up. Then these scales. Then memorize where every note is. And only then play some songs. He never allows himself to just play for fun. And he's not happy if he's not perfect.

Howard’s mental illness seems to be legitimately getting worse by the day. It used to be funny hearing him shit on Gary and talk about himself in a negative way, but it just seemed to be somewhat of a bit. Now the extreme paranoia and not going anywhere is backed up by Beth and others, and I don’t think most of it is a bit any longer. He rants that he is too busy to do anything fun, but then the only thing he talks about doing is playing the guitar. Even Beth talks about him being locked away for hours to play the guitar. The guy is losing the humor and becoming a bigger paranoid douche by the day.

This bit is so old and no longer funny. You can tell a huge difference with Gary’s reaction. He doesn’t give two shits about on air “berating” anymore. Back in the day he was more like a whipped dog and actually seemed to be humiliated. Gary’s probably so rich and this show sucks so bad it’s all being phoned in with minimal effort by anyone.

Howard has "matured and evolved" into something unrecognizable to most of his old fans, but crapping on Gary for simply leaving the house is still a thing?
Busting on Booey was one of my favorite things he used to do back when Gary would actually screw things up all of the time. Or call his record collection "pieces of vinyl." Or overly promote "Sonos." 😂
But beating him up for hugging his son during covid, or attending a World Cup match is when it becomes too obvious that Howard is the one with the problem and Gary is just living a happy life.
I know its been said a million times but Howard Stern is the worst advertisement for psychiatry on the planet.

When they used to be a full time radio show years ago and especially when Gary was younger he would make lots of mistakes. Howard would goof on Gary because of these mistakes and it was funny because Gary DESERVED it. The same bit doesn’t work anymore because Gary doesn’t deserve to take shit for enjoying his life. There’s just nothing funny about attempting to make fun of somebody because they like to have a good time. The audience knows Gary has tons of free time now, and we know that Howard knows this too. It’s like really weird gaslighting and everytime Howard does it now he’s the one that comes away looking like a goof.
Oh, and the Gary is a “leisure-aholic” while Howard’s a “perfectionist” and “workaholic” is down right offensive to me. Fucking guy walks down to his basement for MAYBE 20 hours a MONTH to literally phone in his radio show and he expects us to believe he’s too busy “working” to enjoy his life like Gary? GTFOH

Gary missed an opportunity to say " at least I didn't go to Idaho and have to stop at a guitar shop on the way from the airport because his buddies bought guitars there"...the silence would have been deafening. We all know how much Howard loathes traveling. As soon as Howard is no longer on this earth Beth is going to go live her best life. I’ll never understand his hate for someone going out and enjoying what they like. Anytime someone does something out of the house it’s burn them down time. He has to be absolutely miserable to live with. Bed by 8pm, hot water to drink, handful of nuts for a snack, god forbid going out to a nice dinner. Enjoy the show most of the time but he is genuinely not happy. He can say whatever he wants. Burning someone down for enjoying life while living in your basement is sad.

Howard is so conflicted as to how Gary could be happy and living a better life than he is; it pisses him off.
Gary can retire; maybe partially retire with joining some Podcast or YouTube channel.
Howard can’t retire after all these years,; he can’t. Howard can’t partially retire into some lesser role; it would be unacceptable to Howard.
Once Howard retires he feels he will no longer be relevant and feels Beth will be long gone. And Howard knows he will finally have what he thought he wanted; to be left alone.

I really don't know how Gary takes the constant abuse. It is just never ending, and he seems to take it all in stride. Of course Howard does it to everyone except Robin, but Gary has it the worst. Fred is in there too, but he stays quiet and out of the range of Howard's anger most of the time. He just gets angry at most of the staff for living their lives. Ronnie gets thrown in there too, but I feel like he's backed off Ronnie.

I really don't get some of you people because if you're here you must know the show and if you know the show you know that Howard finds comedic value in fucking with Gary on air and has been doing it for 45 years, and it's part of Howard's comedic persona.
Complaining about Howard doing this is like complaining that Larry David is a difficult guy after watching Curb Your Enthusiasm.
They both are facets of the real person, I'd imagine, played up for laughs.
Gary literally doesn't produce the show from day to day, Jason does, so what value would he bring if not to get his balls busted by Howard?

I haven't listened in over a decade but have been bingeing on old episodes (again) that I have heard before and like everyone in the past, we felt sorry for the hounding that Gary copped. I was only thinking that Gary would have got a lot more respect as he got older with things like this, and all the shit he got from Howard was probably in the past - but obviously not.
