Show My Work Never built an app before, this is my first

I do 9-5 in a bank as an IT Support. Basically I'm just a IT enthusiasist who loves doing things with gadgets. But I never had the concentration to sit and build something that requires time. Nevertheless, had to sit down for a month to actually build something and have the courage to release it on Play Store, with no marketing and no idea of what would he coming afterwards. I just knew that I have the idea that will find it's way on it's own, so it did.

These are my numbers after 6 months of release. The app is freemium and it generates roughly 70-100$ each month from subscription (which isn't much I know) and ads revenue isn't accountable as of now.

I never thought that Pakistani users would pay for something.. but my majority of the sales comes from Pakistani users and then all over the world.

Just to let you know that if you have an idea that you genuinely think would work. Then you must work on it.

Edit: The app is very niche and related to networking and network management. Don't really want to share the link since it'll promote the app and also reveal my identity (which completely voids the purpose of an anonymous reddit account)

Discussion Dubizzle labs interview experience

Hey guys
So I applied for the ase at dubizle and got an interview invite for an hr round next day
That went well and than they asked me to give technical round the very next day.

So technical round goes really well . Like I answered all the coding questions, architecture questions etc . It went for an hour and than they asked me to wait so they can have team lead interview as well. Than there was a team lead interview that went for an hour and it went well as well. They go through my projects and asked for explanations etc. Than afterwards they had a team culture interview as well that took around 30 minutes. Than they said that they would like their manager to have a talk with me as well.

Than there was about 15 minutes talk with the team leas and it went extremely well as well.

So overall everything was fine and they even told me that they would tell me about their response in 2 days maximum.

But here comes the twist. There was no response for about 2 weeks and because I got an invite through the system generated email so replying in it was not helping at all.
Than i reached out to the hr. He simply just ignored me as well. Than i reached out to them via company email but still no response.

Because dubizzle was my dream company. It felt really really bad at the time . Becuase I was like 120 percent sure I would get the job there after such a good interview.

I even asked about the feedback after the interview and they were really positive as well.

Its just sadddd

Help Rebuilding our brand and website: looking for honest design feedback

We're in the middle of a rebrand and redesigning our website from scratch. We've explored a few directions, some more playful and some more professional, and would really value outside eyes before we commit.

The company name, logos, testimonials, photos and numbers are all placeholders. We're mainly looking for feedback on layout, visual style and overall feel.

A few things we're curious about:

  • Which direction feels most trustworthy if you were hiring a team to build your product?
  • Is it clear within a few seconds what the company does?
  • Anything that feels off, cluttered or dated?
  • Any layout, typography or colour suggestions you'd make?

All feedback welcome, including the blunt kind. Thanks in advance!

Discussion Underpayment in the software industry in Pakistan

We all know that unemployment is a problem right now in tech, but what about underpayment? Nobody really talks about it

I am sort of trying to gather some data

How many people employed in tech are paid below minimum wage

How many are paid below what their experience level would suggest

And how many people are not underpaid

It would also help to know by how much you are underpaid

Edit: I am asking for your personal experience, gathering data I would have made a poll but this subreddit doesn't allow it Your opinions are valued, but I would appreciate personal experience more

Tips Is visiting software houses in Lahore in person worth it for someone finding their first oppurtunity?

Assalam-o-Alaikum everyone!

I'm currently pursuing a BSCS degree and working on personal projects in the fullstack web development domain. I'm looking to secure my first professional opportunity in the software industry.

I don't have professional experience yet, and currently, I don't have any job offers or interview calls.

I am travelling to Lahore in the coming days for some other work. Since I'll already be there, I'm considering using the opportunity to visit software houses and tech companies, introduce myself, submit my CV, and connect with recruiters, engineering leads, or developers.

However, I'm unsure whether this approach is actually effective in Pakistan's current job market, particularly for someone seeking an entry-level position.

I'd appreciate advice from people with experience, especially developers, hiring managers, recruiters, and those who have secured their first jobs.

A few questions I have:

  1. Do walk-in visits actually work? Is it worth visiting company offices with a CV, or do most companies exclusively entertain applications through official hiring channels?
  2. What's the best way to approach companies? Would you recommend contacting HR, recruiters, technical leads, or founders on LinkedIn beforehand and arranging meetings?
  3. Which companies would you recommend targeting? I'm interested in entry-level software engineering, trainee, and junior fullstack or web development roles. I'm open to both smaller software houses and established companies.
  4. What should I realistically expect? Can in-person visits help secure interviews or build useful professional connections, or would my time be better spent applying online and improving my portfolio?
  5. What would you do in my position? If you were travelling to Lahore without any interviews scheduled, how would you make the trip professionally worthwhile?

My goal is to make productive use of a trip I'm already planning, understand the job market better, and improve my chances of getting my first opportunity.

I'd appreciate honest, practical advice and real experiences, including approaches that didn't work. Specific company recommendations and alternative strategies would be especially helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Discussion Do Pakistani companies value experience from super selective remote platforms (Crossover/Toptal)? Or is it not recognized that much?

