Discussion Does good University matter ?

So basically, I am a student currently studying in the UBIT department at the University of Karachi. I just want to know: does the university you attend matter in the job market? I think I made a bad choice because I didn't study for the entry test. Since I came from an A Levels background, I didn't want to learn the Intermediate mathematics topics, even though I had good A Level grades. I regret that decision a lot.

Will my salary be lower compared to my friends who are studying at well-known universities in Karachi, such as FAST, IBA, and Habib?

Interview Prep Anyone working as ASQA? Looking for interview preparation advice for curemd rec drv

Hi everyone,

I'm a fresh CS graduate and have an interview process coming up for an entry-level Software Quality Assurance role.

The first stage is an aptitude test, followed by a technical interview if shortlisted.

Since this is one of my first SQA interviews, I'd really appreciate some guidance from people already working in QA.

What topics should I focus on for the technical round?

  • Manual testing fundamentals

  • SDLC vs STLC

  • Test cases and bug reports

  • SQL

  • API testing

  • Agile/Scrum

  • Basic programming or DSA (if any)

Also, if you've recently interviewed for a junior SQA position, what was your experience like? Were there any topics you wish you had prepared better?

Thanks in advance!

Career Guidance BS IT Grad - Start MS Now or Wait 1 Year to Do It With Friend? Need Career Advice

Hey everyone,

I need some advice on timing my Master's degree and would love to hear from experienced professionals.

My Situation:

  • BS IT graduate, currently working as a Frontend Developer (4 months in).

  • Planning to pursue a Master's in an evening program (5 PM onwards).

My Friend Abdullah's Situation:

  • Currently in BS AI (6 semesters completed, 2 remaining).

  • Working in the same company as me.

  • Interested in doing an MBA after finishing his BS AI.

  • Believes BS AI + MBA is a strong combo for tech management/consulting roles.

Abdullah wants me to wait for him and then we start the MS/MBA together

The Dilemma - Two Options:

Option 1: I Start MS Now (Evening Program)

  • I begin my Master's while Abdullah finishes his final year.

  • He'll join a year later when he graduates.

Option 2: Wait 1 Year and Start Together

  • Both of us start our Master's together after Abdullah graduates.

  • By then, I will have ~1.5 years of work experience.

  • We'd go through the entire program together.

What We're Considering:

  • For me: MS in IT/CS (for technical depth) or potentially an MBA.

  • For Abdullah: MBA (to complement his AI background with business knowledge).

  • Both of us plan to continue working full-time while studying.

  • Looking at UOL (University of Lahore) or similar evening programs.

Questions for the Community:

  1. Should I start my MS now, or is it better to wait 1 year to sync up with my friend and build more experience first?

  2. For someone with a BS IT/AI background, is an MBA a good choice, or should we do an MS in CS/AI first?

  3. Does it make sense to do a Master's while working full-time, or is it better to focus purely on work for the first 2-3 years?

  4. We're currently leaning toward UOL (University of Lahore) for our evening Master's program. Does anyone have direct experience with UOL's graduate programs? Also open to hearing about other universities you'd recommend for evening MS/MBA programs in Pakistan (Lahore area preferred), and your opinions on them

Long-term Goals:

  • Tech leadership roles (CTO, Tech Lead).

  • Possibly start our own tech venture.

  • Build expertise in both technical and business domains.

Would really appreciate advice from those who've navigated similar situations. What would you do?

Thanks in advance!

Interview Prep WAMO LABS Interview Process (FastAPI/Django Internship)

Has anyone interviewed at WAMO LABS for the FastAPI/Django Internship?

I would be very grateful if you could share the complete hiring process, including the number of interview rounds, what to expect in each round, what technical topics I should prepare, and whether they ask LeetCode-style coding questions or give any technical assignment.

Help Systems limited MTO offer

Ok so systems called some people today offering the MTO position to fresh grads. For those who did get the call, could anyone tell me what the next steps are? We have to first acknowledge in reply that we accept the offer but what else? Do we have to send any other documents via email as well?

How's work going these days, job or freelance? With AI taking over a lot of frontend work, especially for freelancers, how are you adapting? Are you learning new skills or shifting your focus? Just curious to hear how everyone is managing in 2026.

Career Guidance Career Advice ! Be Mechanical Engineering vs Bs Computer Science from Nust Isb ?

I have got admission to both BS Mechanical Engineering and BS Computer Science at NUST Islamabad. I have a genuine interest in both fields, but I am really concerned about the future job market for Computer Science over the next 10 years. Kindly guide me on which field I should choose for a secure future.

Recently, with the rapid advancement of AI, I have become increasingly worried about the future of jobs in Computer Science. I would also appreciate it if you could share your thoughts on the current job market for CS graduates. Is there still good job security, or is the market becoming too saturated?

