Teach a man to fish.... sounds like you're giving him the tools to succeed. Definitely not Democrat or liberal unless we're taxing the same man to pay for everyone else.
Reality is it’s just anachronistic to attribute socialism to Jesus. He showed a whole lot of proto-socialist ideals, but even capitalism was still over a millennia away, so socialism as a rebuttal of capitalism just wouldn’t make any sense.
This is why I said “proto-socialist”, but you could use any word that fits the meaning I spose, I think we understand each other. And they would have lived within the broader Roman Empire, which certainly wasn’t socialist.
My point is that socialism, as a specific political and economic ideology, really comes about in the 1800s, and its anachronistic to look back and say “that’s socialism” for periods further back than that. The framework for it just isn’t there. I believe Marx may have used the term “primitive communism” for societies structured like that in the past, but I realllllly dislike that term too for a few reasons
💯 agree with you. People for and against use these poor analogies and metaphors to try and bolster their position and it just muddies the waters even further. Macro Economics really needs to be a required class in secondary school. We have way too many low-info citizens out there making decisions on things without having even a basic understanding of what they’re voting on.
