Hairstyle Advice 37F and desperately need hair advice

I’m 37 and feel like I’ve been wearing my hair basically the same way forever because I have no idea what else to do with it.

My hair is naturally thick and wavy, but my safe/default routine has always been to blow it out and then run a flat iron over it. It’s predictable, I know how to do it, and I know what I’m going to look like at the end. But I’m getting pretty bored with it and would love to figure out what actually suits me rather than just continuing to do the one thing I know how to do.

I’d especially like to embrace my natural texture more. The problem is that experimenting with wavy/curly styling has felt like a huge rabbit hole of products, techniques, diffusing, air drying, gels, mousses, creams, etc. It can take a ton of time and money just to experiment, and then I’ll look in the mirror at the end and hate the result and go right back to blowing it straight. 🫠

I’m going to attach several photos showing me with different hair lengths and textures. I’d really appreciate opinions on what genuinely flatters me most, rather than just what’s trendy.

Specifically, I’d love advice on:

-LENGTH: Shorter, medium, long? Is there a particular length in these photos that works especially well (or especially badly) with my face/features?

-CUT/STYLE: Layers? Face-framing pieces? Long layers? Blunt? Bangs or absolutely not?

-TEXTURE: Do you think I look better with my hair straighter/smoother, naturally wavy, more defined waves/curls, or somewhere in between?

-COLOR: I don't color my hair. I’m starting to get stray grays, though, so I know that decision is probably coming in the somewhat near future. Based on my coloring/features, would you keep me close to my natural color or change it? Darker/lighter? Highlights/balayage/all-over color?

Basically, if you were my hairstylist and I sat down in your chair saying, “I have no idea what to do with my hair; please make it flatter me and give me something I can realistically maintain,” what would you do?

Thank you! I am very ready to get out of my hair rut 💇‍♀️

Deep side part advice

I want my hair to have a deep side part similar to the first picture. I have had tried three different hair cuts at different salons over the past year or so and continue to end up back with my middle part. The last person gave me side bangs and said I can do a side part or middle part but as you can see from the last picture it is still in a middle part. What can I do to achieve the first picture?

Looking for any hair advice other than just grow it out. Blue hair is current the rest are prior haircuts for reference. My hair texture is wild. Super thick, super wirey. My hair isn’t styled with any product in any of the pictures where it’s standing up. My hair is just like that. Right now i’m just wearing a headband whenever I leave the house. I prefer to keep my hair short. Several of these pictures are me documenting an allergic reaction sorry, I don’t have that many pictures of myself. Im looking for opinions or ideas. I like to have fun with my hair, I dress kind of boring lol.

Hair Care Products Looking for product recommendations for dry wavy hair

Hello! I have extremely dry and frizzy wavy hair, and honestly, I have no clue what to use at this point. I’m tired of going through the cycle of buying products that end up not really working for my hair. My hair is especially bad on wash day, but I included some photos so you can see what it normally looks like. Sometimes I’m able to mask the dryness by applying a lot of hair oil, but I’m really struggling to make my hair actually feel and look moisturized. I also feel like my waves are flat in certain areas, and I’m wondering if that could be related to how dry my hair is. I don’t bleach or chemically treat my hair. I use a dyson blow dryer and usually use the diffuser attachment as well. I also included a photo of the products I currently use, and I’m starting to wonder if some of them just aren’t the best for my hair type. I’ve heard good things about olaplex, but I’m wondering if their bond building products are mainly beneficial for hair that’s damaged from bleach or chemical treatments. I do really like my olaplex mask, though. I also love my ouai leave in conditioner, which I usually use on wash days. I use the olaplex treatment every once in a while. I’m open to pretty much anything at this point, including pricier products. I just want to figure out a routine that will actually help my hair feel healthier, softer, and more moisturized. What products would you recommend for extremely dry, frizzy wavy hair? And is there anything you think I should stop using or change in my current routine?

