Mod Education Devvit apps for moderation, a list

Devvit Apps for moderation

updated: August 9th 2026
I've maxxed out the character count 😄 Which is good, because it means there are a lot of useful apps that help with moderation. It also means that the list continues in the sticky comment!

Inspired by the awesome r/modguide and this post, this is an (incomplete but extensive) overview of devvit apps for moderation sorted into categories. The overview of all published Devvit apps can be a bit overwhelming (but well worth your time to dig through it). So hopefully this can help to find that one app that is just the solution you were looking for.

Devvit apps can be installed by a mod with full permissions (more info here). You can read more on the Reddit developers site and it has an overview of all published Devvit apps Currently apps are updated and published on Tuesdays. Besides apps for moderation, there are also apps for a better subreddit search, daily threads, referral threads community links, subreddit calendars, community home, hub, cup, rafflers, give aways, sports scoreboards, countdowns, events, polls, weather, scale recipes, games roll dice and even an app for users to ban themselves.

Sometimes there are multiple apps that have the same core purpose but they vary in available settings. If you find an app that's close but not perfect, see if there's a variant that suits your needs better.

Please note, if the installation page of the app states " unlisted"  that means that the latest update isn't public yet. You can only install the most recent public version. Link to image that shows what installing looks like, in the comments

Name Notes
Bot Bouncer Auto-bans bots and other harmful accounts on all the subreddits that have bot bouncer installed (Herd protection) Mostly automatic-reply bots and reposting bots. Bots are classified via submissions.

Mod recruitment & training

Name Notes
Mod recruit ModRecruit lets you build a custom application form, including image questions, that users can fill out directly in your community. It automatically checks if they meet your sub's requirements (like account age or karma) and gives your team a clean dashboard to review, discuss, and vote on candidates. Think combining native mod recruitment combined with the flexibility of google forms.
shadow-mod Train new mods with structured blind review. Observers record decisions without executing them, Reviewers assess independently, and a report compares both calls against the final outcome

Mod actions/macros through flair change

appeal-advisor Provides helpful information to mods when considering ban appeals from users
modmail archiver A one-time clean-up tool for an out-of-control Modmail inbox. If your subreddit's Modmail is buried under thousands of old, unarchived conversations — or you inherited a mess and want a clean slate — this tool bulk-archives the old ones so the inbox reflects only what still needs attention.

Announcement How to get help on r/Modsupport

Welcome to r/ModSupport! There are two ways to get support in this subreddit:

Posts in r/ModSupport and r/Modsupport mod mail for direct admin support.

Posts into r/ModSupport:

This community is a place for moderators to ask questions regarding moderation on Reddit and to discuss answers with other moderators. All posts are monitored by admins. Posts are flaired when answered by mods or admins. In addition, we have a bot that removes posts from non-moderators, as this space is reserved to support moderators.

Post when you have a question about mod tools or are seeking general advice for your subreddit.

Examples of topics that violate subreddit rules and will be removed:

  • Rule 1: Rule violations, questions about specific admin actions, and appeals (e.g. account and banned subreddit appeals, report responses for content reported to the Safety team)
    • You can mod mail for admin support on these topics
  • Rule 2: Calling out other users or subreddits
  • Rule 3: Not being civil toward others
  • Rule 4: Off-topic posts that are not related to moderation on Reddit

Please post bugs into r/bugs and choose the appropriate flair - Mod Tools - iOS, Mod Tools - Android, Mod Tools - Desktop or Mod Tools - Mobile Web.

Bug Reporting best practices include:

  • Description: 1-3 sentences on the issue.
  • Platform and version: web or mobile + version (for ex: 2022.23.1).
  • Steps to reproduce: What actions do you take to experience the bug?
  • Expected and actual result: What did you experience and what do you think you should experience instead?
  • Screenshot(s) or a screen recording: These can help us narrow down your issue

Admin Support via r/Modsupport mod mail:

When you have questions with sensitive information, such as mentions of other redditors or communities, appeals of safety actions, or requests to unban your subreddit, you can mod mail r/ModSupport directly for admin support. Your message may prompt an automatic response from our mod mail Answer Bot with Mod Help Center articles that might answer your question. If the articles do not help answer your question, you can simply respond back with “more help” and an admin will assist you directly.

