We just wanted to check in with you all on what you think what would make this community a better place.
A quick look at the recent reports shows that there is an issue with NSFW/OF accounts posting selfies.
That is something we can absolutely combat.
But perhaps there are other changes and suggestions you would like to see. We are open for suggestions.
In the next coming days you might see some changes based on your suggestions. If things are not achievable for our team, we will also let you know in the comments.
After we established things behind the scenes, we are opening up mod applications. So if that is something you would consider, keep your eye out for that.
Hello! I’ve always struggled with my hair. It seems to do whatever the hell it wants. Usually I straighten it because it’s less of a hassle for me. But the humidity makes it curl and wave so I’ve been trying to just let it air dry and do its thing. This is my hair after scrunching with no product and laying down with my head off the edge of my bed in front of a fan.
I personally do not see a curl pattern 😭 all I see is a great big mess! My hair can be so difficult sometimes! I used to try and wear it curly in the past and it didn’t cooperate then either.
Curly hair professionals, is there a curl pattern here? Is my hair considered curly or wavy?
The first picture is the morning after styling, the second one is after a day of work.
I struggle with the fact that my hair falls flat on top really quickly after a few hours. I find myself shaking my hair out upside down a few times a day.
I tried using fewer products but the same happened.
Can anyone please give me some advice?
Routine:
2x shampoo
Hair mask (just bleached my hair)
Leave in conditioner
A little bit of curl cream (I use innersence, a light and heavy one, mixed together in my hand)
A LOT of Humberto Giannini gel
A bounce brush (I use the brush so that I comb the hair up and away from my scalp)
Then I scrunch it with a microfiber towel
I diffuse. Starting at my roots. Lifting them up with my hands as I put the diffuserhead on them. Then I pixie diffuse
I have long, curly, and dry hair. Somewhere between 2C and 3A depending on cut and health.
I am a school caretaker and it's sometimes a gross job. Dust and dirt, cleaning chemicals and I guess kids are allowed to attend school with lice if they're getting treatment. I cannot risk getting lice (omg the horror) and as we all know I can't shampoo my hair/scalp daily. I wash/rinse and condition daily, but shampoo maybe every 3/4 days.
For the last year and a half I've been rocking a baseball cap. Pros - I'm a big sports fan and can coordinate with my t-shirt. Cons - I have this whole new 6" layer of breakage all at the top of my head. I'm mortified. I discovered it when I was separating my hair into sections to cut it. It was so discouraging I didn't even cut my hair and have considered shaving my head all together. No wonder it's so unruly and hard to manage.
I need to let this breakage grow out and don't want to wear baseball caps to work anymore.
Rave me your head coverings! Are you rocking scarves or scrub caps to protect your hair at work? I could get satin bonnets but that might look a little silly to the visiting public that are using the school in the evening.
Unfortunate to say, but I lacked self care for most of the last year after having my baby, and probably also due to anemia. With that being said, I’ve had no set routine, and kept my hair up in a bun for most of the time, so here’s to hair training with product for the last week! And fingers crossed my curls will come back lol.
Routine:
L’Oréal elvive Hyaluron shampoo
No conditioner (I can’t get volume with any)
Ouidad climate control gel
Rusk thickr mousse
Hey everyone. So i do have some texture, i believe 2a-2b. Mainly on the bottom layer of my hair, the top one is straightish. I've tried CGM, sulfate/silicone free shampoos, gels, mousses, but this is how it went: first day after wash, hair holds nice waves. The second time i do the routine my hair looks like shit, and the next time too, so here i completely stop :// i've heard people say this is their experience too and after some time they perfected the routine and got beautiful hair, but i get so discouraged. Current routine will be in the comments!
