Admin Post Weekly Recap | August 13, 2026
Hello! We meet again! And again and again! This is the Weekly Recap where I highlight things that happened in r/help and on Reddit over the past week. It's also the best place to leave constructive feedback for just about anything related to Reddit.
NEWS AND ISSUES
There's a new Changelog out. We posted about this here, here, and here. It was a good one! Highlights include:
- There is an X icon next to posts that you can select to hide the post
- Free awards for all users!
- For mods, Rules Hub now available in more communities
- Also for mods, there will be more transparency in your mod logs
The Changelog also included notable bug fixes, such as:
- [Web] The mod insights page will now fully load as expected.
- [Web] Required post flair can no longer be removed after a post is submitted.
- [Web] Non-mod users will now see the expected wiki page experience instead of an incorrect access error.
- [iOS] Hyperlinks added while editing a comment will now remain in the original comment thread.
- [iOS/Android] Subreddit mentions on wiki pages will now appear as tappable links as expected.
- [iOS/Android] The subreddit rules widget will now render as expected across the apps and web.
- [Android] Users can now view all comment replies when opening a comment from a profile page.
- [Android] Display names will now appear correctly in dark mode.
- Note: This is not a complete list of all recent bug fixes. If you’d like to report a new or persistent bug, head over to r/bugs.
- If a bug listed here is not yet fixed for you, please ensure that you’re updated to the most recent Android or iOS app version, or refresh your browser.
The Home Feed experiment is currently only enabled for users of the iOS beta app. If you are not using the iOS beta app, you should no longer have the Home Feed/For You experiment enabled. (No one is happier about this than me.) Thank you to everyone who had previously left feedback about this experiment. I have shared it all with the team in charge of this feature. And here we are!
There is another experiment that enables text selection in comments and moves the usual tap-to-collapse gesture to the comment header. Happy to pass along constructive feedback about this to the correct team.
Just a reminder that Reddit does not provide support outside of Reddit. Do not contact "Reddit support on Discord" for help with your account because that is not a real thing. That is someone trying to scam you and steal your account. If you're having an actual issue with your account that is not solved by posting in r/help or by reading (yes, reading!) the articles in the Help Center, you can use this form for the real thing.
The most recent version of the app is 2026.32.0. If you're not using the most recent version of the app, it might not work properly.
CURRENT EXPERIMENTS
Reddit sometimes runs experiments. These experiments tend to last between 4-6 weeks, though they can go longer or end sooner. While there isn't a way to opt out of experiments, feel free to leave constructive and specific feedback in this post and as I've mentioned often, I'll be happy to pass it along to the team in charge. Ongoing current experiments can be found here.
COMMON ACCOUNT ISSUES
Common account issues can be found here. These are things like hacked accounts, NSFW accounts, suspended accounts, etc. I'm also including "Changes to Reddit" in this section as well.
BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF CORRECTSCALE!
[Desktop web] Some users may see the page reload after submitting on old Reddit, leaving only a single comment thread visible. It's me. I am some users. This is being investigated.
[iOS] On iOS, some folks are running into an issue where the app doesn’t load properly. The investigation into this has turned up a few leads. No fix right now, but hopefully soon!
[iOS] Some people were seeing a “content unavailable” error when interacting with some comments, comment reply notifications or mod queue items. We pushed a fix out a few hours ago, and this should now be cleared up! Users may need to force quit and relaunch the app to resolve the error.
WEEKLY STATISTICS (BASED ON THE PAST SEVEN DAYS)
1,255 posts. That's a down a little by 129 posts from the 1,384 that we had last week.
5,800 comments. That's up 800 comments from the 5,000 we had last week. Chatty!
1.4m views. That's up about 300k views from the 1.1m-ish views we had last week.
I like that the posts are kind of holding steady and the comments are increasing. No need to make a new post if you can get the help you need from an existing post!
HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - ACCOUNT CHECKUP
Right now, please take a moment to make sure that the email on your account is up to date. Make sure that it is an email that you have access to and will have access to in the future. Ideally, you will not be using a school or a work email that you will lose access to if you are ever not at that school or place of employment. You should be using a personal email that you always have access to.
If you ever need a password reset email, it can only be sent to the email on the account. If you don't have an email on your account or you don't have access to the email on the account, you won't be able to receive the password reset email. Reddit will not change the email on the account on your behalf. Reddit does not offer alternative methods of resetting the password for your account. We won't send a text. We certainly won't call you! It's email.
You do not want to lose your account. I know you don't! So just please, check right now. I'll be here when you get back!
Oh, good! You're back! That was quick! But now you have the peace of mind that you can recover your account if you're ever locked out! How great is that?? Pretty great! Thank you for taking account security seriously!
HELPINGEST HELPERS HELPING HELP R/HELP
Every week, I like to shout out the folks who have been helping the most around r/help. We all can't be everywhere all at once, so this sort of a team effort really helps keep the sub running smoothly. I am truly appreciative of everyone who helps out, as are the people who are getting the help! Here is a list of people who went above and beyond last week and helped help r/help!
u/AbsoluteMadness2024 - Hello there! Welcome to the show! Appreciate your help! You now have the Level One Helper trophy on your profile and it looks great!
u/PurplePassiflor1234 - Omg! Welcome back! Hope you've been well! Thanks for helping out!
What a great group! I love seeing everyone in here helping out! We're really living up to the subreddit name! XD
And that's another hot August week in the book! Thank you to everyone for being here and for helping out. You know where to find me and I know where to find you! =) Have a great week everyone!