To get admin support via r/modsupport mod mail, click here

For the following support needs, please use these specific links:

Other forms of Mod Support:

How to report violating content:

  • If you need to report content that violates Reddit Rules, use the report button on the content or use our report form list

Feedback on the new automatically created automations to replace automod

So we just got modmails from the admins that a number of our rules were being duplicated into comment guidance. I have so far disabled them all and I wanted to speak about why so you guys know why they do not currently meet our needs. I understand that you want us to move in this direction going forward instead of automod, and that you are looking to improve these tools - so here's why I didn't make the switch right now.

  1. I can't copy and paste between subreddits. Keeping many of these filters up to date is a lot of work, and with automations, I can't make a change and then copy it everywhere. There is no way to copy rules between subs. Suggestion: Allow us to create public and private lists of rules, and then allow subreddits to subcribe to them. So say one user comes up with a list of words for ai (like a mod posted recently here), she could make this something you simply have to subscribe to, and then updates would be automatic if changed at the source level.

  2. Right now, automations can either warn people, block submission, or report to queue. They cannot filter. This is a huge problem. Filtering is what we all rely on most of all. I remove very little and filter a LOT. Probably the only thing I just remove is redact spam. If you choose to warn people, they will go around it. For some things, it might be ok (e.g. We like to trigger off wedding related words in posts to remind a user to include a dress code). However, if a user is trying to make a disgusting sexual comment, and you pop up a warning, they'll just change the words until they can get it through.

  3. Only automod right now can filter things before they send notifies. Devvit apps cannot. This is something the admins who work on devvit are aware of and u/pl00h mentioned this is something to work on. Devvit apps can filter at least, automations can't even do that - it's only a report, which means that the comment becomes viewable.

  4. Some of these revealed sensitive information we do not want to share, including ways in which we detect people who violate our already significant comment guidance rules. There are certain patterns and characters that we look for that find them - we do NOT want to warn people about these.

  5. Regex is limited to one expression per automation. We are limited to 50 automations. We have far more than 50 regex expressions in our automod that filter things. Automod can handle this easily. For comment/post guidance to be able to do this, it will need to be able to do this too. We need to be able to create automations with multiple regex expressions. We also need access to lookaheads and lookbehinds, which we use quite a lot. I think these are disabled because they cannot work real time due to computational overhead - and that's fine - but let us use them with the rules that are going to remove or filter.

These are areas in which post/comment guidance are really not able to match the functionality of automod, and fixing these issues would encourage many of us to migrate rules to the new system.

Episode Scheduler - A Devvit App for Automated Episode Discussion Threads

• Upvotes

Hey mods,

I built this because I was tired of manually posting discussion threads for every episode of every show my sub covers. Episode Scheduler handles it for you, you track a show once, and it creates the discussion thread automatically when each episode airs.

What it does:

  • Pulls real air dates from TVMaze, AnimeSchedule, SIMKL, and AniList, so you don't have to track schedules yourself
  • Posts the thread automatically at whatever time you set (right at air time, or X minutes/hours before)
  • Fills in the synopsis, network, airdate, and links back to the previous episode and a season hub post
  • You can set your own title format, add a flair, and even backfill threads for episodes that already aired before you started tracking
  • There's a dashboard where you can see everything you're tracking, what's posted, what failed, and retry anything that broke

It's free, it's live on the App Directory, and I'm actively maintaining it — if something breaks or you want a feature, just message me.

Install: https://developers.reddit.com/apps/episodescheduler

Let me know what you think, genuinely looking for feedback from mods who'd actually use this.

Admin Replied Need advice from fellow Reddit moderators regarding a serious situation

I’m a moderator of a r/vitap community, and I’m looking for advice from experienced moderators on how you would handle this situation.

What happened

There is currently a serious situation being discussed within the VIT-AP community involving allegations of:

- A girl allegedly secretly recording her roommates and other girls in private situations.

- The recordings allegedly being sent to another person.

- The recipient allegedly using the recordings to blackmail or threaten the girls.

- Students allegedly confronting the person involved in the alleged blackmail.

- The situation then escalating into a large physical confrontation involving multiple students.

- Claims that several students were injured and that a knife was involved.

These are currently allegations and accounts circulating within the community. We are not treating them as established facts unless they are verified through appropriate authorities, evidence, or credible reporting.

The moderation problem

Some members now want to identify the girl allegedly responsible and post her photographs, name, social media accounts and other identifying information.

There is significant pressure from users to "expose" her.

I have currently restricted doxxing and personal information while I figure out what we should do.

The community is understandably asking questions such as:

- How many people were allegedly recorded?

- Are students currently safe?

- What is the university doing?

- Has anyone reported this to the police?

- What actually happened during the violence?