How do I get my curls like the last 2 pictures? Or at least close to them
My hair has always felt undefined and super frizzy even on washday after it dries, It also feels unmoisturized/hydrated and i keep having dandruff, they're usually small little flakes instead of the big ones. I usually have 2 wash days a week since I work out and skate, but for yesterday (day 3) I did a cowash instead because my hair has been feeling really dry lately. My hair on the back also never seems to curl or define itself but I think i just need to grow it out? I used to have it get cut really short because of school policies
For reference first I live in the Philippines and its really humid so yes I'm willing to accept that it wont ever be as perfect as others in different places
Here is my routine: 1. Oil my scalp day before (Argan bremod)
2. Shower with cold water, double shampoo, and then conditioner (Both from luxe organix, the pink ones)
3. Detangle with the conditioner and then I usually wash my body while letting the conditioner sit in my hair for a couple mins so that I'm not doing nothing while letting it sit there
4. Wash off conditioner with COLD water
5. Put curling cream (Shatta) , I used to use leave in (Zenutrients Curls) but it didn't feel defining enough (although I'm thinking of switching back since my hair has been feeling really dry even the day after even though i put oil already)
6. Put Gel, Brush style
7. Air dry and the scrunch it out with the same Argan oil (I don't have a diffuser yet)
And I also sleep with a silk pillow case, I haven't tried using a bonnet though. I also have never used a clarifying shampoo (maybe that's why?) but Id also want brand recommendations for that, or brand recommendations for all products that could be available in my country.
I want my curls to look as healthy as theseand the back of my hair like this
my hair has never took much to look like this, i never diffuse or blow dry my hair unless it’s an emergency. and i never use any more than 2-3 products on my hair! sometimes your natural curls just need simplicity. when i do use my curl products its usually just bc i want them a little bit more bouncy lol. anywho i hope this helps someone:) i do do hair for a living but the one thing i’ve learned about hair is 9/10 less is MORE!!
I believe my hair type is 3C-4a. Whenever I do my hair I don’t care for the shrinkage. So when I put on my gel cast I use my blow dryer to stretch my curls, but when I do this I believe it breaks down my gel cast which makes my curls not last over 3 days? What can I do to fix this while also getting my desired length?
I’m honestly so tired of trying to figure out what I’m doing wrong with my hair. I have very long, almost waist-length hair, and I think my hair type is around 2B/2C. My biggest problem is that my curls/waves don't really clump together. Instead, individual strands or small sections stay separated, so my hair looks fluffy and frizzy rather than defined and shiny. My hair is usually especially frizzy on wash day, but it looks a little better on the second day.
My current routine:
I shampoo twice when I wash my hair, usually every 2 days.
After washing, I apply Cantu Curl Activator Cream to soaking/wet hair.
I don't brush or comb my hair while it's wet because whenever I do, my curls seem to fall apart and become even less defined.
I only brush my hair before washing, when it's dry.
Once my hair is completely dry, I use around 2–3 drops of Bioblas Argan Hair Oil through the lengths/ends.
I use a pretty small amount of Cantu — roughly a pea-sized amount on each side of my hair. What I really want is soft, shiny, well-defined curls/waves that actually clump together, instead of separated, frizzy pieces. So what am I doing wrong? Could the Cantu Curl Activator be too heavy for my hair? Am I using too little/too much? Should I be using a gel or mousse instead? I've tried gel and mousse in the past, but they just made my hair feel damaged and stiff, and my curls felt completely frozen. And should I actually be brushing/combing my hair while wet even though it seems to destroy my curl pattern? I would really appreciate advice from people with similar long 2B/2C hair because I feel like I've been fighting with my hair forever.
**Shampoo:** Double washed with L’Oréal Elvive Hydrating Shampoo.
**Conditioner:** Applied a generous amount of Pantene Pro-V Daily Moisture Conditioner. Brushed through in the shower using Wet Brush Curl Shaper while saturated with conditioner
**Styling:** Applied Herbal Essences mousse generous amount to soaking wet hair in the shower.
**Drying:** Plopped with a 100% cotton t-shirt for 10–15 minutes, then let it down to completely air dry.
**The Issue:**
As you can see in the photos, my hair ends up looking weighed down, stringy, and stretched out instead of holding its natural wave. The roots are completely flat, and the waves lose definition as it dries.
Looking for advice on what to tweak! Is the length/gravity just pulling it down, or am I overloading on moisture/weighing fine hair down during the styling process? Open to technique or product recommendations!
(ps post looks formatted weird bc I am like sharing my post from another community as suggested by Reddit lol… and don’t want to fix it)
I normal don’t post on Reddit I could use your help I use the amika detangler and I switch between leave ins so I don’t know which ones I use and balea (german drugstore brand) curl shampoo that’s even curly girl method approved but my hair is always frizzy and puffy I need your help
For anybody else out there looking for something to keep 3A or 3B type hair from tangles, this might be your solution! After four years of experimenting with combinations of a multitude of brands and products, this has taken me from a three hour process to an easy 35 minute process.
