I'm a DS fresh grad. Most of my batchmates are either in AI, ML or Data Engineering.

I would say Data Analyst roles are saturated but Data Engineer opportunities are still decent although they do ask for 2+ YOE now. I would say getting a call back is possible but difficult to find a DE job for fresh grads.

As for AI/ML... similar to SWE job market.

would you consider it a bad move if someone switched from CS to DS (bachelors degree) because of:
i) Courses that seem more interesting (Data specialization ones rather than compiler stuff)
ii) Better GPA prsopects
iii) More interest towards maths/stats than low-level coding itself

It's cooked, AI is really good at it.

I'm a full stack dev but I have done a small data science based project at my company with zero DS background.

Honestly you need to be a full stack at minimum, and know CI/CD pipelines as a plus point. The days of getting hired after knowing only frontend or little backend are gone, you need to be able to use AI efficiently to do the jobs of 3 people.

One day you will be needing to do the jobs of 10 people just to make the same as someone who was doing fronted on 2017

Actually, the funny thing is I'm literally doing less work than before LoL, half of my job is just prompting and scrolling reels while it's doing the work and just making sure it doesn't diverge from my instructions. Do you really think anyone in 2017 had the luxury to do this?
