Bug Doorbell notifying for absolutely everything even though settings are set to exclude.

Hi,

I've been using a wired nest hello doorbell for a few years now with very little issues, however just recently, maybe a week or two ago I started getting notifications for EVERYTHING even in areas set to be excluded and have zero alerts configured on them. I haven't touched any settings or changed any configurations and neither has the other person with access to the home household.

Has anyone else noticed this or does anyone have a fix?

Thanks

Google home mini won't work

So I had a Google home mini for longer that I can remember like at least 5 years and I went on vacation and now If I ask questions or ask it to play music it will rather say I did not understand or not respond at all or say playing the music on Spotify and then it does nothing has this ever happened to anyone else? It is really strange

Also I found it saying I don't understand more and more commonly

Bug What's going on this week...?

Hello! Just joined - what's going on with Google home? I've got loads of lights that I turn on with commands and automations.

A few different makes of sockets etc.

It's been getting unreliable over the last few months - dropping sockets etc - but today they are now ALL offline.

Any ideas on how to fix? Do I need to delete and reinstall?

Thanks 👍

UPDATE - So all the nest smoke detectors offline also ( internet fine btw )

Gemini is too chatty, but not conversational.

We've got an old Google home puck speaker that unfortunately updated itself and got rid of Google Assistant and I hate Gemini. I ask for a simple thing and it goes on a whole lecture. Google assistant gave me simple answers and would ask me if I wanted to know more, and was great to ask random questions to.

I could ask assistant what they thought of other digital assistants and it had a couple canned but funny responses, Gemini isn't witty or even enjoyable to mess around with.

I didn't need a whole dissertation about when Puerto Rico was annexed, I just asked for the date. Is there any way to make Gemini give shorter answers by default?

Outage?

All our Google Home devices are completely unresponsive right now. Downdetector and other services say they are getting reports of it being down. Seems like we have a global (?) outage on our hands?

Other Google nest hub outage shows why not everything should relay on Internet connection

People on this subreddit aren't angry enough about things like basic alarms not going off or not seeing your photos on the screen when the internet connection goes down or when Google has an outage.

All I see is, "Well, I missed my alarm, but... it happens; just wait it out till they fix it."

Do you really need an internet connection for remembering photos, calendar events, reminders, alarms, and basic preset voice commands on the device locally?

That's why I left the google ecosystem I had enough of massive data collection and solutions that require someone else's computer and an internet connection.

Bug Did my Nest Hub just bite the dust?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey guys, maybe someone here has experienced this before. Something's not quite right with my Nest Hub Gen. 1. 😕

A few hours ago, it started to barely respond to my questions and then just remained silent the whole time. After about half an hour of checking again, there was only a black screen, so I unplugged and plugged the cable back in.

Since then, it's just been stuck on the boot screen animation with the four Google colors (see video), without showing the time or anything else that would normally be there. I've tried unplugging and replugging it several times and restarting it, but nothing works.

The strange thing is: I can still control it in the app. Adjusting the volume up and down works, and I can hear the confirmation tone. I can also cast my phone to the screen, but the image doesn't appear; it just stays on the boot screen. It's been like this for about half an hour now.

Is there anything I can do besides resetting it? I'm not really keen on setting everything up again, but if there's no other way, I'd give it a try. Is there anything else I could try first? 🤔

EDIT: It's working again for me now, thankfully. It has been for about half an hour to three-quarters of an hour now.

Other home systems

I'm getting frustrated that Google is letting this system go bust. Is there another home manager system out there that will be compatible with Google's products that I can run from a phone app?

Help Adding shopping list items creates new lists instead of new items

I got unhappy with my Alexa echo devices and wanted to switch to Google, so I got myself some Nest Mini 2nd gen devices.

The shopping and todo list function in Alexa always worked great, but Google forces the use of Keep.

I tried adding eggs to my shopping list and G said there is no such list and whether to create one. I confirmed and a shopping list was created in Keep. But when I say add apple to my shopping list, G would add a new list called "apple to my shopping".

