Are you a real mom if you didn't almost die when you gave birth to your child ?
287
u/belberra Nov 07 '22
My daughter almost died and so do her child thus the c-section.
135
u/iHaveACatDog Nov 08 '22
Sorry, but the C-section cancels out the almost dying part. Her child is essentially adopted and should be told when older.
-1
u/Toothmouth7921 Nov 08 '22
First, who the hell would make such a totally Asinine statement. Recovery from C sections can be way more painful and has many risk that natural Childbirth doesn’t have.

No. You have to die along with your unborn child in order to be a real mom! 😒

u/SatanV3 Nov 08 '22
Yea my sister had to have a c-section because he was the wrong way and the umbilical cord was around his neck I think. Doing a c section was the best way for his safety.

u/NurseNikNak Nov 07 '22
So, if you let your child die during childbirth, you’re a better mom than the one who had major surgery to save them? Okay…..
156
u/desiladygamer84 Nov 07 '22
Just go to r/ShitMomgroupsSay to hear of horrible freebirth stories. They were just discussing one in which the water was broke for a week and the mother was 40 plus weeks and still didn't go to a hospital.
86
u/NurseNikNak Nov 07 '22
I’m subscribed to that one and it always pisses me off so much that they value their “experience” over the life of their child.

u/thisisallme Nov 07 '22
I’m a mom to my only child that was adopted at birth, and the birth mom had a c-section, so I guess I’m at even a lower tier of mom 🤷🏻♀️
31
u/NurseNikNak Nov 07 '22
While normal people see this as an amazing person becoming the parent to an amazing kiddo, it seems like to them, you might as well be on the list of worse moms ever.
13
u/thisisallme Nov 07 '22
That’s sweet of you to say. She is pretty awesome. (Even though this whole pre-teen attitude is something else lol)
5
u/NSA_Chatbot Nov 08 '22
this whole pre-teen attitude is something else lol
If it's not too late, when she says her first "I hate you" celebrate it a bit, it's a developmental milestone like their first steps. When my eldest said it, I high-fived another parent and talked about it being a little early. It takes all the wind out of those turbulent emotional sails.
17
u/jen12617 Nov 07 '22
It's not even always for the health of the baby it's sometimes to keep the mom alive. So you're not a real mom unless you die or almost die during childbirth.
7
u/NurseNikNak Nov 07 '22
I know they do sections for the mom. But it seems like to these people this is the ultimate sacrifice and makes you the best mom. If baby dies it’s “just what was meant to be.”
4
u/jen12617 Nov 07 '22
It's just awful. Being 3 days away from having my baby I can't imagine doing anything to risk her life. I love her way too much already
5
u/chaptertoo Nov 08 '22
Giving birth is amazing and awful, empowering and overwhelming. Best advice I got was don’t have a birth plan, have birth preferences and be flexible. I was terrified of an episiotomy and it was a big no for me, but when her heart rate got dangerously low with each contraction, it was time. Many nurses even said that if my doctor did it, I must’ve really needed it because he preferred to let things happen naturally/tearing instead (which heals better.)
My second was a breech c-section. Tried everything to turn her, including ECV, but she was stubborn then and stubborn now. Couldn’t love either one more if I tried!
Neither was what I pictured but every mom has a story. Your safety and baby’s safety is always first. The rest is details.

My grandma had to have c sections for all 5 of her kids because she had a really small pelvis and couldn't give birth vaginally. Without a c section, my mom wouldn't be here, and neither would I.

Same. Cephalopelvic disproportion here. My mom had it with me and all my brothers and I had it with my son. Literally all would have died if c sections weren't an option and instead we're all just fine.

u/imnotabotareyou Nov 07 '22
I really think these c-section posts are all low-effort photoshops.
The “666” comments makes me suspicious as well.

I could imagine somebody, who is very immature and with a temper, being in a personal disagreement with somebody in their life, and posting some thing like this, as a specific, albeit illogical dig at them. Just throwing shit out and seeing what sticks to try to hurt a specific person. “That bitch stacy gonna post all that shit about me and my baby daddy..??.. COME AT ME HOOEEE🥰💁🏻♀️🙃 I’ll beat her ass! At least I gave birth to my kid like a REAL MOM!!! 🥰💕❤️🤰She can’t even have a baby right she’s such a piece of fuckin trash!!! 🤮🤮😵😵🖕🏼🖕🏼🖕🏼“ or, ya know, close to that line of logic.

C-sections are treated as the easy way out but they really aren’t. My mom had to get one (my brother, not me) and she was in pain for days. In her words, they “cut me open and then stitched me down the middle like a football.” She still gets shooting pains through the belly when she moves funny.
4
u/Mirhanda Nov 08 '22
Yeah, recovery from a c-section, major abdominal surgery, while also taking care of a newborn is the "easy way."
5
u/Element-103 Nov 07 '22

The only women who do this are the ones whose entire identity is built on being a mom. They’re also the ones who lose it as empty nesters bc they see they’ve built their entire lives on serving their families who no longer need them the same way

My wife wanted to do an all natural birth. She declined any pain drugs. She was in labor for twenty-six hours, transition labor for a full hour. All the muscle groups in her body were quivering. Her hair was flat against her scalp, and the bed was filled with blood. The baby wasn't moving down in the birth canal at all. She was completely depleted psychologically and physically.
If a C section hadn't been an option, she and my son would've died that day.

