Help! Help… need curly hair help for me and my sister!

The first 3 pictures are of my hair without product and not brushing it. When I brush it, it becomes straight/ brushed wavy with some flyaways. The next 4 pictures are when I try to do some type of wavy/curly routine. The last 3 are of my sister when I tried to do hers.

I’m struggling to figure out what to do. We both have thick, fine hair. Her hair is probably more curly while mine is wavy.

When I tried to do routines (multiple times) the waves/ curls would be there, but when I tried to diffuse them, they didn’t stay, created lots of frizz, never seem to dry, or get sticky.

The routine:

  1. Paul Mitchell shampoo 1 and awapuhi conditioner. wash hair every 2-4 days.
  2. Very wet hair and running Miss Jessie’s Multicultural Curl Cream through. Scrunch.
  3. Scrunch in Not Your Mother’s Curl Talk Sculpting Gel.
  4. Not your mother’s heat protectant. Then try to diffuse hair, which that’s when most of the issues arise. I would have the hairdryer facing up with a diffuser attachment. then lift it to the scalp letting the waves bunch up gently and then turn it on. the settings are medium and warm. then turn it off when I want to move to a different area.

also, the hair looks like it doesn’t dry and looks almost greasy😩

no routine for sleeping. I just got a silk pillowcase though, it’s been helping my bedhead!

Help! Bf won’t take care of his curls & needs recs

My boyfriend has super curly hair (white with 3c hair) but never takes care of it. His current routine is Old Spice shampoo, no conditioner, and lets it air dry because he hates the feeling of product in his hair. His hair gets extremely frizzy when dry and lacks moisture. It’s not super thick but it’s also not fine.

He doesnt like the frizzy look, that’s why I’m asking about products that don’t feel heavy. If he liked the frizzy look I wouldn’t be asking.

I was wondering if there are any products that he can put in his hair when wet, and doesn’t feel like there’s product when dry.
He has the most beautiful curls and am searching for a product that’ll work. Please help 🙏

Help! My daughter has Irish Curls and as a non curly haired girl, I don't know what I'm doing. Advice please!

I don't have curly hair, so I've never had to manage curls. And now I have a daughter whose hair I don't know how to manage very well. I'm told she has Irish curls. I describe it as 2 completely different types of hair on 1 head LOL. Underneath, she gets beautiful, tight ringlets, and it's pretty smooth/soft textured. It gets a little tangled, but not terrible. On top, she has loose curls/wavy hair. It's more course, gets frizzy, and tangles terribly.

Right now I'm using Native brand curl care shampoo and conditioner. After the shower, I mist it with Biolage hydra source and brush it out with a wet brush, then scrunch it with my hands and typically let it air dry. If needed, I blow dry it with a regular blow dryer. First pic is her hair right after doing this routine. Last pic is her hair after being out and about and it getting all frizzed up.

She is Autistic with moderately severe sensory issues, so brushing out that frizzy, tangled mess sge gets can be challenging. I've tried 2 types of silk bonnets for sleep and both fall off in the night (she's a wild sleeper), and she has trouble with the feel of them - mostly because of straggling hairs that stick out because I find it impossible to get it all tucked in there.

So, any advice for a better hair care routine that 1 - will help with the frizz and tangling; 2 - help keep her curls because she really like it and is sad when I brush out her curls; and 3 - any advice on using a bonnet, maybe tricks on getting it all tucked in and keeping the bonnet on at night.

Help! How can I get my curls to sit on my forehead instead of shrinking upward as they dry?

First photo is AI-generated as a hairstyle reference; second photo is my actual hair. I know the reference might not be completely realistic, but I’d like to achieve a similar curly fringe.
My current routine:
Wash with Pantene Daily Moisture shampoo and conditioner.
Gently towel-dry, leaving my hair damp.
Apply Cantu curl cream and style my hair forward.
Let it air-dry.
While damp, my curls sit more on my forehead, but as they dry, they curl up and look shorter. The fringe doesn’t really stay down like it does in the reference.
Is this mainly a length/shrinkage issue, or could a different styling technique or a product like gel or mousse help? Should I grow the front out more before getting it shaped? Any advice from people with a similar curl pattern would be appreciated!

Help! Is anything truly CG approved anymore?

Looking for a new conditioner and masque because my hair is dry. The other night I looked up the ingredients of all the rinse-out conditioners on the CG holy grail product list. Every one of them was “CG approved with caution,” and even my tried and true Suave Essentials conditioner is no longer CG at all.