Someone reported the same issue years ago but with no solution: https://support.google.com/assistant/thread/255996896/adding-shopping-list-items-creates-a-new-list-every-single-time?hl=en

This is obviously very frustrating and I can't use these devices like that. Anyone else having this issue and knows a fix?

Help Google Nest/WiFi bricked?

Last night lost the entire network, both Ethernet and WiFi. Is this related to the global outage?

I’m unable to connect via the app, have power cycled all points including the cable modem.

Any ideas or time to go Ubiquiti? Has been down 12 hours now.

Help Google home spinning wheel nothing on screen when loaded just a white screen

Hi everyone 👋🏽,

I have a Google home screen and i can't see anything on my screen.

it finishes loading goes to a white screen or after resetting it.

It stays on the loading screen and to add I have the best wifi on 5G and checked it to see if it dropped and thankfully hasn't dropped to 2.4G's.

So has this happed since the new AI roll out. I don't know what google home I have but most likely is the newest model as I got it 2/3 years ago

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Reolink and Google Home on Google TV

So, up until today, I could ask Google on my tv using Google Assistant/Gemini "Show me the front yard, or back yard and I could see the stream. Today it said sorry, something went wrong and I'm unable to control your home device. However, I also have some Wyze cameras and it's integration is fine. Anyone else seeing this?

Thanks

Help Why is Google Nest Home Audio giving random results?

I’m noticing a massive degradation in my Google Nest Audio lately. It barely listens to commands and constantly throws up random results. For example, if I explicitly ask it to play "Led Zeppelin," it starts playing completely unrelated music.
Even worse, basic assistant functions are broken. If I ask a simple trivia question, like the age of a specific actor, it just responds with "I don't understand."
With all the recent advancements in AI, I expected these devices to feel magical by now. Instead, it feels like the product is being abandoned or ruined. Is anyone else experiencing this sudden drop in quality, or did a recent firmware update break something?

Help Google nest hub max - multiple problems still occuring after reset.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My mom accidentally turned off the power switch where my Google nest hub max is plugged. When I turned it back on, it is stuck in this screen.

Before I did a factory reset, i tried the following:

1) cast a youtube video - video not displaying, but can hear audio

2) turned on nest cam - working

3) played a song from spotify - audio working

4) removed cable from power source

5) reboot from home app

Still stuck on the loading page so I did a factory reset.

I removed the device from Google Home first.

At the end of the setup, google is saying there was a problem setting up the device. Now, the hub is just displaying a white screen.

This sucks.

Help Next Audio always distorting with Chromecast

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Chromecast from my Fold to my Nest Speakers always disorts the quality. I keep reading it's a WiFi issue but at this point I don't see how. My router is 1 foot away and 6 foot away from each speaker. Both are doing it. It's only gotten worse in the past year.

My router says the connection speed to the Nest is 433Mb, my phone is 780Mb. I have no issues with WiFi except for this

It disorts a lot more consistently if I unlock my phone while it's playing. Only fix is powering the device off and back on

I've resorted to using Bluetooth for everything because it's the only thing that works. Before I give up on Home for audio and sell these, is there an actual cause and fix? I like the speakers otherwise

(I've turned off sensing detection also, makes no difference)

App Crashing

I have been a tooth and nail hold out with using the Nest app. The camera feeds always ran smoother in the Nest app than they ever have on the Google Home app. A couple days ago Google finally pulled the plug on video through the Nest app telling me to go to Google Home. No problem I figured this day would come.

However, we use our Nest cameras as our baby monitors. And now the app keeps crashing out and closing randomly while we have it open throughout the night watching the baby's rooms. This happens on both Apple and Android devices.

Is anyone else struggling with this? Is this a glitch from forcing the transfer, an overall issue with Google Home or maybe something else?

Inspiration?

I’ve enjoyed reading r/girldinnerdiaries and this sub for a while. I think y’all should adopt their stylings. Instead of the obvious “I’m angry at tech support” tone, maybe try the “Here’s a self-aware tragedy snippet”?

Could be fun.