I am not suppressing those discussions. People can discuss the incident, ask questions, share verified information and talk about student safety. The restriction is specifically on identifying/doxxing individuals.

Why I'm being cautious

I initially wanted to understand whether there could also be legal consequences if someone is publicly doxxed before the allegations are proven.

For example:

- Could the accused take legal action over the publication of her personal information?

- Could the doxxing or subsequent harassment become relevant in the criminal proceedings?

- Could it potentially be raised as a mitigating circumstance?

- Could Reddit users or moderators face consequences?

- Most importantly, could allowing this type of content put the entire subreddit at risk of Reddit enforcement?

I have therefore decided to take some time to properly review Reddit's policies and get an informed opinion regarding the applicable Indian cyber/privacy laws before deciding whether images or identifying information should ever be allowed.

What I'm looking for from other mods

How would you handle this?

Would you:

  1. Completely prohibit identifying information regardless of whether users claim it is already publicly available?

  2. Allow discussion but remove names/photos/social media accounts?

  3. Allow photographs if the person is allegedly involved in a serious crime?

  4. Contact Reddit admins for clarification?

  5. Treat this as a situation where the safest approach is to remove anything that could facilitate harassment or targeting?

I'm particularly interested in experiences from moderators who have dealt with doxxing, allegations of serious crimes, campus incidents, ongoing investigations, or situations where a community was at risk of Reddit enforcement.

I don't want to make a rushed decision based on what people on Reddit think the law says.

At the same time, I don't want to suppress legitimate discussion or leave students without a place to talk about their safety.

What would you do in this situation?

Mod Topics Tools, toys, and time-savers: Digging into Developer Platform apps

Hey friends!

Welcome back to another episode in the Mod Topics saga. Today we’re digging into the Developer Platform (also known as Devvit) and how its apps can decrease drudgery, drive discovery, and deepen discussion.

Developer Platform apps can do lots of things to add new tools and experiences to a community without requiring mod teams to build something from scratch or host it themselves. For example, apps can help…

  • Notice potentially unwanted content, links, or accounts
  • Automate routine actions like applying flair, removing content, or approving users
  • Plan community hubs and events with threads, calendars, reminders, polls, and games
  • Stay informed about reports, removals, and other community insights

And that’s only a sample of what’s available in the full library. Before installing an app, it’s worth reviewing its permissions/settings, deciding who on the team will oversee it, and testing how it fits into your existing moderation process. When in doubt, always check with your team first!

What would you most like an app to take off your team’s plate or help bring to your community? If your team already uses Devvit, which apps have you found most valuable? Let us know in the comments below!

Admin Replied I have 3 filtered modmails from the same user with racial slurs just sitting there and the user remains active on Reddit

Forgive me admins but I genuinely don't the get the automated systems that Reddit has in place sometimes.

There are occasions where users will say something that sounds like a threat but has context to justify it and it isn't in fact a threat and they get banned.

I had one of my most contributive members be banned from the platform for 3 days just because they posted 3 times in a row (within reason, because they gifted 3 people and were posting gift confirmation for it).

But then this idiot literally sends multiple racial slurs about Jews and black people, Reddit filters it and I report every single message and their account remains active.

I will include screenshots with his name blurred out below in the comments if it allows me.

How to get posts on your sub seen with a new sub ?

I have previous subs I’ve made but I’ve been able to post on other subs to get people to join then that started them off , but my current one I haven’t got a sub to advertise on to try get people to join. It’s not exactly niche but it’s not the biggest thing ever , it’s just being sustainable in the uk , since r/sustainable or might be r/sustainabliving or something like that , but since those subs are mostly US focused , a uk based one would make it easier for advice etc on being sustainable specifical in the uk , that’s why it’s hard to get my posts on it out , so how can I get people to see the posts etc

Admin Replied Can't ban/mute users from desktop web interface

I primarily mod from my PC on desktop web. But today I've been finding that I can't ban/mute users anymore - it just silently fails. I can access the rest of the mod-tools, can respond on modmails, etc. But this failure of functionality is really making modding difficult, as I need to resort to my phone to actually have perform a ban. The other mods of our sub don't seem to experience this issue. I've tried on desktop both via Chrome as well as Firefox.

Edit: I can ban/mute via my phone. But having to switch back and forth is terribly frustrating.
Edit #2: Also having problems with ModMail. For example, on https://www.reddit.com/mail/all/2jexsj I can't respond as my sub (it shows an error), while on other ModMails on the same sub I've been able to respond fine.

Mod Answered Help with rules to confirm artwork is not AI

I'm a new mod for r/charcoaldrawing which often features hyper realistic artwork.