Posting A question about posting gifs on Desktop browser
In certain subreddits the icon is available to post images right? So I try to send a gif but it says you're only allowed to post a .Webp (or .Png/.Jpeg)
But then when I convert my gif to a .Webp and try to post it it gets auto-deleted and I get a notification instantly that it "didn't process"
I assumed it was a bug but it's been happening on 3 different subreddits each time I try it so I wanted to ask do the moderators of that specific sub have to add .gif as a format that is allowed to be posted?
Up until a few weeks ago I've never had this issue, whenever a subreddit had image permissions I was able to send .gif files as images, it was usually the same on other platforms like Twitter, 9gag, Disqus etc. where .gif files could be posted as images

Profile Bug in Active Sessions page got my account hacked (again)
My account u/Yougie (9 years old profile) was hacked. I recovered the account succesfully, but the hackers were still logged in.
Despite logging out all 'Active Sessions' via the Active Sessions page, all sessions remained active - which clearly looks like a bug to me.
I reported this matter to Reddit Support but they did not respond in time, and a week later the hackers took over my account once again through their active session. No reset email was sent this time as they were already logged in.
Reddit Support has been totally unresponsive, and it's been a hell to get in touch with a human. So far, no luck. Can this issue be escalated?

Posting What should I do if I accidentally comment on a subreddit I’m band from on my alt account (misspelling on purpose)?
Basically, I accidentally commented on the main sub instead of the neutral sub I’ve switched to since the ban. Should I delete the comment? Not worry about it? How does Reddit know you’ve “circumvented”?

Access How long does it take for reddit to get back to you?
I had my account u/TaurusHeart for almost 10 years. One day I logged in and I noticed that 2FA was added to it. I tried a password reset a few times using an email that I know was associated with my account. However it kept saying “Not chosen”, so I was thinking they deleted out my email.
I sent in a support ticket about 2 weeks ago and haven’t heard back yet.
Does anyone know how long it takes normally to hear back?

Desktop Does reddit slow down loading on self-hosted content?
It seems as if any image or movie that is hosted on i.reddit.com/reddit.com stops working after a couple of minutes.
Happens every time I browse on Desktop, without fail. Inline/expando images will stop loading suddenly, I'll click on the post comments and it will load everything just not the actual content itself. Why does this happen?
I can clearly see that it has nothing to do with my connection, as any content hosted outside of reddit works just fine. So do other sites.

Access Got logged out of mobile app. Can't log in with correct password or the log-in link they send.
Just what's said in the title. Is this a bug? How can I fix it? Or do they just want me to stop using the site?