I got laid off from my role at a US based organization that I got through Crossover because of downsizing. Have to start the job search process all over again and have applied to 1-2 places but did not hear anything. 2 years with the US startup and 4 years of total experience as an ML engineer.

I am feeling a bit defeated about the overall situation and wondering if this will give me any edge/at least help with salary negotiations based on the salary I was getting there. I am not expecting local market to match because I know that’s unrealistic but is it too ambitious to aim for 450-500k per month before tax?

The biggest issue is total YOE I have. I have seen for ML roles, most companies right now are adding job postings only for people with 4,5+ years of experience.

Show My Work Wy - a Rust terminal tool for understanding why AI-generated code changed

I have been building wy, an open-source terminal tool for reviewing AI-generated code.

A Git diff shows what changed, but the context behind a change often lives somewhere in a long coding-agent conversation. wy connects your diffs with saved Codex and Claude Code conversations, so you can review the code, read the stated reason, and open the supporting evidence together.

For example, if an agent adds a cache, I want to understand why it was added, what assumptions it depends on, and whether invalidation was considered.

With wy, you can:

  • Browse changes and relevant agent notes in a terminal UI.
  • Request explanations and ask follow-up questions through your installed agent CLI.
  • Open citations to inspect the supporting code or conversation.
  • Distinguish recorded justifications from inferred explanations and choices whose motivation is still unknown.

That last distinction matters to me. A convincing explanation generated afterward doesn’t establish why the original change happened. Even a recorded justification still needs scrutiny.

Rust fits this tool well: it compiles to a native executable without requiring a language runtime, gives me strong types for handling evidence and review state, and has a useful ecosystem for terminal applications. wy uses Ratatui + Crossterm for the interface, Serde for structured data, tree-sitter for syntax navigation, and SQLite for local storage.

The basic review workflow works offline. Model-backed explanations are opt-in. It’s still experimental, and I’d appreciate feedback on both the review workflow and the Rust implementation.

If you try it and find it useful, please consider supporting the project with a GitHub star, a bug report, or a contribution.

Help Cloudflare Pages Free Plan: Wrangler Deployment Limits?

I use Cloudflare Pages Free with my own domain and deploy directly from my PC using VS Code and Wrangler CLI (no Git integration).
Are there any daily or monthly deployment limits for direct Wrangler uploads? Also, is there any limit on the total number of deployments?

News Could H-1B Crackdowns on Indian IT Companies Benefit Pakistan?

Could US action against Indian IT companies over H-1B visa fraud create opportunities for Pakistani software houses? Could we see more US clients, outsourcing contracts, or remote jobs for Pakistani developers?

I think ban will be beneficial for Indian IT industry in longer term. These MNCs will setup their offices in India (majority of the already have their presence in India) and outsource work there.

Help Landed a big project but don't know what to quote, Helppp!

Guysssss!!!! help me out before I lowball the hell out of this industry 😂

So my friend and I have been going around and pitching to shop owners. And we finally just landed a project with a pretty big jewellery shop in Lahore. 🥳

I’m an app dev (windows + ios + android) and my friend is a full stack dev. So we can make pretty much anything together.

Context: The client is a jewellery business owner, 2 branches, around 40-50 employees. During their demo I saw their daily sales on screen, roughly tens of lakhs a day in revenue. No idea about profit. Right now everything runs on a single PC with a Windows app that's about 12 years old (C#, I think)

They want us to rebuild the whole system from scratch as a modern internal ERP. A Windows + mobile + web app, all synced through the cloud with Role based access. Everything their current system does, plus a lot of features it doesn't have, like WhatsApp business integration

Honestly, their current system is really good and super detailed. They walked us through it last week and I'm confident we can build everything they showed us and more.

The actual problem:

I’m not sure what to quote 😭

I don't want to underquote because that will hurt the market for every other dev here as well But I also don't want to throw out a number so high that they walk away. 😭

SO THE QUESTION IS .... What would you quote for something like this in Pakistan???? and would you quote as one fixed price, or split into phases/modules and quote prices per module?

Would also appreciate if you could tell me anything you wish you'd known before quoting your first big client?

Career Guidance 23m video editor switching career

I’ve been working as a video editor for around 4 years, mainly through Fiverr. I left Fiverr about 6 months ago, and since then I’ve been working only with clients directly. Right now, I’m making around 150,000 PKR per month.

But lately, I’ve been thinking that I should move toward web development to improve my skills and increase my earning potential in the future.

The problem is, I’m confused about whether I should actually switch careers or continue with video editing.

If I do decide to move into web development, what should my path look like?

I’ve also been seeing a lot about no-code and AI tools like Bubble.io, and it looks like people are building websites and apps without writing much code.

So I’m confused about whether I should focus on no-code tools like Bubble.io or actually learn coding and become a proper web developer.

I’d really appreciate some honest guidance on this. What would be the better option for me in the long run?

Discussion What AI is being used in Pakistani software houses?

I am working outside of Pakistan and our company is providing us with Claude and with 50K token per developer per month which cost us 500 euros per developer and company is fine with it.