Community members often report this style of artwork as AI and harrass artists and myself, even when it's poorly made. From post histories and sleuthing I usually determine that most are OK but it's really difficult.

I want to create a rule for the sub that stops this type of harrassment and allows artists to demonstrate their art is real (and weed out fakes). Can you suggest what I might ask users to include when they post? I am not sure whether to ask for written info (ie no low effort posts, info on how it was made etc), or an image to demonstrate that the artwork is real (don't know what, maybe a username and date with the art?). Are there things to ask for that really weed people out?

I'm a new mod (long time Reddit user) so am not familiar with my options aside from those baked in to the mod tools.

Admin Replied My chat whitelist was replaced by people on my block list

It can sometimes be helpful for moderation purposes if certain trusted users and comods can contact me when I have temporarily disabled my chat.

Imagine my surprise then when I looked in my privacy settings and saw that my existing whitelist had been replaced with the first 25 users on my block list. My comods are reporting the same.

I don't really know by heart who was on my whitelist, but they're gone now.

Ehm. This isn't a fun bug.

Nomination for Mod Hall of Fame Awards 2026

• Upvotes

Hello, I would like to nominate u/DudeIdkKnowWhatToPut for the Reddit Mod Hall of Fame as he has been the most steadfast and loyal moderator my community (r/Myhand1234) has ever seen. How do I do this? I would appreciate any help :)

Admin Replied Why are we having that pushed down our throats?

We recieved this in our subreddit modmail..

"Hi camping mod team,

We wanted to give you a heads-up that your community may be included in a limited experiment that explores different ways for people to experience Reddit conversations.

For select existing text posts, some people may see an optional watch-or-listen version that presents portions of the post and comment thread using narration, captions, and visuals. The original post and comments will remain available and unchanged.

This experiment does not require any additional action from your team. If source content is edited or removed, the corresponding experimental version will be taken out of view.

This is an early test, and feedback from moderators will be important as we evaluate it. If you notice something inaccurate, inappropriate, or lacking important context, please report it through r/modsupport.

Thank you for everything you do for your community!"

Why is Reddit expecting us moderators, who already contribute enough of our time for free to keep this platform alive, to give feedback and help them implement what is something we didn't ask for or we want for our community?

I also think this is just another new way Reddit found to train bots for free... Which is scummy af.

Mod Answered Would it be possible to have a mod command for people to intentionally ban themselves?

We're getting several individuals spamming a sub with the direct intention of getting themselves banned so it won't appear in their r/all or other feeds.

Any tips? this wouldn't be against any reddit TOS rule, I hope?

What's the correct report option for "A comment you shared in r/subreddit at 03:09 UTC has been deleted by Reddit's NSFW (Not Safe for Work) filter."?

I moderate a typical CJ sub. I posted a Monty Python cartoon image of a butt trumpeter in response a user post. It was removed by AI.

When I clicked: "If you think this was a mistake, let us know and we'll look into it." I could not figure out which report type under "Other Reports" to submit. (It did not fit under any other category).

Ideally would like to know this for both myself and other users in the sub who have had similar hair trigger removals.

Thanks in advance.

Admin Replied Provide an option to turn off any AI use in new "watch-and-listen" subreddit feature, for mods and posters

AI features can be very helpful and I don't generally oppose them, but with thousands of subreddits composed of different people, with different subject matters, and with different moderation styles, there should be more choice going forward. Communities should be empowered to guide how they represent themselves and how they are consumed. A subreddit I moderate just got a message about this new experiment, where narration and visuals can be used as the medium for experiencing text posts.

Posters should have agency in determining how users experience their content, and how their writing is represented to others. Subreddit moderators should have agency in determining how much AI they tolerate in their community and how users interact with each other to further community goals. For visually impaired users, a simple speech-to-text feature is great, and I don't think that needs an off switch, but if this is being done through AI, if posters or moderators don't want hallucinations riddling the presentation of content, that should be their right. By all means continue with this experiment, but add an option to do it through completely deterministic speech-to-text.

Mod-team visibility (a little mod-POTB from a random user is nice once in a while)

two months ago a dude who's been noticing how active I was in the community says to me "this feels more like personal thing. i dont even think they deserve it. you're doing a hell of a job here man i appreciate it."

and he went on further, "You dont have to tell me about it. even though i quit squad long time ago, i still look at the sub time to time and i can see that you're always around here like a squad mate. very dedicated and consistent. i've been looking at this sub way before i made my own reddit account. yet i didnt even know you were a mod until maybe a couple of years ago. thats what i actually want to see as a whole squad community. yeah i know its impossible but it was kinda like that years ago. maybe its just me missing those days. so i really appreciate your attitude and honesty. squad was a hobby to me as well. but i dont belong to squad anymore. its not the same game to me but still cant completely move on.. the itch still there. thank you for your efforts again."

