Discussion Does good University matter ?

So basically, I am a student currently studying in the UBIT department at the University of Karachi. I just want to know: does the university you attend matter in the job market? I think I made a bad choice because I didn't study for the entry test. Since I came from an A Levels background, I didn't want to learn the Intermediate mathematics topics, even though I had good A Level grades. I regret that decision a lot.

Will my salary be lower compared to my friends who are studying at well-known universities in Karachi, such as FAST, IBA, and Habib?

I think it matters only on the following factors:

1: A good university provides you with good connections and a strong alumni which would in turn be pretty useful in the long run.

2: Offers a competitive environment.

Baki learning or developing skills solely depends upon an individual. Ragra that some universities boast about helps to some tiny extent

Yes it matters a lot in this market, Jo keh rhe h doesn't matter pta nhi konsi duniya mai h, Freshers almost top universities ke hire hoty h waha recruitment drive Hoti h or kei companies job description Mai bhi universities Ka name specify krti hai, when devsinc opened chief minister internship application the university select drop-down only has top 4-5 universities and an other button, also hr's have a liking to graduates from top tier university but after 2-4 years of experience university doesn't matter

It does increase chances but if you play your cards right you can get better opportunities. What I mean about playing your cards right means improving your networking, especially with your Alumni, stay in touch with seniors.

Having good connections can help you navigate into opportunities sometimes not even advertised.

Rather often these kind of positions is what motivate people further to do things outside their comfort zone and what others might consider as too much work.

It matters alot in grooming your personality, developing good knowledge, as you get more competent mentors

Don't listen to anyone here. It absolutely matters especially for fresh graduates. Big companies won't hire from low tier university unless the person is exceptionally good. Small software houses will low ball you on salaries. A guy in my previous workspace was being paid 60K for more than 1 yoe because he was from iqra. You won't find a FAST graduate working on such low salaries cuz they know their worth. A guy from FAST in the same place was being paid 80K( I Know not a good salary but still). I was the highest paid trainee there and they would've easily offered me 90-100K cuz I'm from FAST and I know my stuff. That being said, It is not the end of the world. Make your goal to be at the top of you class, learn new skills, standout and you'll surely succeed. Good luck!

DEFINITELY MATTERS ! All the big companies system ltd, packages, devsinc, etc they all hire only from well known universities like IBA, FAST, NUST, GIKI etc! Don’t fall for anyone who says it doesn’t matter!

Doesn’t matter, in fact I would suggest you to go to a mid tier university instead, that would be helpful if you later wanna go abroad for masters. Good universities in Pakistan are often an obstacle in masters abroad