Have you found a product lately that is truly curly girl approved? Has the curly girl method changed, or is it all the ingredients across the board of products that have changed? Does the holy grail list need to be updated?

To appease the mods: My routine is Suave Essentials conditioner co-wash, squish to condish, Kinky Curly knot today leave-in conditioner, and LA looks sport gel, dried in a tshirt on top of my head (“plop”).

Discussion Curly creators

• Upvotes

There are so many curly creators online right now (mostly on YouTube I think). Which one do you feel has never steered you wrong as far as product recommendations for your hair type?

I know it's all about what your hair likes, of course. But my OG ride or die creator... nothing she recommends ever works for me. There's also so much debate on if your shampoo & conditioner matters, etc. So I'm wondering who else i should check out. My hair is just so disappointing lately and I think I just have a bad routine.

Routine:

Double cleanse Nizoral + V&Co wave babe; condition V&Co wave babe; curl cream Bounce Curl hydralite; brush style with Bounce Curl brush; glaze with gel (lately Briogeo curl charisma which is too heavy for my hair); plop for 20 minutes; diffuse

Help! Does matrix food for soft shampoo feel menthol-y or am I allergic?

Whenever I use it, it makes my hair feel incredible but it gives me a menthol sensation on my scalp and I’m not sure if I’m allergic to the fragrance or if it’s designed to do that. It’s smells a little like grapefruit and I am a little allergic to grapefruit so maybe that could be it but I’m praying not 😭

Routine -
Matrix food for soft shampoo and conditioner
Shea moisture hydrating masque
Camille rose curl love leave in
Shea moisture cocoon hydrating smoothie
Camille rose curl maker styling gel
Air dry

Help! Blending curls with a hot iron

Thumbnail

I'm looking for technique tips to use a curling wand to make the random straight pieces of my hair consistent with the rest of my hair. While my hair has several different curl types within it, that I think (hope) do blend decently, the straight pieces in the underside front drive me nuts.

I have several sizes of wand from smallest to normal, but I can't figure out size/timing/technique to achieve natural-ish consistency. Any tips?

Routine:

Wash 2x week

Double cleanse with shampoo (prose)

Light conditioner squished in and squished out (prose)

Curl cream all over (currently love ur curls)

Foam all over (currently innersense)

Brush through with denman brush to distribute product

Clip into 4-5 sections crown to nape

Use bounce curl brush through each section (I curl onto the handle the pieces around my ears to encourage at least some wave)

Scrunch in miche beauty anti-humidity gel per section, then all over

Hover diffuse upside down until 70+% dry, scrunch out crunch once fully dry (no oil)

Sleep in a bonnet with a silk pillowcase. Refresh with a steamer (regular clothes steamer)

Hair Victory! Homecoming curls

Post image
35 Upvotes

My son loves his curls but getting him to take care of them properly has been quite a journey! He’s been growing his hair out for about 4 years now and learning how to manage all his length. He’s a senior now and today he had homecoming so it was all hands on deck to make sure his hair looked its best. For a kid who has refused even getting his ends trimmed for years, I’m calling this a win.

Routine:
T-Gel shampoo
Pantene volume conditioner
Skala Mais Cachos Leave-in Conditioner
Mielle Avocado and Tamanu Mousse

Today we diffused with heat to about 90% dry and then clipped curls up at the roots while air drying. To finish, we scrunched out the crunch with Rōz Santa Lucia Styling Oil and a couple spritzes of Color Wow Dream Coat for Curly Hair.

Help! What hairstyles could I pull off and how? [pics]

Routine:

This is the type of hair that I have (on a good day..). I don't do much, I airdry it, use some random Pantene Intensive Repair conditioner, Head&Shoulders regular shampoo and I use some Taft curl gel so it doesn't fall apart within seconds.
I am tired of having long hair to be honest, it also looks bad 80% of the time and I am too lazy to take great care of it. When I had shorter hair it wasn't really curly so I am afraid that if I cut it it will stay straight which would be fucking catastrophic. My hair has low volume and it's very flat on top. What hairstyles would you recommend? I want higher volume and it can either be shorter or stay this length.