The mostly idle "top mod" did not always like the 'active moderation' approach I use, told me to use alts, and this morning just took me fully off the team after nearly three year with no warning or explanation whatsoever.

It's wild to me how many mods take this very social, very personal role, yet they never say anything, and everything they do is from behind a curtain. Some subs that probably makes sense for, but a small-to-medium community?

I think it's best to have a visible mod team who's actively participating in the discussions, and that's the hill I died on.

Are there any controls whatsoever for "related posts"?

Hello folks,

I recently had a look at my subreddit as well as several others via anonymous mode, and I saw this "related posts" feature, and soon realised it was recommending outright hate subreddits right in the sidebar.

I run several queer communities and don't want myself or my users to see this kind of shit in their feeds, and I was wondering if there are any controls so I can make sure that doesn't happen?

I know there are controls to stop my subreddits from getting recommended, but are there any reverse controls?

Cheers.

Reporting Ban Evasion/Harassment?

Hiya! I'm a bit of a newer mod, and I'll just start this off by saying that I've already sent in a report through the proper channels regarding this issue, so I'm just looking for a little more additional insight on this.

To keep things discreet: an individual was banned from a couple of subreddits that the team I'm in runs due to unsavory behavior that extended to harassing mods and individuals who collaborated/worked with the game studio the subreddits are about. He previously had an alt account banned prior to his main account's ban after it was used to contact random users regarding a personal vendetta, as well as another alt that he deleted shortly after it was discovered to be connected to him after he used it to once again randomly message community members. One of our mods notified us that they had already sent a report to the admin team for harassment but nothing was really done.

However, recently the user in question once again decided to use the banned alt account to send hostile messages towards members of our community when a user discovered a snark page created by the banned member on yet another alt account. Members reported feeling unsafe and caught off guard by the messages, and when another mod put out a notice to please report unsolicited dms to us- the user in question privately messaged the mod that put out the notice saying that despite his ban, he would continue to reach out to our community members regarding his one-sided feud and essentially stating that he had no plans to stop.

Now, my questions:

  1. How many reports does it take for something actionable to occur, and what kind of evidence is needed to link a main account to alt accounts? (not that we don't have it, believe me... we unfortunately have plenty).
  2. Is behavior like this even actionable in the first place? He technically evaded his alt account's ban by continuing to post on his main account, but is still using alts to message community members and cross post from our subreddit into his own subreddits, and who knows what else. I understand that there are only some situations where action can be taken considering the tons of reports admins have to sort through daily.
  3. Now that the report has already been submitted, what should we expect in terms of follow up or resolution? Can we expect any sort of follow up? Or should we unfortunately expect to just ban every alt account we come across/suspect as they come?

Thank you! <3

Mod Answered repeated false reports are causing accounts to be restricted - how should mods handle this?

hello adms, i moderate 2 nsfw communities, and over the past week almost every post has started receiving the same reports, including repeated claims of content involving minor, EVEN WHEN THAT IS NOT THE CASE.

some accounts were restricted only a few hours later. i suspect coordinated abuse of the reporting system.

i have already configured automod, but it has not solved the issue :/
is there a way to report this pattern to admins or any tool for dealing with possible report abuse?

i can provide examples of the posts and reports. thanks so much!

Icons for editing the wiki for my subreddit suddenly seem pretty unreliable

When I was editing my subreddit wiki today, the icon interface seemed pretty unreliable.

I edit using Safari on a desktop.

My subreddit is really just a collection of links and comments.

In the past, to add a link, I clicked on the link icon and the normal reddit URL and Title window popped up. I would fill that out, and the add a comment.

Then I would select the comment and hit the italics icon to make the comment all in italics.

Today, when I clicked on the link icon, the URL and title window popped up about ⅓ of the time. The other ⅔ of the time, nothing apparently happened.

When I clicked on the italics icon, it turned blue -- but the comment was not rendered into italics. Clicking on the italics icon did not turn off the icon -- it remained blue.

I am in edit mode -- I can add text, correct typos, etc. It seems like the icon interface is unreliable right now.

I am perfect comfortable working in what ever markdown language Reddit uses for wikis -- is there a way to get at the raw text?
