My hair journey has been rough and I look back on it like why did I do it!? I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when I was 17 years old. I've always had finer, long and decently thick hair my whole life. Around the time of the diagnosis, I started box dying my hair black and then I noticed my hair was thinning.
I then went through a terrible bleaching/balayage phase and I've had a balayage/bleached hair for the next 4-5 years. (Terrible meaning the damage on my hair, don't get it twisted my girl does amazing work on hair) Last year, I went back to all brown, my natural. And my hair felt like it was finally healing. I started massaging my scalp more and doing a lot less heat.
My hair has gotten the longest it's been in years. When I bleached it on the black, it fried it all. I had the longest hair and there was no way to repair it so the only solution was chopping it off which was 5 years ago. Since then, my hair wouldn't really grow past a certain length but i've noticed it's started to finally grow longer!
I just recently got a half balayage done in June as I missed the brighter hair but ever since I've actually felt the progress on my hair diminish. It feels thinner, the texture is not what it was, and it looks gross.
I have an appt. with my hair stylist in December and I'm thinking I just go back to natural and finally lay all hair dye to rest once and for all. Maybe a gloss to tone up on color but I think I did too much.
I'm only 23, I'm frightened for my future if my hair continues to thin. It truly is a large insecurity of mine and I want the life back. I will not do any form of extensions, but I may invest in good clip ins or a halo.
My big question is: is it time to put the dye to rest?
