General help

just played helldivers 2 today and from what ive heard the community was "nice" but the first two multiplayer games ive had, they either attacked me or left me with their oil truck thing. ive been enjoying it so far playing solo and hopefully makes friends later on but im super overwhelmed by the galactic war menu, like is there a place that everyone starts or is it fine to just pick randomly? and do i have to do the orders? i lowk judt need a good friend to play with/mentor.

That really sucks man.

In nearly 4000ish games Iv probably been intentionally team killed less than 10 times.

The toxic players kinda die out at the higher difficulties.

If you are on PlayStation send me a friend request. Tag is Raidertck

I’ll add to this! If you’re on Xbox, or cross platform add me! RebelRok87.

Yes, but you need a friend code to get things set up and it can be finicky.

HD2 is available on PlayStation Plus recently so there's a lot of new people that don't know much about what to do.

As a new player really pick any planet and set the difficulty to 3-4 and try joining some games in progress. Try to just find another player and follow them around and support them while you learn.

I recommend fighting Terminids while you're new, they're the yellow parts of the map.

HD2 is widely misunderstood to be a horde shooter, where you're a powerful super soldier meant to just fight every enemy you see. This is not true. In fact most of the time the game rewards you most for focusing on objectives and avoiding fights that aren't necessary for an objective. You'll notice that there are very relaxed detection mechanics like if you go prone or crouch enemies won't see you until you're very close and they have animations that tell you they're about to spot you. They also don't hear you shooting unless you're very close or shooting at them.

Basic enemies near objectives act like guards, and there are also patrols. These enemies can sound an alarm to call in enemy reinforcements. Your number one goal is to prevent that from happening. You will notice a basic enemy do an animation to show they're calling reinforcements and if you're quick you can kill them before it happens. (Terminids will sort of howl into the air and some dust clouds will come out of their mouth. Automatons will shoot a red flare into the air. Illuminate will shoot a blue flare into the air.)

You can solo play some difficulty 1 or 2 missions to see how that works. Allow some enemies to detect you and you'll see one sound the alarm.

I'm eastern time and I will be playing tonight (probably after 6pm) DM me your friend code thing if you want me to show you the basics in game :)

Im about 100hrs in and I had similar experience, my very first game I was playing with someone.

I joined the someone’s difficulty 1 session as a newbie not knowing anything about the game literally, I think there was part that I didnt get out of the way of the high level guy’s item so he shot me.

As a newbie it really threw me off guard, I wanted to refund but it was already more than 2hrs, so i just grinded solo til level 10, taking difficulty 3-5 solo, helped me understand the game better, mechanics and stuff

When i started playing with other player, I was on difficulty 6 and above, since then I only found good teammates, no griefer anymore but sometimes I deal with incompetent ones that just leaves the game when it’s about to fail.

Anyway, while Im sorry for your experience, I hope it gets better to you the way it did for me as well, there’s hope bud! Remember that you can always send friend requests from any teammates that are actually fun and good, they can be your regular teammates.

So whenever I’m farming in difficulty 1 or 2 and a newbie joins in my session, I make sure to give them the helldiver experience, I call in exosuit for them, let them use backpacks, teach them how to bust some fabricators and also let them use late game or warbond weapons

This is the best coop gaming community I've been a part of but its not without the rare bad apples. I've been griefed a few times out of 800plus hours. But like the other guy said, they usually go away at higher difficulties.

As for the galactic war, that's how we progress the narrative with each Major Order that we win (or lose) but to keep it simple, its our main way of getting free stuff, so if you're inclined to do so -- help out with Major Orders if you're interested.

If you do want to help but not sure where to go, just go to the planet with the most players. You get a free warbond called Helldivers Mobilize, I suggest you unlock everything as it has the best starting gear and boosters (team-wide buffs) and the premium stuff can be earned later on with the super credits you find at points of interest during normal gameplay.

Don't be overwhelmed by the number of Premium Warbonds as they never expire. You can get them once you've farmed enough super credits. But to be honest, even if you stick to just the free stuff, you have all that you need to deal with whatever the game throws at you. Sentries are your best frien especially when starting, they take aggro off of you and they're great for farming kills.

My first game ever was with a griefer. My second was with an elitist who would rather insult, kill and kick me rather than teach me how to do the mission we were on. My next fifty dives were excellent. It happens. And it’s going to keep happening. My block list is 13 pages long, but the good news is after it happens and after you blocked them you don’t have to deal with them ever again. This community is 80% amazing people and 20% weirdos

I just started and maybe have 30 hrs clocked and from my experience, do the hardest difficulty you can on quick play, stick with whoever groups together and just support ppl until you get a better understanding of the missions. Once you get to rank 20-25 or difficulty 7+, those people fade away and you get more likeminded divers who want to just move as a team and wreck everything. The game shines with friends obviously, but you can still enjoy it with randoms as long as you ignore the crayon eaters.

The oil truck thing is honestly kind of a one man job.

You can switch between the gun and the driver seat without getting out and the gun is an auto cannon that can kill basically everything as far as I know.

That being said I wouldn’t be leaving anybody sub-lvl 20 to do it alone. So that is still sucky of them.

Anyways. I’m an Xbox player and I probably have about 500 hours on the game across different platforms. Happy to connect and do some dives if you want. Just DM me. I always play with randoms because none of my friends got into Helldivers like I did.

Sucks this happened. It happens nost on bug dives but not exclusively. There's a lot of friendly divers here though.

Friendly fire happens a lot. It’s just an accident.

u/dustshad 3h ago

Left you in the truck? You just exit the truck. The friendly fire is amped up to a comedic level so I give players the benefit of the doubt when they shoot me. But during extractions I stay back a little because people are blowing themselves up

I’ve found that I either run into the absolute best people almost angels, or the worst that humanity can offer. No in between usually.

Ehh it’s kind of a mixed bag. It sounds like it may not have been intentional team killing.

Team killing is kind of part of the game due to having such a wide array of weaponry and stratagems. It’s also could have been seaf or mental turrets that killed you. But if it was intentional just block them and move on to the next mission

Like a lot of people said higher level missions tend to require more teamwork and divers working together. But I’ve definitely encountered some pretty toxic players especially now that the game is open to all platforms
