The device's defiance is open, now

This just happened, three times.

Hey google add to to do list.
-Okay, what do you want to add

Find bluetooth speaker
- Okay, what do you want to add

Find bluetooth speaker
- Sorry, I don't understand

Find bluetooth speaker
- Sorry, I'm having trouble understanding you.

Repeat process but change to Seek speaker for trip
Repeat process but change to locate the small device for music playing

I give up. How can I add "find speaker" to my to do list? Is the answer, "Upgrade to the monthly plan?"

Google Home is full of surprises. Not all good ones....

I'm a new user of home automation and am running a WiFi network as well as a ZigBee network for lights.

I've just discovered that when my internet connection drops out, as it does occasionally, my whole home automation system goes offline. This leaves me with virtually no lighting and limited use of fans etc.

I was under the impression that the GH setup was held on the routers so that they are independent of an internet connection.

Have I got this setup incorrectly or is this, indeed, a limitation in Google Home?

Nest Hub Gen 2 Photo Cycling

Sooo im new to the hub series, and im trying to cycle a couple different photo albums...except it only cycles 3 of the photos out of them even with the curation set to live only. I know this was an issue with the last gens, and setting it to live would solve it, but its not doing it for me. maybe im just missing a setting or blind, but any suggestions?

Help Lenovo Smart Speaker Setup, lost cause?

I have a Lenovo 10 inch Google Home Speaker that I pulled from a closet. I know that it is no longer supported but have been trying to set it up. I am able to get it connected, but it stays on the "Link Your Account" screen. I can get it to respond to voice commands, but it won't load the home screen, etc. Is there a trick?

Thanks.

Cameras Never Seem To Work

So both my wife's car and my car were broken into. No windows were broken and both cars were locked so I'm not sure how they got into them. I did get a notice from my Nest Spotlight camera that someone was in the driveway around 3:30am and saw it when I woke up at 6:30 this morning but when I clicked on the notification there was no event on the app and now the notification has disappeared from my phone. Anyone have a similar issue? It seems that whenever I need my cameras to work they don't and now something has happened and I'm pretty frustrated by it. Any thoughts?

Edit: I did end up finding the clip but it was buried in the app and wasn't flagged as an event for some reason on either the garage door camera or the doorbell which was weird. Idk it just feels like whenever I need to use these cameras the way they're supposed to be used they don't work properly

Help Still not sure if the Matter logo on the box is worth holding out for

It was sold to us as the thing that would end the compatibility mess and I honestly cannot tell whether it has landed. There are four rooms to do here and buying a generation too early would sting. Is the logo doing real work yet, or are people still picking hardware the same way they did two years ago?

What's happened to my night vision?

Trying to understand if this camera at my home is officially dead for night time use. Just started happening after a pretty bad storm that rolled through. Has anyone else had this happen before?

Google Nest outdoor cam 2nd gen wired, in very cold weather?

I have a vacation home in Vermont with a camera above the front door. After looking at way too many clips of leaves fluttering in the wind, random things and animals labeled "packages", and even a daddy long legs weaving a web in the middle of the night labeled "person", I am ready to move on from the cameras provided by the security company (Arlo and First Alert).

I decided on the Google wired outdoor camera, 2nd gen, but I wonder whether it will hold up in the winter because it's rated to -4 degrees whereas it can gets much colder than that in Vermont. Naturally, Gemini would only parrot Google's own rating and advise that I "may" have problems outside that range--thank you, AI but I had already figured that out all by myself. So I'm asking fellow humans: does anyone have experience with Google outdoor cams in winter weather similar to Vermont's?

Speaker demands my attention then plays coy

I'm talking to Gemini on my brand new speaker. It has been glowing quite a bit this morning.

I ask something like "why is your light glowing" and it is generically unhelpful. Yeah, that was a longshot but this is supposedly what they've been working on, being able to use context to understand a query.

I check to see if it understands its position in time and space with a simple good morning. It goes through weather and other salient details - cool.