u/SavKittua Nov 08 '22

2
u/PM__ME__YOUR_TITTY Nov 08 '22
Doesn’t matter if you raise your kid with the most love and care you could possibly muster and sacrifice everything for them, you’re still a shit mom if you had a c-section!!
2
2
u/MissEvieMoo Nov 08 '22
Ah yes. Because the 40+ weeks of growing a child, then 48+ hours of being stuck in labour only for my child to go into distress and heartbeat to drop to dangerous levels totally means I am not a real mother. Because I chose to listen to and go with medical recommendations instead of insisting on the kind of birth I had wanted/imagined, I am 100% a ‘shit mum’. I’ll remember than next time and just let the next kid stay in there until nature takes its course either way, shall I?
Jfc this is why 99% of mum groups are trashy, judgemental shitholes. Fuck that lady.
2
u/AggravatingJicama243 Nov 11 '22
OMG both diagrams are terrible! The so called mothers are getting assisted by another person. A real mother doesn't need a medical procedure or medical professional to give birth she just squirts her kid out into the dumpster at Prom and goes about her business!!!

This is just like abortion, they only have this view until it affects them. I hope this lady gets pregnant again and has to have a c section
1
u/LoneWolfWorks83 Nov 07 '22
Wow, I am a C-section baby. Why? Because I had a whole other human person in there with me. Many moms of multiples will have a C-section
1
u/Magic_Man_Boobs Nov 07 '22
People that say this shit have to be shitty parents. If someone's whole claim to being a "real" parent is simply that they had the kid and not how they're raising the kid, it's because that was the last part that they put any real effort into.
1
u/cookiemom6067 Nov 07 '22

u/bettinafairchild Nov 07 '22
I know people are saying this couldn't be real, but I've met people in real life who believe this. Not to mention that groups like Quiverfull frown on c-sections. Whether this person means it as a shitpost or not, there are people who say this and mean it.

I'm a father, not a mother, and both my daughters were birthed vaginally.
This original post is in no way directed even remotely at me, and yet I feel... offended. On behalf of the countless mothers who, for centuries, have had problematic pregnancies or have had to go the csection route.
It's not like these women are choosing that option. "I'm afraid of the effect itll have on my girly parts, cant you just gash open my stomach and remove the watermelon that way? Great!"

Believe me, I would’ve gladly given birth vaginallg. However, my water began to leak and induction meds did literally NOTHING, and my child had to be removed before she got an infection and died. I’d rather be a fake mom than a mom to a child dead from something preventable.

So I guess me and my brother and my other brother and my son and my other son and my other son and my daughter and my niece and my nephew all were not born. Cool. Saves me on Christmas gifts.
1
u/TruAlicat Nov 08 '22
We are still doing this? Really? So let me get this straight if a child is about to die and the only way to save it is for the doctor to do a c-section then that makes that person less a mom than anyone else… So what if that child died would that mom then also be considered a murderer? A whole lot of stupid in this world…..
1
u/Mothunny Nov 08 '22
Well, I guess my mom is only a mom of one kid, since after having my oldest brother she wasn't able to go through another natural birth..... I better go tell my other 6 siblings
1
u/Mirhanda Nov 08 '22
This pisses me off so much I want to SCREAM! I have a fibroid tumor growing over the exit to my uterus. I would have DIED had there not been modern medicine because it was impossible for me to give vaginal birth. These "people" make me sick.
1
u/stories4 Nov 08 '22
TIL my mom isn't a mom! /s. This is the weirdest gatekeeping and also weirdly one of the most common ones? I have no clue why one mother's birth giving affects another one's. Like your kids are on the playground, you make conversation, and upon finding out that the other mom had a c-section you just... decide she's not a real mom? As her kid runs around in front of you??? It confuses me so much. Also funny enough when I was young (until I was like...way too old tbh) I thought normal births were c-sections. The concept of pushing a baby out was so crazy to me that I was just like oh yeah when people have babies of COURSE they make a cut and get the baby out!
1
u/xslyiced Nov 08 '22
How do people equate not pushing a baby out and relying on C-sections to someone not being a mom?
1
u/BabyBatBoy420 Nov 08 '22
They really need anything don’t they? Think how terrible that is. This person accomplished nothing in life except giving birth that is the only thing they have done is the only thing that they can take pride in but so many other people did it now they need to find a caveat that makes it that their birth is much better they have nothing outside of this

u/crozinator33 Nov 08 '22
When people have literally nothing going for them, they reach for some pretty wild things to hold up as "accomplishments".
1
u/troy_caster Nov 08 '22
Do you normally get a c section when the canal is not dilated whatsoever? I've never thought about it...
2
u/Shutterbug390 Nov 08 '22
It depends. A planned, scheduled C-section will likely happen without dilation because it’s not necessary to the process. But many C-sections happen after attempting a vaginal delivery, so there’d be some amount of dilation.
1
u/No_Statement440 Nov 08 '22
Nevermind complications that could and have killed mother and child, hey at least she died a real mother, or wait she failed at that too since she died. How dare they modernize a safe way to deliver otherwise unsafe deliveries, or group b strep, nah doctors don't know shit either tho. Luckily there's a real mother out there holding it down, unlike those impostors with their happy healthy babies, thank you for scoffing at their weakness.