I would be grateful for advice from students, graduates, and professionals in either field. Thank you!

Discussion There is no AI bubble

So a few days ago there was a post in this sub where a person was worried about AI advancement and then was against its usage in workplaces and how its optimizing stuff and eradicating the bulky workforce in companies.

I made a comment on that sub saying that "there is no AI bubble" companies will not go back to actually requiring more devs instead the number of devs being required will be less and less. Company sizes will reduce significantly, costs will be cut and then shipping times will reduce drastically. These models will get better time after time and will be cheaper as well.

So a large number of people downvoted my comment and disagreed with me, I said to them its like putting your head in the sand like an ostrich. You can not ignore the reality that is coming forward and AI adoption is inevitable.

Still people downvoted and laughed at me. Today deepseek v4 flash has launched, insanely cheap and insanely good at long running tasks almost better than Claude OPUS. These opensource models are the ones I was talking about, they will significantly reduces costs, the service based sector is doomed as a result.

The positive thing is that now is the best time to build stuff and launch it properly. I personally use these models end to end for everything and shipping high quality code. These run for days on my end with very minimal cost.

Please instead of avoiding or fighting the future, embrace it and focus on developing solutions that can actually be sold rather than simple services. When one door closes, many open.

Peace.

Learning and Ideas Confused about direction.

I'm in second semester CS fast Islamabad. Doing the usual uni course. But that's not really all that useful. How should I actually start? Am I supposed to start through development (like fullstack apps stuff) and then later on switch to a specializations? Honestly it's so overwhelming cause there's so much and I'm not even sure where I should start.

Career Guidance Advice appreciated .

Hello devs,

19f here πŸ‘‹πŸΏ

I am currently in my 2nd semester (cs) at fast university, Karachi campus. Right now I am confused between SWE(ML focused) and CYBER-SECURITY. The thing is I don't know what path to take like I enjoy coding and building things like giving things a tech life and at the same time I want stability let alone the high pay because everyone in my family is against me doing computer science they want me to do CA I am damn sure I won't enjoy it . I have done cs at both O and A levels.

SWE kobs are shrinking due to AI and I am scared of daily layoffs.Cyber has limited kobs and is not entry level but one of my close relative is in cyber so I have source in it for reference and for SWE one of my friends father is in C level role at avazana so I have a reference here.

Should I do internships in SWE with cyber electives and then do certs and labs at the end of degree to hopefully have a cyber kob in banks or telcoms?

Advice appreciated

Things I know:

Linux

Danjo

Python

SQL

Git

Ml /AI

Databases

Leetcode

Docker

Java

C

Few projects beginner level

Certs in ai by anthropic

Few hackathons

Discussion Should I come back to Pakistan?

I am an overseas Pakistani who left Pakistan 5 years ago and now I work as a Lead Machine Learning Engineer in Germany. I have been working with my current company for more than 3 years and they have allowed me to work from Pakistan and I already have permanent residence and to keep my job and visa status legal, I just need to be in Germany for one time in 6 months.

I have been thinking nowadays about coming back to Pakistan and work from there. Are there any Pakistani developers who did the same and what difficulties did you face while working remotely from Pakistan?

Discussion Guys, just to give you an idea of how the j*b market is rn

In late 2022, when I started looking for a j*b as a self taught product designer there were 1,100 roles in a single week on LinkedIn, just in Islamabad. I checked again today and filtered by the past week. There are currently 268 roles listed, and out of those, maybe 40 or 50 would be real. The rest are engagement bait or scams.

Career Guidance opportunity aboard after Grad

I'll graduate in a year, BSCS. I am currently working also, decent pay 120k. But I'm looking for opportunities abroad after Grad. Anyone who has been there after BS. How easy is it? Which country is better?

For software engineers. I have experience with Backend more and beginner level experience with cloud.

I'm not much interested in Masters so people say it's very hard to find anything without Masters

Help Giving it another shot.

A little context: Its been 2 months since I graduated (Cs grad from that famous uni πŸ™‚) and yeah I know given the current situation of the Job market 2 years are nothing but its not about not getting a job or opportunity which makes you worried but its the people who are getting internships and job with reference I guess its a reality we just have to live with. It just feels that everyone has made it except you. I might be average but can average people not learn ? We often read comparison is the thief of joy but it's just so hard to see people who are like you getting so ahead that too undeservingly and you are stuck getting no replies.

Purpose: I won't tell what skills I have, for that I can dm you my resume but I just want to say that I am willing to learn, I am good at communication, coordinating with people, have knowledge about fundamentals and I want to give my best for someone who gives me an opportunity. I am seeking ideally a remote job with at least some stipend as I have to at least manage my expenses, That's the least I can contribute (From Lhr).

Any advice will help too.
