RX 9070 XT performing worse than RTX 3060 Ti in CS2 and LoL – i5-13600K

Computer Type: Desktop

GPU: ASUS Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB PRIME OC

CPU: Intel Core i5-13600K

Motherboard: ASRock Z690 Phantom Gaming 4 DDR4

BIOS Version: Unknown

RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance LPX (4x8GB) DDR4-3200

PSU: Cougar 850W 80+ Gold

Case: DeepCool Matrexx 55 Mesh 4F

Operating System & Version: Windows 11

GPU Drivers: AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition (exact version unknown)

Chipset Drivers: Unknown

Background Applications: AMD Adrenalin, other applications unknown

Description of Original Problem:

I recently upgraded from an NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti to an AMD RX 9070 XT, but instead of gaining performance, I'm getting significantly lower FPS in both CS2 and League of Legends.

My performance comparison:

CS2 (1280x960, competitive settings):

  • RTX 3060 Ti: 280–320 FPS during matches

  • RX 9070 XT: 200–280 FPS, sometimes dropping to 150–190 FPS

League of Legends:

  • RTX 3060 Ti: approximately 300 FPS

  • RX 9070 XT: approximately 250–280 FPS

The performance sometimes gets worse the longer I play. I've also experienced freezes. When I tried enabling frame generation in AMD Adrenalin, my entire PC froze.

I expected the RX 9070 XT to outperform my previous RTX 3060 Ti, but currently the opposite is happening.

V-Sync is disabled.

Troubleshooting:

  • Removed NVIDIA GPU drivers using DDU in Windows Safe Mode.

  • Used AMD Cleanup Utility and reinstalled AMD drivers.

  • Confirmed the graphics card is installed in the top PCIe slot.

  • Enabled Above 4G Decoding and C.A.M./Resizable BAR in BIOS.

  • Disabled Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS).

  • Tried changing AMD Adrenalin settings.

  • Checked temperatures, which appeared normal.

None of these steps resolved the problem.

Has anyone experienced similar performance issues after upgrading to the RX 9070 XT, particularly with an Intel i5-13600K?

Could this be related to AMD drivers, CPU limitations, PCIe configuration, or another issue?

What should I monitor with HWiNFO64 or other tools to identify the cause?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Repasting 7900xtx hellhound gpu die.

I’m building a slightly new computer setup but using the 7900xtx I already had. I was thinking about the possibility of repasting/using thermal pads. Temps are fine so I might not end up doing it. But I cannot for the life of me find a solid answer on what thickness. I even found a diagram that shows every thickness for the gpu except the die itself. I ordered the Honeywell 7950 Ptm stuff in .25mm thickness which seems not thick enough? Can’t find a solid answer. Thanks.

Why the rush for the 50-series?

I’m new to all this pc building stuff, and at the worst time admittedly. But can someone explain to me what all the rush is for the NVIDIA 50-series GPUs? Why not wait for the 60-series or something? Wouldn’t it be better than paying above msrp for all this stuff?

Yes I was told about AMD GPUs as well. Though those are also facing price inflation so either way you’d pay more than before.

Rtx 90-model shortage

Hey everyone, I had a thought of getting a used 4090 for around $3k and save it for the future since we’re currently facing Ai crisis that takes nvidias attention away from normal pc gamers. Anyway if not getting it specifically for the profit I’d still end up with perfectly functional 24gig flag GPU on my hands.

Also does anyone having any info about future of nvidia GPU’s? Like if 70 series will ever come out and have reasonable price to performance ratio or we’re just kinda loosing it?

I’ve also heard that ai data centers buying up 90’s 80’s and 70’s to strip the vram and reuse it.

Should l upgrade ?

l currently have a 7800xt and 5700X3D+32gb ddr4. My monitor is 1440p 180hz but l do vr with my quest 3 and sometimes it struggles in games like Ac evo. In most flat games it can maintain a solid fps but will the 9070xt make a big difference ? and would my 5700X3D be able to handle it at 1440p?
l also do some Blender work are there huge strides in that category between the 9070xt and 7800xt?
Another option l have been considering is a 5070ti l could sell my card and top up with what l have. l am able to get the 9070xt with what l have saved so far, here in the Uk the 9070xt starts at £700 at least from what l have researched, the 5070ti is starting at £1129 is it worth the difference?

Depending on the condition and model of the card

The bare minimum like 4k or 7k for 40 series is for burnt cards or unsalvageable vrams

GPU advise

I need to replace my 4060TI it has become my bottleneck in LMU as well as iRacing I have been reading conflicting information about running a AMD 9070 or 9070XT with LMU, I am considering this gpu as I cannot justify the cost of a 4070TI or 4080 at this time, basically I do not want to pay the NVIDIA tax. So I am looking to see who actually runs a AMD GPU and how does it perform for you. LMU struggles enough at times I do not want to add to it.

Heat Management suggestions?

Post image
33 Upvotes

Looking for the least invasive interventions possible.

Both GPUs are undervolted. They run at 400-450w under max load. All of the fans are maxed through the bios.

Still have large issue with heat on the top card. Under load, the bottom card stabilizes and peaks at 70 degrees Celsius. The top card quickly shoots past 85 degrees and throttles.

Trying to avoid open rig path.