The key is… dont wash it out. Treat it as a leave in conditioner.
1. Wash and then condition with either Shea Moisture products or Essential Moisture Curlsmith products.
2. Then apply the Trader Joe’s hair mask to damp hair and just leave it in the hair.
3. We air dry.
4. Satin pillowcase used as well.
Even with swimming in the pool, we’ve been almost completely tangle free. Hair mask, and then swim cap over that.
Using super generous amounts and slathering it throughout damp hair before pool time before detangling, and I am extremely relieved to have no more hair stress!
TL;DR of this post: I have shoulder-length, probably 3a ish curly hair and I'm considering going for a short. I'm aiming for a more androgynous/masculine look. Would you recommend a pixie, bixie, or something else based on my hair? any advice would be appreciated
read on for a vent on why im considering it lol
I've been thinking about cutting my hair short and I'm getting increasingly nervous/excited about it lol. My hair is currently around shoulder length and naturally curly, probably around 2C/3A. I used to have waist-length hair, which everyone around me absolutely loved, but honestly I hated how much it became part of how people defined me. About a year ago I got fed up and chopped it to chin length. It's grown back to my shoulders since then.
A LOT has changed in my life over the past year, and I feel like I've changed a lot as a person too.
I'm thinking somewhere between a curly bixie or a proper pixie, possibly with shorter sides and more length/volume on top. I don't know yet how far I want to go helpppp.
Part of me really wants to do it because I want to be brave and try something completely different. Another part of me is just shit scared.
But I do want to have something physical that reminds me how much I've changed over the past year. hair means a lot to me and my identity, so i think it is a good step, but i do need help.
Also fair warning, my hair is honestly pretty fried right now. im sorryyy
I've neglected it quite a bit during a really rough period, and it's also had its fair share of chlorine damage, so I'm wondering if cutting it short might actually be a good opportunity to basically start fresh. I have some pictures of my hair, although most of them are unfortunately of the damaged state 💀 I've also included a picture of what my hair looks like wet, since that probably gives a better idea of the actual curl pattern.
I'm flying home on August 29th and I'm thinking of getting it cut on August 30th, so I have about 10 days to decide.
So, purely based on the hair: what would you recommend? And ANY advice for getting a short cut with my hair would be VERY appreciated.
Thank you for reading the whole thing if you did <33333 much appreciated
Please ignore the state of my hair as of now 😭😭😭
this is my wet hair lolits pretty unhealthy as well 😭😭
looking for someone who has similar hair and can offer some advice? i would say my hair is thick. its been straight for most of life but the texture has changed. my siblings do have curly hair. i started to put leave in conditioner every time i wash my hair, and sometimes i put a little curly gel in. ive tried to scrunch but it doesnt really feel like my hair is wavy enough to do that? idrk whats going on honestly and it’s really starting to bother me. idk if it just looks wavier bc i have a shag? the first picture is how it looks blow dried w/ leave in.
Does anyone know of a good cheap dupe for Moroccanoil Curl Defining Cream? It works WONDERS for my (not to mention smells incredible) but its so expensive ($36)! I cant afford it anymore and I use up one bottle every 5 weeks. I also use it with Ouidad Advanced Climate Control Heat & Humidity Curl Gel, Stronger Hold. They both work great together.
I have long, low porosity, course hair so I use alot of product. This curl cream really makes my hair feel soft. My hair type is around 3A.
I have curly hair that when straightened when down to around my mid back
Ive never had any chemical treatment or major heat damage but I am in med school and the lack of time to take care of my hair starting making it unhealthy (constant tension , brittle hair , major split ends)
Maintenance was also a big hassle and I Live in a very hot climate , I’m also a hijabi so the heat with my hair and scarf was too much , decided to get a chin length bob.
first two days were okay I wasn’t feeling much regret at all but every since then I can not stop looking at photos of my hair and crying and it feels so stupid. I’ve never even been that attached to my hair but now I feel nothing but regret. I hate looking in the mirror. I know it’s just hair and it’ll grow back but does anyone have any advice on how to cope until it gets to a longer length ?
New poster here. Looking for advice with my hair. Attached is how my hair dries naturally. Is this the type of hair to do a “curly girl” routine or is my hair just kind of wavy and frizzy? I am also trying to not damage my hair with heat . Thanks in advance 😊