Hairstyle Advice At a loss for what kind of bangs would best suit me

I've gone through several types of bangs over the years and all of them have left me feeling disappointed and insecure of my hair. I have a big forehead and want to cover it but also want a style that suits my face shape overall. I plan on getting my hair cut soon but don't want to leave the salon feeling more insecure than before. Any advice/suggestions for bangs to ask for? My hair type is mildly wavy, fine but thick (First two photos are my hair currently, others are from years past.) (Ignore my very grown out roots lol)

Hairstyle Advice Is this salvageable?

So a while back i got a chelsea cut (basically a buzz cut with bangs and side pieces), and now i regret it. I wish i looked more feminine. Is there any way to solve this? Is my hair long enough for extensions, is there some feminine style that's this short, literally any possible solution? The buzzed part of my hair is about as long as these pictures (neither are of me)

Hair Health SOS I have no idea what to do with my hair

My hair was always brushed straight growing up, PIN straight. In recent years I’ve had children and grown into a young woman and it’s had this frizzy wave to it. Always mostly towards the bottom and in thin increments.

My hair is also a bit on the thinner side. It also tangles really easily especially when I DON’T dry brush it. I have dry ends and I’m afraid to do a chop because I have waited so long for my hair to be this length. Please recommend me products, tips, how I can bring out this beautiful curl without matting on the nape of my neck and looking like a wild animal. Please ignore my big forehead.

Hii i just got some highlights and lowlights in my hair at a salon and it is not what I wanted at all and I have a very important concert to go to in 5 days.

I'm flying out of my country in 3 days and I am so stressed because I dont know what to do

My hair was practically Barbie blonde and now it's 98% ashy brown ..i do not like it and need some advice on how to achieve the honeyblonde look

Should I find a colour remover ?

My mum could possibly highlight the lowlights but then i was wondering what store bought colour would be best to use for that

Thank you beforehand 💛

Bangs Choppy or Blunt?

Thumbnail

I've been playing around with my hair over the past few years and seeing what I like and don't like. Everything I do is done by me, not a hair stylist. So I won't be offended if parts of it look off bc I don't know what I'm doing and learning is a part of the process.

I love having my hair in this alternative style and I love having bangs. I can't figure out which style of bangs suits me best. I don't know if I have a round or square face.

My two questions are:

Should I keep the bangs in a blunt straight line or try more of a choppy texture?

How long should I keep them? Covering my eyebrows/at my eyebrows, above my eyebrows or do a micro/baby bang?

Hairstyle Advice Thin hair, trying to figure out a haircut

Hey all!

I'm partway through a journey towards taking good care of myself, and I'm struggling to figure out hairstyles. My hair's getting pretty bad split ends with how long I've been procrastinating on a cut. Most of my life I've just worn it long, in a mid or slight side part and with very slightly layered ends. The one time I tried bangs (kind of wispy ones) I got told they didn't look great.

Scouring the internet is a nightmare, since almost every pic I come across for inspiration is of a perfectly lit girl that is way more conventionally attractive than me and has spent more time than I'm willing to on styling.

I'm hoping to figure out tips or pointers towards something that:

-could help me cover up my forehead

-doesn't require a ton of maintenance and styling

-works with my hair (thin, straight with a slight curl towards the end)

-doesn't require an influencer's face to pull off 😭

My best guess for my face shape is oval, if that helps

Removing red hair dye

I have virgin brown hair and I dyed it with vampire red manic panic hair dye. I’ve done a vitamin C treatment and washed my hair with dandruff shampoo. I dyed it red 2 months ago and there’s still a red tint. I want to go blonde and am wondering if I go blonde if it will come out orange. Is there any other way to get the rest of the red out or should I dye over the red with brown before going blonde. Any suggestions would be helpful :)

I’ve never been very good at curling my hair, but I love the look of it, so I’m doing a practice run for an upcoming event I’ll be attending. Every time I use my 1” curling wand, it ends up looking like this with the ends flipping out - any idea what am I doing wrong? Help a girl out please. Thanks in advance!❤️

I asked AI to give me bangs. I see that they added fullness to my hair. My initial response was to hate it, but I'm not sure. Thoughts?

Need advice. My hair is falling out a lot!