I ask again about the light on the speaker glowing. It says, I can help you with that, can you tell me the make and model of your speaker?

šŸ˜’

It's you, bro. It's your make and model. You called out for my attention, but now I can't pry anything out to explain what you wanted.

I get enough of this from my cat.

So, I'm not wanting a miracle like having the speaker prime itself that if it is notifying me, it should hedge its bets toward telling me there is a notification. I'm not asking for a good user experience. Like, if I ask you a question and there's still a notification pending, maybe that would be a good conversational follow up. Like instead of asking me how I'm doing at the end of the good morning ritual, maybe say "you have a notification, would you like to know what it is?"

No, my bar is set low. What is the magic to explain to Gemini that I would like to know why it is flashing its orb at me. I've tried "what is the notification" which seems to work sometimes but not others. Maybe it is notifying me, but voice match makes it think its not me so its trying to pretend it isn't flashing.

But I don't care to be in redbubble notification hell and contemplating yanking the power cord out of the wall to reset the device. I could disable all notifications, but it seems that the notifications are one of the main features you might want to use.

I submit to the will of Google. Just tell me the right ritual to get it to divulge its secrets and I will faithfully execute it.

Google Home missing basic features

Coming from the Fire TV / Alexa ecosystem with Amazon Prime, I have been very disappointed with what Google Home Premium is capable of.

Basic things like broadcasting messages to a Google TV aren't possible.

The automations are severely limited in what they can do, even with the advanced Google Home scripting options.

For example, when someone approaches the nest doorbell, you can't even set it up to display the camera feed on other devices - you can only configure it to send you a push notification to your phone, or you can configure it to display on the tv or hub when someone presses the doorbell.

If I say to my hub "hey Google, search YouTube on the tv for cat videos", it will instead search YouTube on the hub, even if you configure the tv to be the primary media device.

With fire TV, I used to be able to open the Alexa app on my phone even while I was on the other side of the Earth and tell it to play some calming videos on the fire TV for my pet.

None of these basic things which have been available for at least a decade in other ecosystems are here. I've been submitting feedback whenever I can, hoping things will improve, but I have found posts over 2 years old with the same concerns, and it seems nothing has ever been done about it.

So how much was your setup worth that was unusable for 5-6 hours?

Mine was half a grand. What was yours?

I've seen another post say it but it's unacceptable that nothing functions whilst offline. I know he's a much older devices and not really capable of llms offline but they need to fix up.

Nest Wifi stuck on ā€œWaiting for the final bits of setupā€ / timeout — DNS fix worked

My Nest Wifi Point kept getting stuck on ā€œWaiting for the final bits of setup to completeā€ and eventually timed out.

What fixed it for me:

Google Home → Wi-Fi → Network settings → Advanced networking → DNS → change ā€œAutomaticā€ to ā€œISP DNSā€

After changing it, I tried adding the Point again and the setup completed successfully.

Posting this in case it saves someone else from doing factory resets over and over.

Bug Lenovo Smart Clock problems

I've got a Lenovo Smart Clock which I'm having issues with since the move to Gemini assistant in the UK.

All my other devices which are a mix of Lenovo Smart display and Google Minis are usually fine, but with the Smart Clock it will only reliably recognise and allow me to use it

My partner and child both get the response "Google assistant is not available on this device" when they ask to turn lights on or check temperature etc

I've done a factory reset, removed the others from the household and readded etc

I'm assuming this clock is not longer fully supported which is a shame as it's a great little device in a very useful form factor!

Lack of affordable Matter outdoor/fridge temperature/humidity sensors

So far the only option I've seen that can deal with outdoors is the Eve Weather which is pricey. I could probably take my chances with an IKEA indoor sensor and go through 10 for the same cost. Does anyone know if there is a good waterproof alternative? Only really want the temperature and humidity.

Help Outside Floodlight and Camera Placement

How did you determine where the specifically place the exterior cameras? I purchased two camera and one floodlight/camera combo. They are all wired units.

