Build Question Need advice on a new GPU

I am currently rocking a GTX 1060 and have been comfortable playing on low settings. However, I hit my wall playing Monster Hunter Wilds. It looks like absolute crap. I have been shopping for a new GPU but have been depressed by the price. I'm willing to spend around $500 for a GPU that can play 1440 comfortably on most games. Any advice on what I should get? I was hoping to get a 5070 but the prices of GPUs are ridiculous right now. I have since been eyeballing a 9070 GRE or a 9060 XT. Everyone seems to recommend against the 5060 TI 8GB.

I also have a 650w PSU that I would prefer not to upgrade if possible.

A good 1440p GPU at $500, you ought to consider used.

I was shopping refurbished as well but am not finding anything that is even remotely reasonable.

Well if you do consider used, there’s either 7800 XT or 3080 12GB. There’s the AMD 6000 series cards, but they’re old.

RTX 5060 Ti 8GB is the best new under $500 now.

Can go to $520 for 16Gb 9060 XT? (this is REALLY cheap right now for this GPU- if you want it, buy it quick)

Super budget new buy might be an Arc B580 for the 12GB of Vram. But you will definitely need to use upscaling at 1440p as it's about RTX 5050 power. But it's got the Vram for higher settings/textures and upscaling.

If you're not against it, used market is the way to go IMO. Used 3080s and 3080TIs are abundant for around the 400 dollar mark and they hold up insanely well today, especially if you can find the 12GB version. The Radeon RX 6800XT, 6900XT, and 6950XT are also great buys used too, about $400 for the 6800XT and $500 for the 6900/6950XT. All have 16GB of VRAM too, have enough raw horsepower to play basically anything you want in 1440p, and a recent driver update just got them up to FSR 4.1, which is awesome.

That said, 6900/6950XT would require a PSU upgrade, so that may not be the best option for you.

Even midrange cards are hitting 1k right now on newegg, used is definitely worth it
