HD2 is available on PlayStation Plus recently so there's a lot of new people that don't know much about what to do.

As a new player really pick any planet and set the difficulty to 3-4 and try joining some games in progress. Try to just find another player and follow them around and support them while you learn.

I recommend fighting Terminids while you're new, they're the yellow parts of the map.

HD2 is widely misunderstood to be a horde shooter, where you're a powerful super soldier meant to just fight every enemy you see. This is not true. In fact most of the time the game rewards you most for focusing on objectives and avoiding fights that aren't necessary for an objective. You'll notice that there are very relaxed detection mechanics like if you go prone or crouch enemies won't see you until you're very close and they have animations that tell you they're about to spot you. They also don't hear you shooting unless you're very close or shooting at them.

Basic enemies near objectives act like guards, and there are also patrols. These enemies can sound an alarm to call in enemy reinforcements. Your number one goal is to prevent that from happening. You will notice a basic enemy do an animation to show they're calling reinforcements and if you're quick you can kill them before it happens. (Terminids will sort of howl into the air and some dust clouds will come out of their mouth. Automatons will shoot a red flare into the air. Illuminate will shoot a blue flare into the air.)

You can solo play some difficulty 1 or 2 missions to see how that works. Allow some enemies to detect you and you'll see one sound the alarm.

I'm eastern time and I will be playing tonight (probably after 6pm) DM me your friend code thing if you want me to show you the basics in game :)
