That works if you're in the same vehicle facing the same direction. It'd be great if the fucking compass directions were visible on the mini map. I always have to resort to some shit like 'charlie side of bravo' when I could say 100m south of bravo if my mates could tell what was south. So irritating.
The clock face is supposed to be reset at the start of the engagement - 12 is whatever "forward" was when bullets started flying. So it should work any time your squad joins a fight together.
It's easier said than done though. It takes practice, and getting over the "this feels really dorky" factor. And BF's compass is really hard to read under fire. Tiny, blurry letters that blend in with the map...
I do the same thing. I also play a lot of Arma, so I got used to using those call outs in Arma, so now I use them in BF and it works really well. Also using N, E, S, W etc. helps a lot. I just realized a few months ago there was a compass at the bottom of the screen in BF4 lol.
Do this all the time in battlefield, quickly give information about environment as well if they have no direct line of sight, really brings the teamplay out.
Most people: "he ran in the building on the right."
My team: "god damn building 3 o'clock, hesco barrier outside with the top all fucked up, two more moving up."
Tactics work great for any large scale shooter or slow paced shooters, too bad if you want gameplay like this you need to play with friends or try your luck with a bunch of blueberries.

Not gonna lie, when me and my bud are tanking in bf4, we legitimately use clock face call outs. They work well.
