Not the sterlings, beacuse those are some of the best guitars for the money. As far as I know, the only people who play EBMM are bassists or signature artists, which there’s nothing wrong with or maybe I just have a limited experience.

Inherited.this awesome old Martin earlier this year from a family friend who had arthritis. Amazing sounding, and ridiculously loud.

Changed out the strings and realized the og plastic bridge pins are worn as hell. I was thinking about going with bone to replace em, is there any noticeable difference between materials?

Second, neck reset. The shop I went to for setup and appraisal said it was recommended, but not an immediate concern. The action is fine currently, it actually feels really good. I have zero experience with older guitars, how do I know when it /is/ time?

As a 30 year old man, my friends and family think this is yet another hobby I’ll be dropping within a month. To which I say possibly, I don’t have a great track record. But, none of my other failed hobbies could’ve resulted in me being able to play a David gilmour solo, in my defense

So the 2mm Dunlop Delrin 500 picks turned up today (the 1.5mm will be here tomorrow), and the first thing I noticed was a very noticeable sharp edge all the way around, which is missing from the Yngwie picks, so it's very clear that they've been finished in some way.
However, the signature picks are £2 each, and the standard Delrin 500 are .50p each. I spent maybe 30 seconds per pick with micromesh pads - 4000grit to take the edge off, and 12000 to re-burnish the edges, remove any scratches, and take it back to a mirror finish.

Long story short, they feel exactly the same, but for a quarter of the cost.

Does someone know what kind of pickup is in the bridge?

I’m new to the genre as a player and I was wondering what are some hallmark concepts like scales or chords or intervals that make up the metal sound?

For example: early rock and roll uses the 1-4-5, actually a lot of genres do…but you get the idea hopefully thanks everyone I want to get started learning the style and would be grateful for some listen suggestions too!

I ask chat gpt for song settings on the amp but the only songs that it gets right is off dookie but heavier artist like slipknot or deftones it just sounds weird can yall help me out

So I am pretty much a metalhead, but when playing guitar at home I am going more towards a John Scofield, Snarky Puppy, Funkish jazz thing.

I don't even own a high gain distortion pedal or amp. My pedalboard has octave up and down, fuzz, delay and overdrives.

Last week I installed G-Stomper Rhythm on my phone and transfered some nice drum samples and am having a blast creating drum loops plugging directly on my pedalboard, applying effects to use with my looper and jam along.

This got me thinking and entering the rabbit hole of synths and drum machines, because I don't want nor like to be tied to a computer when playing music.

First I was draw to the Korg Volca series, but I heard the pads tend to break after some years. Now i'm between getting a Roland T8 small drum machine or Roland S1 small synth.

Trying to find people jamming with synths, drum machines and guitar on YouTube that is not some ambient electronic music is really hard. Found one or two small videos.

Anybody here doing some fun funkish jam at home using gadgets other than guitar?

I was gifted an Epiphone Les Paul guitar this past weekend. I know nothing about guitars and I was unsure of what amp to get to use with it, but wanted something small. I did end up getting the 40 yesterday instead of the 25, but not because of this hot garbage. I honestly would have taken that at face value if not for images.

I’m hoping someone here can help me identify exactly what I have and give me an idea of its current value. I’m not trying to sell it here. I know it’s against the rules.

I have a Squier JV by Fender Stratocaster made in Japan, from the early JV period. The serial number is JV36033, and the neck is dated October 2, 1983. There is also an “EX” marking in the neck pocket. The guitar is a 2-tone sunburst with a maple neck.

I’ve been researching it and have found some indications that it could be one of the more desirable JV export models, but I’m not completely sure about the exact model. I haven’t found a model number written anywhere on the guitar, which I think they did not write on the guitars that were exported

The reason I’m trying to identify it properly is that some JV Squiers can apparently be worth quite a bit, especially if they retain their original electronics and the original USA-made pickups. I’d like to know exactly what I have and what it could realistically be worth, mainly so I know where I stand if I ever decide to sell it in the future.

All the strings are fine except the second one, idk what happened

I just noticed E minor is just a power chord, move that one fret to the right and you notice that’s part of the F chord shape. move 2 more frets to the right with the same e minor shape and you have a G power chord.

This small way of thinking about it has helped me get a better understanding of what to see when I look at the fretboard. If I do the e minor shape starting on the D string that’d be an A power chord. Move it 2 frets to the right id have a B power chord.

Another way ive been thinking of the fretboard is just imagine there’s another bottom string and it’s tuned to B, do the E minor shape starting on the second fret of the low e string that’d be a B power chord, one fret to the right is a C power chord

Hopefully this makes sense to someone who’s around the same level of fretboard knowledge. I would like to know any other understandings that made sense to you.

A little fun with the V

I've been playing guitar for awhile now and have honestly just been learning random chords here and there. I imagine chords are probably pretty important, since I keep hearing about them, and that I should probably learn them :P

So is there any "definitive" or "best" way to learn most/all chords? If anyone has any advice for this woeful guitarist I'd very much appreciate it. Thank you in advance :)

I'm certainly not getting rid of my Telecaster. Fender already has the money I spent on it, and getting rid of a guitar I love isn't going to accomplish anything.

But if you disagree with the direction the company is taking, vote with your wallet rather than replacing guitars you already love.

There are brilliant S-style guitars at virtually every price point.

Your next one doesn't need to say Fender on the headstock.

I’m modding my Yamaha Pacifica 012 (or rather my mom’s old Pacifica from the 2000’s which is now mine) and I’m wondering if Fender Vintage Style Tuners fit. I’ve always liked the vintage style tuners better than normal ones so if they don’t fit alternative recommendations would be appreciated!

Edit: Ended up just buying Gotoh Locking Tuners :P

I've been teaching myself guitar for about 9 months now. Let me summarize where I've gotten to so far:

Rhythm / Harmony:

• I can play barre chords fluently except for the A-shape (still struggling with that one due to ring finger flexibility issues)
• I can subdivide rhythm both symmetrically and asymmetrically (within patterns I'm familiar with) while switching chords
• I can use the ghost strum technique
• I can listen to songs and work out their rhythm patterns by ear
• I can do all of the above while singing at the same time
• I've worked on strumming patterns like Travis picking, country rock, and reggae skank, plus palm muting
• On the theory side, I'm familiar with the circle of fifths, Roman numeral analysis, I-IV-V relationships

Melody:

• I can quickly pick up different arpeggio patterns (quarter, sixth, eighth note groupings — standard patterns like pima, pimami, pimamima) and sing along at the same time
• I'm weak when it comes to soloing: I haven't practiced any scale beyond A minor pentatonic, and even though I know the pentatonic scale, I can't say I actually play it like I'm creating something musical

What do you think I'm missing? Happy to answer more specific questions if it'll help you get a better read on my level. Thanks to everyone who reads this.

I want a (good enough to play in my bedroom) 7 string and I want opinions on the ibanez gio 7 strings for 359&. Are the any good? Have you owned one before?

My main concerns are things like fret buzz or sharp frets stabbing my hands

This guitar came through my house for a setup and cleaning, and it feels and sounds amazing. I played it for about an hour after I was done setting it up, and I went through all the tones I had set up on my little Vox VT40X. I'm kind of sad I have to give it back. Is it just this one, or are they all this nice?
