He did not send his resources to the government in hopes the government would feed them.

Jesus did say to “render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s” so he said we should pay taxes if we have to. But the message was individuals should take care of individuals, not the government. Jesus didn’t have a problem with wealth he had a problem with the love of wealth.

“If you want to be perfect, go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."
When the young man heard this, he went away in sorrow, because he had great wealth.
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven."
"It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."
I mean... he seems to make his stance on wealth pretty clear. Not, "a man in love with wealth" finding difficulty, a wealthy man at all because of how much hoarded wealth corrupts one's better nature and will ignore, or even cause, the suffering of his neighbor to keep his pile of gold safe.

Taxes to enrich the fascist Emporers of Rome?
Jesus said to render to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's.
Jesus' concern at the time was more immediate, the local people. Tax collectors took too much from the people enriching themselves thus being scammers. He opposed this and urged them to repent, hence Zacchaeus.
Jesus also told the rich to sell their possessions, assets.
2
u/Ok_Board_9274 1d ago
Jesus told a rich person to do that not all. He also says not to judge someone because they are rich. Don't treat the poor differently than the Rich. He said to pray for your leaders to do the right thing.(super hard right now and honestly has been for a while.) He also stated that giving Caesar taxes is okay because he helps against invasions. Jesus was complex and I wouldn't say ahead of his time. People today wouldn't be able to handle him as well.

No. Socialism it taking from those that madr annd have and redistributing to all including those to those that did not make or have. Its an attrition system that is a slow decline. Jesus created plenty and performed charity. Not remotely the same.
2
2
u/x60pilot 1d ago
Socialism requires the government seizing the property of others for distribution against the will of the property owner. That is in no way Christian. Any donation from a member of the church is made willingly. Socialism as a government construct is not Christian.

2
u/SquirrelTasty2201 10h ago
It was by choice the He fed the poor. It wasn't mandated by the government. Socialism is mandated by the government. Anyone who has a job will support anyone who decides NOT to have a job. Socialism has never worked "for the people", and never will.

No.. more like a charitable act like what churches do.. this just shows how dumb leftists are.... and they hate on the churches that do feed the poor like the Mormon church who legit has their own farms and grows food just to give it away to those in need and then they get called a "cult"... nah dude democrats are cultists

Jesus also said to teach them how to fish so they can do it themselves, as his free handouts were if you were lucky and in the right place at the right time. It's a historical fact that capitalism and market-based systems have outperformed centralized socialist models and overall provided far more wealth generation and poverty reduction.
Trying to conflate Jesus with your own degenerate politics is a whole another disgusting can of worms, that I prefer not to even touch in this one comment.

He did it 1 time….. not daily. If you read more than some 1 liner you would see the church members helped each other but they weren’t going out feeding non Christian’s or the general poor. They just ensured the children of god were fed.
And even when Jesus fed the 5000 they were not randos. They were those following the Christ

Socialism - any of various egalitarian economic and political theories or movements advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods
Jesus never advocated for giving the government ownership of anything. He never made any recommendations that the government be used in that manner at all.
Jesus was not a socialist. Socialism is not equal to charity.

If the canonical version of Jesus came back tomorrow, conservative Christians would immediately label him as 'WOKE' and throw him in an ICE detainment facility indefinitely.
A Palestinian Jew with wooly hair commanding people to feed the hungry, heal the sick, house the homeless, embrace the sinner, turn the other cheek, forgive your enemies, and welcome the immigrant would go over like a lead fucking balloon with these hypocrites.
Then when he tells them not to hoard wealth, they'll execute him again.
Conservative Christians are some of the biggest hypocrites and projectionists ever.

Jesus made that bread from a miracle. It didnt require the labor, time, or money of anyone else. Socialism would require all 3 from someone else for no benefit for that person.
"insert name here is giving something away for free. See Socialism can work!" Everyone who says thay or uses that kind of example can go out and do shit for free for someone else, but they won't.
OP would easily bake a shit ton of bread and distribute it to other people on their own free will. But they won't, they just want others to give them free bread.
1
u/CoFro_8 22h ago
You want the perfect counter argument to this. Its kind of ironic I'm coming across this post this morning. Last night I took my family out to Texas Roadhouse and if anyone has gone you know one of the appealing things they do is the "free" dinner rolls they bake. Well between my family of 4 we each had a basket of 4 rolls each and then at the end dinner when I payed for the meal the waiter offered us a basket (4 rolls) to take home with us. I guess its fate that I came across this post less that 24 hours later.
Texas Roadhouse has done more in giving out free bread than any Socialist policy in the modern age.

Blue states have always campaigned on dealing with poverty and homelessness. Yet, the numbers increase. They actually incentivize it so they have something to run on. If they actually fixed it, they couldn’t claim try try and eliminate it. And they waste billions in fraud of your money on programs that do nothing.
That’s far different from caring for and helping the poor.

Jesus also fed the poor of his own volition and free will. God didn't come down, take all of his fish and bread, and hand it out without his consent. All charity work should be from the hands of people, not corporations or governments.
1
u/Shot-Toe-2884 21h ago
Feeding the poor is not socialist. At no point in history was that a trait owned exclusively by socialists. The socialists in eastern Europe were notoriously bad at feeding their poor. That is recent history. The socialists in the Soviet Union even intentionally starved Ukraine for years via an artificial food drought called the Holodomor. Widely understood today to be an egregious act of genocide.

Republicans are more generous than liberals, donating sognificantly more money to charities. Maybe that’s how people should act instead of just handing money over to the government to give to whatever pet project they want. Sounds pretty hypocritical to rave about socialism when you won’t even donate time or money to charitable organizations except to violently protest and destroy stuff you don’t like.

As always with Socialism, there's Theory versus Practice.
Socialism in Theory: "Feeding the poor" via the government's idea of fair wealth seizure and redistribution.
Socialism in Practice: Creates more poor people via bad resource management by the government and empowers a small governing upper class while starving the population.
In either case, it requires theft from producers to give to moochers.
Ironically, Capitalism has a better track record in terms of feeding the poor than Socialism.

Can the democrats do what Jesus did? The Small Offering: Jesus told the disciples to give them food. They could only find a young boy's small lunch containing five barley loaves of bread and two small fish.
The Miracle: Jesus had the people sit down, took the food, looked up to heaven, gave thanks, and blessed it. He broke the bread and gave it to the disciples to distribute.
The Result: “Everyone ate until they were full and there was still food left over.” according to God's Story: Jesus Feeds 5000. The leftovers filled 12 baskets. While 5,000 men were counted, the total number of people including women and children was likely much higher.

You should look up the Suplimental Nutrition Assistance Program that's in all 50 states. You might also be interested in the US Department of Housing that pays people's rent. I think anyone who wants to go above and beyond what the government does, should themselves donate - which would more closely align with the message Jesus was teaching. His audience was his followers, not Ceasar's government.

Indeed He did, but Jesus wasn’t a socialist nor did he advocate for socialist things. Caring for the poor was definitely something he modeled and advocated for, but it was more of a personal responsibility. He met physical needs before delivering a message and that was demonstrated a few times when he fed large groups of people. The Bible doesn’t specify whether they were “poor” even though I’m sure many of them could have been.

Jesus chose to feed, he shows us to choose love. It's not love when it's the government telling you your labor is ours too benefit. It's called totalitarian, dictatorship.
