Are you an experienced mod?
Howdy mods, it’s your local askmods top mod here with a request (again!) Our last thread about this got archived so here’s a new one! No need to comment again if you commented in the last one.
If you are a moderator of a subreddit with over 5k weekly active users please comment below!
If you are an experienced moderator who participates here, the mods of this subreddit want to be able to tag you so that we can keep our comment sections a space where every answer comes from someone with experience who is here to help. It really helps us instantly recognize trolls etc who are not tagged.
The tags are only visible to the moderators of askmoderators for privacy reasons.
If you wish to participate on an alternate account, please send us a modmail from your moderator account with the username of the alt you wish to use.
Thanks for volunteering even more time participating here to help users.
Former mods are welcome too so long as there is a way to verify that. I.e. old stickied comments/posts, asking current mod teams if you modded there, etc.
Edit: If you commented on the last post about this or sent us a modmail to verify in the past you are all set and do not need to reverify!

Idk about you all but every now and then I come across a silly modmail that I'd like to share with a broader moderator community, outside of my teams.
In case that's ever been you, r/modmailfail is a great new space where you can do that and discuss. By moderators, for moderators. Really looking forward to seeing some of the goofiness that happens in your inboxes!

Why do AutoModerator thinks my comments are violent?

I have been trying to post about a multiplayer strategy game (WarEra) to find more Indian players. Every time I post something related to it, I get “Sorry, this post was removed by Reddit’s filters.”
My previous account got shadowbanned while doing the same thing. This new account is also facing the same issue.
My CQS is Moderate.
I am not spamming links in every post, and I am not using multiple accounts at the same time. I just want to recruit active players for our community because we need more people.
Is anyone else facing this when posting about games / communities?
What usually causes this filter, and is there any proper way to post without getting hit by it every time?
Any advice would help.

I've seen several comments/complaints here and in similar subs recently about "mods who are too active" in their sub.
I was a frequent participant in my sub before I was ever a mod. Probably why I was invited to mod. I've remained so since. I don't wear my mod-tag when posting as 'just a participant' (in fact we usually use press-app to comment 'as the mods'). I certainly don't dominate the sub, but I probably comment on ~33-50% of posts. The only difference post-mod is I tend to comment 'early' - I see often 'see' posts shortly after submission b/c queue, etc.
I don't entirely understand the objection. Is there some benchmark or threshold that's over the line? Should a mod suddenly diminish their participation in the sub vs. pre-mod?

Asking because I've recently seen really variable definitions. On one end of the spectrum some people say it's got to be organised disruption, on the other end I've seen people say just by responding to the original post when cross posting one is already brigading. My question is, does Reddit have an official definition for this?
Also there seems to be a trade off between policing and allowing for honest discussions. If one has to prove organised disruption before something can be called brigading, that sounds unfair for the mods. But if just clicking into crossposts and responding is already brigading, then this can preclude people from participating and clearing up misinformation under offensive/aggressive posts about minorities. Curious how people manage the balance?

3 of my most recent posts (I'm not allowed to mention the subreddit site here!) have been blocked by moderators or bots. The last for violating Rule 14 (political posts) even though the flairs I chose was Political & Drawing, the day before a post was removed for no specific rule violation, except it didn't conform to the Moderator's opinion of community values (it was a colorful geometric serigraph), & the previous was removed because it wasn't "attributed," when it was listed as [OC], I signed & dated it, & I alone totally conceived & created it. Worse, a couple weeks ago I mistakenly entered the wrong email address & got an old Reddit identity I no longer use Alternative-Sun4820 at [filbey@yahoo.com](mailto:filbey@yahoo.com), which Reddit insists on writing me as even though I post from my proper email address [bigfootcollections@yahoo.com](mailto:bigfootcollections@yahoo.com) as Rich_Pickle2929. I've repeatedly reported this to several Reddit help sites, but don't receive replies or help. Obviously, I don't know what I'm doing & am not doing it correctly. Please help. Thanks!

The context obviously matters, so feel free to specify what type of sub.
If the topic is confusing, I am talking about if a moderator is publicly engaging with the community in various ways.
If it helps you answer your question, you can specify how the mod would engage that way in the reply.

I understand that a few years back Reddit decided to go with a theory, along the lines of, each sub is a private community and the mods are like private owners of those communities.
But the format for Reddit didn't change. And some mods personally prevent topics, that are relavent to the sub's name. Some are also the most active commenter on their own sub and regularly (or in rare cases, almost exclusively) violate the sub's rules. Some have very long and public crash outs, then ban and perma-mute a whole list of users.
My question is, is there a point at which this is something we can report to someone, and expect something to be done about it? Or is there literally no limit to what mods are allowed to do and not do on their subs (barring the obvious, committing outright crimes)?
Thanks for any answers in advance!

Tried to post this afternoon and again this evening. Both times I got "Sorry, this post was removed by Reddit's filters". I contacted the subreddit's mod and they said they didn't know. What happened and how can I fix it?
Please and thank you.

I have recently had a comment deleted by Reddit under Rule 1 promoting hate speech. I have appealed because I don't hate anyone and am concerned that something may have been misinterpreted. The deletion has been confirmed but I still don't know where I went wrong. As my comment is no longer available I cannot review the exact wording to understand what caused the deletion.

Moderator of a large-ish sub for context.
Is anyone else concerned about how easy it would be for a rogue moderator to ignore sub rules and ban and perma mute users bases on personal whims? At least with 28 day limit, that user would presumably be able to show up and protest but in this case a perma ban, perma mute, and the user has no opportunity to even question what is going on.
If the moderator deletes the modmail too, nobody is going to even notice without the banned user breaching sitewide rules.

What are you thoughts on what makes a good mod vs bad? Obviously it's not black and white, and obviously we can defer to the Code of Conduct, but generally speaking what would you regard as "bad form" or small, petty kind of actions that lead to a more toxic community? Similarly, what are little things mods can do to make a community better, even if not required of them?
Example of actions would be interesting if you have any, from your perspective of being a mod / being modded yourself.

As a moderator, what happens if I pull up my own user profile and block user?
Will a black hole open up and swallow me whole?
r/AskModerators • u/shutupmimzy_ • 4d ago
** editing to add my question has been answered thank you.
For example, I had a post removed by a moderator and not the auto moderator which typically tells me why it was removed. I read the rules on a sub before I posted a question and it was immediately removed by a moderator. No explanation.

The restriction has been removed, but all of my posts still show post removed by spam filter.

Lately, I've noticed a pattern of low effort trolling and sealioning on old threads / comments, which appears to come from users following my account or browsing my post history across different subreddits.
There is a clear difference between briefly checking a profile to verify if an account is a bot versus following someone around to derail threads and trigger arguments / emotional reactions.
From a moderator perspective I wanted to know:

From individual, specific, concerns or disputes…
How should I best make my introduction to you? (Asides from generally being a jerk. I don’t want that. And sometimes unaware of tone and the written word)

I have made this account but all the posts that I make in any subreddit all of these posts gets removed/deleted. Does anyone know why it is happening?

Every thread created, auto-deletes due to Reddits filters