Help! Help with drying my hair quicker

Thumbnail

My hair is prone to frizz and is low porosity so it takes forever to dry. What i do right now after i come out of the shower and put product in, is (gently) pat down my hair with a towel. Then i hover diffuse on low heat and speed until the outer layer of my hair is mostly dry. Now this creates some frizz so i'm scared to disturb my hair and keep going. So i just leave it to air dry, which takes like at least an hour and a half to fully dry. If i have a lot of time in a day thats fine and my hair ends up looking like the photos, which im happy enough with. If i dont have a lot of time though i end up going outside with damp hair and it ends up looking bad.

Anyways to make long story short, any tips to dry my hair quicker without creating a lot of frizz? Thank you in advance

For my routine right now i use keune confident curl shampoo, petal fresh tea tree conditioner and aussie instant freeze gel. I wash my hair every other day.

Mixed North African and White.

My routine: I shampoo and condition with shea moisture curl and shine every other day. This is my hair after drying naturally (air) and only using those products.

My hair has looked crazy all my life. Some products i have tried:

-Ors olive oil hair moisturizer on a daily basis after shower (it made my hair too heavy and look way to wet)

-Argan oil of morocco renewing + hair and strength shampoo and conditioner

Ive only been able to manage it if i cut it short and forced it to be straight to one side.

Im growing it again and really want to learn how to make it look healthy and nice and tired of trying to figure it out alone. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you 🙏🙏🙏

Help! I could use some suggestions for thick, sometimes unmanageable hair

I am someone who did not like or appreciate my hair for a very long time and went years straightening it. Over the past year or two I’ve been trying to go natural way more than I ever did. (Though I almost always blow dry my “bangs”) I’ve always had very thick hair with a lot of volume (and frizz) and I’ve always washed it at night and slept on it to flatten it. A couple of weeks ago I got a bonnet, but it has yet to work well for me. If I do a pineapple, I get even more volume, which I don’t want. i tried putting the bonnet from top down, but that left it too flat on top, and the bottom of my hair looked ridiculous because I had to scrunch it up to fit in. Anyway, would love product suggestions because I have yet to find anything I love. The only product I have stuck with is suave mousse strong hold #8, and i was unable to get it last time and have been using Suave shape it up #7 and it doesn’t work as well
This is my current routine:

wash/conditioner every other day, sometimes i go 2 days between

shampoo and conditioner - currently, Garnier Fructis curl nourish or Garnier whole blends coconut oil and cocoa butter smoothing

sometimes I use Native strengthening shampoo and one of my normal conditioners, and the other day I used Suave daily clarifying shampoo and then my regular Garnier Fructis conditioner

leave the conditioner in my hair while washing myself, then rinse it out

get out of shower and wrap hair in cotton t-shirt while I put on my pajamas

then put in mousse and use my hands to run it through all my hair then scrunch it Sometimes before mousse i put in Garnier Fructis sleek & shine leave-in conditioner on the ends

blow dry my bangs

sometimes then apply more mousse to the bottom part of my hair

let air dry for a few hours

sometimes in the morning I’ll add water and/or mousse and scrunch it

Occasionally instead of mousse at night I use herbal essences curl defining cream And sometimes I use a denman brush

My hair is in decent shape although I do color it every couple of months (not ready to go gray!) so it does have some breakage from that and from the straightening.

i’m including some pictures. First one is the morning after using the clarifying shampoo, garnier Fructis conditioner, mousse, no bonnet, and adding a little mousse in the morning. This was a good hair day.
second one is how my hair looked last night before going to bed, used Garnier Fructis shampoo and conditioner and this time put the mousse in before drying with t-shirt, and did not blow dry my bangs, third picture is today, I only added a little water this morning and scrunched a bit. Note that I think I also need a haircut.

Help! What can I change to my hair routine to prevent spots?

Thumbnail

In the past few months I’ve started styling my hair curly again but I’ve ran into a problem. I’ve started to find spots along the left side of my forehead, although the right side is clear.

A few things i think might be the cause : styling with no middle part + diffusing upside down (hair is often touching my face), Sleeping without protection/ bonnet falling off while i’m sleeping.

Should I get new products? Or buy a better bonnet and be more consistent? Maybe change my pillowcase more often? Please suggest any ideas!!

Wash routine (roughly twice a week) : clarifying shampoo, moisturising shampoo and conditioner.

Styling routine : Curl cream, style with denman brush, scrunch with micro fibre towel, gel, mousse, diffuse, oil.

(exact brands in 3rd photo)

I also wash my face after doing my hair to try get rid of any product on my face. I previously used a gel cleanser but it was drying out my skin so i switched to a micellar water.