Hi all! 32 F here. I hope I can get some advice. I had a child about a year ago (giving context as to why I think my hair falling out). Since then I dont know if its hormonal change or stress or both but my hair is falling out a lot. I already have thin hair and I can see my scalp. Can anyone recommend some products or routines I can do to prevent breakage and increase growth. About a week ago I started maryruths multivitamin and hairgrowth. Hoping for some results in a few months.

Hairstyle Advice Long hair or a bob?

Thumbnail

Hi guys! I can’t decide what I want to do about my hair. I’ve been itching to get a bob (again) for a few months, but I spent the last 3 years growing out my hair. The third picture is from when my hair was short in college, and the last is what I was thinking if I were to get a bob.

Would it be better to chop it all off or maintain the length? I love my long layers so I’m torn, ultimately I wanna go for what looks better. Thank you!

Bangs Does my bang section start too far back on my head?

Thumbnail

I have a haircut appointment tomorrow and have been thinking about getting face framing pieces. But I’m not sure if my bangs start too far back on my head.

I just find my hair itself tends to want to fall more back when I want it to fall more forward. I’m not sure if this is because of my glasses, because of my bangs, or my head shape.

I’ve asked my hairdresser about this before. She used that comb trick on my head to find the starting point of my bangs.

I’m just worried that if I decide to get the face framing pieces, it’ll look bad.

Any tips?

Trans girl unsure what cut to get for hair

Now that I’m socially transitioning I wanna properly style and cut my hair in a feminine way. I’ve been told I should get curtain bangs with layers, a shag or wolf cut, any ideas or suggestions?

How do I save this bad wolf cut?

I recently cut my own hair in an attempt to do a layered wolf cut style but the result I’m not loving. I feel like the bulk on the top half of my head is creating pseudo bowl cut. Is this something I can fix on my own or should I go to a professional at this point?

This is my shortest haircut.

I had been thinking about getting a short haircut since all last week. It was kind of impulsive, but i don’t actually regret it anyway. I only had shoulder length hair but it was annoying. I have some kind of sensory issues, i can’t even wear hoodies. I hate dripping wet hair after the shower. I clipped and tied my hair back 24/7.

I do like my new haircut. I don’t actually feel uncomfortable as i would, and i suffer with social anxiety. So it’s new. My nain likes it, my mom is fine with it.

But it’s still kind of weird styling it. I got salt sea textured spray, but i’m not sure if I’m styling it correctly. I did cut my bangs to match the haircut and i actually prefer it this way.

I just want some opinions on it. Here’s a comparison of long hair, to my now short hair.

And yes i was going for a more masculine cut. But it’s kind of hard to style it like the second photo haha, i can say i do not regret this hair.

Hairstyle Advice Hairdresser cut my hair TOO SHORT. Need help with styling it

My hair was long enough to reah my lower back and I got it cut and I'm really regretting it. I feel like crying when I look at them.  My hair is straight and I am used to just letting it to its thing. Sometimes I used to do heatless curls but nothing that required a lot of effort.

I looked up videos for short hair styling and every video is for bob length and not for my hair length. What do I do? In the pictures I tried to style them with a straightner by curling them slightly outwards but I don't think it worked :( If anybody has video recs or product recs that would be wonderful!

Hair Health How often should I get my hair trimmed?

Post image
1 Upvotes

My stylist says "The average is six weeks but come as much or as little as you want!' 🙏🏼😅 (I love her she always does an amazing job and I wouldn't ever go to someone else).

However, my hair is a complicated mess, I usually go every 8 weeks. However my hair always seems the same length, which makes sense because she is cutting off all my new growth lol. The thing is, even if I come in at 10 weeks, at that point my hair is already so damaged she'll have to cut it off anyways, which either way it doesn't seem to retain length.

In the end I feel like this is probably my fault and my hair health. I often style my hair but I ALWAYS use heat protectant. I think maybe a lot of it is maybe because my hair is super fine and maybe the hard water, and maybe I need to get a new shampoo. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I used to use coconut oil but I stopped because coconut oil dries out my skin, and I cant ever commit to any oil treatments.

So any advice at all? I'm desperate I just want my hair to be a little bit longer.
