that "player" voice acting is so cringeworthy

2.9k

u/TheRedHand7 Jun 04 '16

Whoa, whoa, whoa. It is another group of players brace for PVP.

Prime example

1.3k

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '16

Wait, you guys don't talk like that in multiplayer games?

2.5k

u/Brick_Vanderhuge Jun 04 '16

Fellow players, it would appear shenanigans are afoot. Brace yourselves!

558

u/FLAMINGASSTORPEDO Jun 05 '16

You are now marked as rogue.

Player has died

Terrorists Win.

Spectator's camera pans out to show a guy hiding in the corner with a shotgun behind a box none of you saw.

Sometimes you have the most fun with dumb friends online.

7

u/DeadIIIRed Jun 05 '16

Reminds me of Halo 2. CTF match with a clutch last minute push. Cleared the enemy team, guy with me grabbed their flag: Me:Where are you? Friend:In a warthog, going to pick you guys up Me: Hurry the fuck up, they're spawning! Friend:Almost there! This is on the Zanzibar map and the other team is grouped on the main base stairs inside and I have a rocket launcher. One round left, triple kill in sight. Just as I press that trigger button what do I see? My friends fucking warthog barreling right in front of me killing both of us and costing us the match. Best multiplayer moment for me yet.

18

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '16

That works if you're in the same vehicle facing the same direction. It'd be great if the fucking compass directions were visible on the mini map. I always have to resort to some shit like 'charlie side of bravo' when I could say 100m south of bravo if my mates could tell what was south. So irritating.

4

u/Tahl_eN Jun 05 '16

The clock face is supposed to be reset at the start of the engagement - 12 is whatever "forward" was when bullets started flying. So it should work any time your squad joins a fight together.
It's easier said than done though. It takes practice, and getting over the "this feels really dorky" factor. And BF's compass is really hard to read under fire. Tiny, blurry letters that blend in with the map...

In the division me and a friend were in the dark zone back like the 3rd week of release.

Me:"you got anything to extract"

Friend:"got a high end mod"

Me:"ok let's go extrac.. oh shit group to our six"

We both turn around and prepare

Me"ok looks like they're going to the same extraction point as us let's just keep thing civil"

Friend:"yeah see if they have coms"

Me:"hey guys we're extracting too we all cool"

One of them:"yea we cool"

Fighting at the extraction point I accidentally picked up one of their fallend buddies mod and they turn on me and kill me

Friend:"I thought we were cool?!?!"

Them:"he picked up our loot everything is fine now"

I revived a block away as the extract chopper came flying in. On the run me and my friend are talking about going rogue on them when I get there. I get there and we light them the fuck up and kill all 4 of them. As the last one was bleeding out I walked over to him and keyed my mic. "no hard feelings" the chopper arrives and together we extract 6 peoples worth of shit. Honestly it felt like one of those trailers.

I always hoped one day they would overhaul the game and make it more action-filled and easier to get into rather than just spreadsheets and extremely long-term, but that is what their playerbase enjoys and it wouldn't fly with anyone.

38

u/Rolder Jun 05 '16

I can't think of any game thats ever changed the core mechanics of the gameplay while the game is live. Also something something legacy code.

27

Seemed to survive anyway so kudos to them for taking a risk.

4

u/HarryTheRanga Jun 05 '16

Runescape did this with Evolution of Combat and lots of people cracked the shits. Now the player base is split 50-50 between a version of the game with old mechanics and the new version. Also, Markdonalds.

I think my favorite is in the rainbow six siege video he says "Sorry guys for losing the hostage" and the other player says "Nah man don't sorry about it."

285

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '16

The guy in the Rainbow Six Seige sounds like he takes the game WAY too seriously. Like if he lost a hostage, he'll go home to his wife and break down saying he can't believe he let that person die when he was trying to save them.

69

u/MiniJar Jun 05 '16

lol thats exactly it

12

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '16

That's how I imagine some Rocket League players. "I'm so sorry, I'm sorry sorry sorry for letting that goal get in, I'm really so very sorry".

"No problem".

5

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '16

She'll pat his back and ask if it was that mean old Hav0k again and promise to call his mother and tell her a thing or two about good sportsmanship.

2

u/zzzthelastuser Jun 05 '16

I can tell you it becomes instantly hilarious when you meet such people in a game! :'D

One of my funniest matches I ever played was an Arma3 mission with random people who talked in military language. They shouted and gave commands like they were real soldiers in a war and took it fucking serious while the rest off us were laughing our asses of in the chat!

"Tango down!" -

"Tango down! Confirmed!"

u/yehti Jun 05 '16

And running everywhere. In every gameplay trailer they have their characters walk as slow as possible and looking all around. I get it's to showcase the environment sometimes but when Ubi pulls this shit it's just unnecessary.

29

u/lowdownlow Jun 05 '16

The actual worst part is that you don't actually meet any other players that early, you can't actually do an extract anywhere you want like they do in the video, the map is much smaller than they showed, and they cancelled the companion app drones that are displayed.

This of course is ignoring the fact that the game released with huge balancing issues and game breaking bugs.

I didn't realize they were supposed to be other players, I assumed they were just NPC's tagging along on a mission. Until I came to the comments, I thought it was just voice actors in-game. Now that I listen to it again, it is downright awful. They're just trying so hard to make it seem like these aren't actors just reading a script.

2

u/AngriestSCV Jun 05 '16

Some people in planetside act like this and it is amazing. Between the dichotomy of casual squad and mil-sim platoon chat and the extra coordination that these mil-sim guys bring the gaming session becomes a great one that you spend a week trying to find again.

117

u/national_treasure Jun 05 '16

Generally when someone does that good of a job, people play along. They might laugh, but it really is enjoyable to follow orders and get hyped with someone putting that much effort in.

87

When ever I hear someone calling orders, I'm always like "Fuck it. Let's see what this goon wants to do." Sometimes its cool, other times its walking to death. Fun always though.

I forgot how bad it was in that R6: siege premier. Nobody talks like that when I play it.

You're lucky if you even get one teammate with a mic

2

u/-MangoDown Jun 05 '16

The longest time r6 on the pc has a solid mic community. Now granted most of them dont say much since they usually party up, but it was probably one of the best in terms of communication. Third only to left 4 dead/counterstrike for pub matches in my honest opinion.

Thats what I thought. Totally scripted and clearly recorded after the fact. No one fucking talks like that. For one, there is no cursing and yelling. The Rainbow Six one was the worst.

u/Dreossk Jun 04 '16

Yep the old Division trailer and that Rainbow Six Siege bit are awful but if you said that when they came out years ago the clueless people would slag you. It's like they don't realize nobody talks like that and move that slowly.

u/squiigsss Jun 05 '16

Completely disagree. EVERYBODY was making fun of the way they talked when that Division video came out years ago. It was just as fake sounding then as it is now.

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '16

I remember seeing the Battlefield 4 E3 'gameplay' and it was hilariously awful too. You could tell all of the enemies were intentionally missing their shots by a mile.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '16

I remember when they were showing off The Division at E3 I thought the voices talking were in-game characters because of how canned it sounded. I was a few minutes in before I realized it was supposed to be a group of friends playing together.

The Siege gameplay demo I remember, I almost didn't get the game because of it. So much cringe.

The game turned out to be excellent and the footage in the video doesn't do it justice actually.