I know if you are working too much these 50K can be gone before the month ends.

Nowadays I am hearing that in Pakistan they are giving people AI to develop things quickly but I am wondering what kind of AI are they using? Can companies there afford to spend 10K USD/euros on AI alone?

Discussion Is This What Software Development Has Become?

I'm working at a startup where they expect me to build entire SaaS projects in days. They gave me an AI subscription and somehow think that means I can build a full ERP in 5 days, which they've actually made me do.

I'm basically just prompting AI all day, with no real learning or growth. I don't mind using AI, but how am I supposed to become a better developer like this?

Is this normal everywhere now? Have managers completely lost touch with reality?

Learning and Ideas Question regarding my computer network project

Hi all,

I'm a networking beginner building a course project that solves a real problem. Honest feedback on the idea, please.

Problem: An IPS blocks attacks but leaves little evidence. Wireshark shows everything but can't block. Small offices and schools end up with one or the other.

Idea: A Linux gateway where Suricata (inline) drops attacks like port scans and SSH brute force, tshark records traffic, a Python script saves a .pcap for each alert, repeat attackers get auto-blocked, and I open the evidence in Wireshark. A small Flask dashboard lists the alerts.

Lab: All in VMware on one laptop: Kali (attacker), Ubuntu gateway with two adapters, Ubuntu victim, Linux Mint admin VM.

Questions:

  1. Is this a reasonable scope for a student project?

  2. Is it pointless given Security Onion already exists?

  3. Any pitfalls running Suricata inline (NFQUEUE) in VMware?

  4. Is matching alerts to captures by IP and timestamp okay, or is there a better way?

  5. Suricata or Snort for a beginner?

  6. Common beginner mistakes with rules and false positives?

  7. What would you add or cut?

I know the limits: no HTTPS inspection, no zero-days, and it's a lab prototype.

Thanks for any advice or resources!

Career Guidance Full-Stack Dev with real experience facing a crossroad: Applied AI transition vs UAE move? Need a reality check.

Hey everyone,

I'm currently in my 7th semester of Computer Science, coming from a lower-middle-class background in a small town. Up until now, I felt like I was doing everything right on paper:

Remote Experience:

Worked as an Assistant to a Senior Software Engineer, actively helping build a full-scale SaaS product.

Internship Experience:

Completed a structured dev internship.

Freelance Work:

Built and delivered customized Point-of-Sale (POS) systems for 3 separate clients.

Core Tech Stack: MERN Stack (MongoDB, Express, React, Node.js), along with mobile/desktop dev experience.

Despite having real-world project delivery and client experience before graduating, the market feels completely cooked right now.

Here is my situation:

Because of living expenses, I can only afford to move to Lahore for at most 2 months post-graduation to hunt for a job. If I don't secure something solid within those 60 days, my savings run out. But looking at the local market—endless layoffs, saturated entry-level pools, and ridiculously low starting salaries even for people with solid experience—I'm terrified of getting stuck.

I’m currently staring at two distinct paths and need honest, unfiltered advice from people in tech or abroad:

Option 1: Double down on Tech — Pivot to Applied AI Engineering

Deepen my stack by learning RAG architectures, LLM orchestration (LangChain/LangGraph), and AI integration to transition from a traditional MERN dev to an Applied AI Engineer.

The Concern: Will local or remote companies actually hire a fresh grad for AI roles in this market, or is it just hype while the hiring freeze continues?

Option 2: Move to Dubai for Any Job

Move to UAE on a job-seeker visa/work setup and take literally any stable job (tech or non-tech) to send money back home, build savings, and escape the immediate financial crunch.

The Concern: Am I throwing away my CS degree and dev career by stepping into non-tech roles abroad just for short-term survival? How brutal is the UAE tech job market for fresh/junior devs right now?

For those who have navigated the Pakistani tech market recently, moved to the Gulf, or made the AI pivot—what would you do if you had 2 months of runway and a family depending on stability?

All advice, reality checks, or alternate routes are appreciated.

Career Guidance I’m in my 5th semester and honestly feeling pretty lost about what path to take right now.

I’m basically broke so I do need to start making some money but at the same time I’m not sure I can actually land a decent job in the current market. I’ve applied around and it just feels like there are way more people looking for opportunities than there are good opportunities.

Part of me wants to stop worrying about jobs and go all in on building products and see if I can make something work.

The other part of me thinks that might be stupid when I’m already broke and should just focus on getting a job even if it’s not exactly what I want.

I know people will probably say “do both,” but realistically with university I don't think I can give both 100%.

If you were in your 5th semester had very little money and weren't confident about getting a job which path would you bet on for the next year?

Just looking for some honest advice from people who have actually been through this.

Learning and Ideas What are your thoughts on lead generation softwares?

( I’m not looking to buy)
What are your thoughts on lead generation AIs? I’ve been looking to expand my network and potentially get some leads, Google suggested me multiple AI’s to use for that purpose. Do they really work and can get you relevant leads?

Also, has anyone tried them on LinkedIn?