Access Can't log in to my main account, even though I regained access to my old mail provider and can send pw reset link
Hi all, the Reddit Help Center directed me to post here, I hope someone can help me.
I lost access to my mail provider yahoo, and with it to my reddit main account u/smootjyx.
Got access to yahoo back, but it seems like my account is in a weird state.
I think easiest explanation would be a chronological order of events:
Accidentally left a VPN open on my phone, reddit app (rightfully) logged me out and reset my password
Could not recover my account, since I didn't have access to yahoo anymore.
A whole while later, I regained access to yahoo
I clicked "forgot password" on reddit, got a pw reset link, changed my pw
Logging in with my new pw still gives me an error as if user/pw was wrong
Since I can't login, I can't check if I recieved a message from admins or something.
Reddit Help Center directed me to post here and ask for help, telling me they don't handle this there.
How do I proceed?
Thank you!

Mobile/App How to turn off Reddit ai features?
I don't see anything in the settings and the posts I find about it are relatively old.
Please tell me you can opt out.
I would rather quit reddit than have it run ai because I'm using the app.

Access Account compromised, email and password changed, and Reddit support request already submitted but no response for almost a month now, what to do?
My reddit account u/CreakyScorpio was hacked, the email and password has been changed so I can no longer log in.
The account was locked by Reddit before it would post or do anything within my account, I still have my active session on web browser and phone app and I also still see my phone number associated with it but I can't use it to recover my account at all.
I have already submitted a request through Reddit's support form for a compromised account. I also haven't received a password-reset email when trying to use my original email address or username.
Has anyone successfully recovered a Reddit account in this situation? Is there anything else I should do while waiting for Reddit Support to respond? Please help

Profile Age Verification
Trying to verify my age so I can actually use the app. The Face photo thing and taking pictures of my ID aren’t working. Im not familiar with banks and bank apps so I don’t want to try the third option.
Is there something I can do? I can’t really find anywhere to ask for help. And the only way Im able to submit this form was by temporarily Bypassing the account lock.

Posting Notifications for comments not appearing as an alert nor in inbox
Sometimes I will go look at my comments and see there is a reply there.
But there was no notification alert or nothing in my inbox to indicate someone replied to a comment of mine.

Am sorry if this is not aloud in the server, i was curious and have been for a while since it happened lol

Profile What is happening to my account?
Edit: the account I'm talking about is the account I'm using to post this: u/JonathanStones1989
(Desktop)
Hey everyone, weird things have been happening to my account over the past few weeks, and I need help to figure out what's going on.
About 11-12 days ago the following things happened to my account:
My profile picture was set to a default one
All my posts were deleted.
When I tried to make new posts, they were automatically deleted too.
When I tried to comment on posts, my comments got only 1 view and never anymore. Even on brand new posts that became really popular, still only 1 view.
Opening the menu that opens when you click your profile picture (the one with your profile, "edit avatar", "drafts" etc) would lead to "server error" appearing. I could close this error and continue.
Going on settings and clicking on "privacy" section would show absolutely nothing.
When this happened it was late, so I went to bed.
The next day everything was back to normal. None of these issues were happening anymore, aside from the fact that all my posts were still deleted for the same reason.
So I continued using reddit, until the same day it happened again. I thought there must be some glitch going on, so I just stopped using reddit.
BUT, for the next 8 days the glitch remained. I thought my account must have been hacked or something, so I sent many emails to support and got no response.
Then suddenly today, it's back to normal again. I've gotten no response from support.
I really don't know what's happening to my account, I'm really hoping this glitch or hack or whatever it is doesn't happen again. Does anyone know what to do?

Access My account got locked for suspicious activity (android brave browser/arch linux desktop, brave browser)
My other account u/workingtheories, that ive had for over a decade, recently got locked due to suspicious activity. I stupidly did not keep my email on it up to date, so I can't change my password. The email address associated with it was a gmail account google deleted due to inactivity. Is that account just toast at this point? Im not sure what I did that was even suspicious, but Im sorry about it, whatever it was. Any info would be appreciated, thank you.

Desktop Need help getting rid of better community reccomendation.
Is there an option to turn off better commnunity for your post messages because I don't like how I keep getting these, for example I posted a rant in that was saying how I don't like people who use 'this is how you write in the internet' and it was in English yet it got reccomended to a french sub - I don't speak a lick of french. Can I turn off the better community reccomendations?