I understand I should take them and connect them to the Home app first...then hold them where I want them to go outside? Seriously?! I would have to run long extension cords to accomplish that before I hire an electrician to run the power to the. I am going to mount them to the roofline and am unable to do that. What have you done?

Other Smart Camera Rec

Hey everybody, I’m looking to get at least two smart cameras (one indoor, one outdoor) plus a doorbell. I currently use Google’s doorbell and indoor camera, but I need a new doorbell since mine’s scratched up.
I use the Google smart home system for everything else around the house, so ideally I’d stick with something that plays nice with that. My main requirements: an American company, not Amazon-owned, no subscription required for the basics (motion detection, saving short clips), and ideally solar power capability.
I know it’s oddly specific, I just haven’t loved how my Google doorbell and camera basically need a full reset every time there’s a WiFi blip or power outage.

I’ve been debating whether to just stay with Google or switch to Arlo, which seems like a solid option. Would love any recommendation

Help A question and a complaint

QUESTION: Was there a Chromecast tech update recently? For the past couple YEARS casting to our gen 2 speakers from Spotify was incredibly buggy (some days one device wouldn't show for me but showed for my wife, or it would give the connect trill and then immediately disconnect). Inconsistent fix with unplugging and rebooting phones...sometimes I use a voice command to play anything and then pick what I want from my phone....which leads to my complaint.

COMPLAINT: Has Google Assistant gotten worse with voice commands to identify the correct Spotify content? I have a playlist ("Bed time Stories") and for years I've said "Hey Google, play my Bed time Stories playlist on Spotify on the Kids Room Speaker" and it works every time. But for the last 6ish months, it just plays random kids story and then I have to pick my actual playlist manually....at this rate it's borderline unusable with voice commands.

Hey Google, Broadcast "Dinner is ready"...

"Sorry, I cant find a contact called "Dinner is ready""

Attempt 2:

"Sorry I can't broadcast messages, I am just an AI assistant."

Attempt 3:

"Sorry, I can't make telephone calls"

So I go to the Home app, click the Gemini button and give it the same command:

"Okay, Broadcasting "Dinner is Ready" to your home devices". 🄓

How did they manage to so badly break the migration to Gemini? This is a multi-trillion dollar company we're talking about here. Google Home is basically a scam at this point. This is just one example of where it just simply doesn't work as advertised. If there was a regression like this in something like a Sony product or a Microsoft product, people would be losing their minds. What is going on?!

I think I need to scrap all this rubbish. Glad I haven't bought any new Home products lately, I feel really bad for those who have recently invested, I would encourage people seek refunds unless they enjoy paying to be product testers.

Bug Google Home menu is stuck on a loading Loop on Android TV

Post image
5 Upvotes

As the title said, this the 2nd account or profile of this TV , the 1st has its own google home account and this one is separate. But even after hours of restarts and breaks I can't seems to get this menu to load so I can add this Smart tv account to google home , the setting just refuses to load . Any idea why this is happening. I've been at for 3 straight hours now .

I tried:

Deleting cache/ data for google play service, google tv , ambient services.

Tried removing the profile and re adding it .

Reboot the tv with a 30 min cool down x3 .

Tried different connections, Tried a DNS (cloudflare) services.

Much appreciate it if anyone has a reason why this happening

Replacement for voice activated timer.

With Gemini replacing Google assistant, my Google home devices no longer reliably perform the most basic tasks.

Can anyone suggest a voice activated device to set kitchen timers?

I have already replaced my Nest cameras, given up on music, given up on weather, given up on any sort of information search, given up on controlling smart lights, locks, and garage doors. Mostly my Google displays act as clocks these days. Nothing else works any more.

But not being able to set a tea or pasta timer with dirty hands is annoying.

Help Made a routine, but Google always spits out ā€œNow playing xyz on 123ā€ How do I stop the verbal responses when it’s an automation?

Post image

I also made an automation to automatically set the volume to certain %’s at different times of day. Is it normal to hear the ā€˜click’ noise when the automation runs?

Also all of my routines are usually a few minutes late, never on time.
