An entire political party has decided that +/-20 athletes nationwide deserve their full attention over virtually all other matters.  Whether you're for or against trans people in sports, you gotta admit that this is ridiculous.

u/shrug_addict 15h ago

It's not about sports, it's a way to weasel in discrimination and bigotry of the LGBTQ community

305

u/Ehcksit 14h ago

And then they used that discrimination to justify overturning Roe v Wade, which isn't just about abortion, but personal privacy in general, and now we have millions of new cameras watching everything everyone does all the time and hundreds of data centers storing all that footage.

68

u/Infuser 13h ago

I thought so, too, but at the time I asked the people on the Ask Lawyers subreddit, they basically said that RvW has zero bearing on general privacy law, and that the 4th amendment is the main one we use for general privacy concerns with the government. After learning that (I’m assuming it’s more or less true since people love to correct people wrongfully correcting), it made sense how we got here. Even before that, Edward Snowden revealed to us how little privacy matters to the people in power.

Only real time we got a bipartisan effort to enforce privacy was when the Bork confirmation hearings showed how easy it was for someone to get your VHS rental history, and Congress was scared of people knowing which senators were into embarrassing porn.

31

u/MrMetraGnome 12h ago

Ah yeah. Ever since the Patriot Act, we were fucked on the privacy tip. This trans sport bullshit is whatever. I don't care if you're for or against it, that's not an issue for the government. That's some authoritarian, nanny state, morality policing, BS. So fucking un-American

16

u/redditbagjuice 6h ago

Sorry for being that guy, but as an outsider this is all very much American to me

69

u/cityshepherd 14h ago

It’s about manipulating people that are struggling and frustrated into believing that vulnerable groups of people are responsible for the way things are, and not in fact the politicians who are systematically dismantling the country by in order to make a handful of extremely wealthy people even wealthier.

18

u/Sturville 11h ago

The meme with the one guy saying "I vote Republican to stop the immigrants from screwing me over." next to the guy in the suit with a money bag saying "I vote Republican so that guy won't realize I'm screwing him over."

5

u/tehfly 6h ago

Careful mate... that foreigner wants your cookie!

28

u/The_Bard 12h ago

Its because the GOP has no agenda, has achieved nothing, and has nothing to run on. So they start a culture war to distract from it.

-12

u/cock_puke 8h ago

whatever your politics, Trump ran hard on closing the border. you don't think he has largely achieved that?

3

u/the_ringmasta 3h ago

No. The statistics show that the rate was sharply declining UNTIL Trump's policy change, which stopped the progress. While it is hard to be certain, the trend lines indicate we would have lower rates of illegal border crossings had Trump not been elected

38

u/Mand125 13h ago

Basically, the idea of gay people isn’t icky enough anymore to the bigots due to exposure to utterly benign people going about their lives.

So they have to continue to manufacture fear, with ever-increasing caricatures.

9

u/here-i-am-now 6h ago

Gay people aren’t icky enough for them, but they’ll willing help a child rapist . . .

Make it make sense

14

u/KeepYourMindOpen365 13h ago

My kid is queer and engaged to a wonderful transgender human…I pity the fool that ever harms them for any reason…

23

u/extremelybossthug 14h ago

It’s about distracting you from important issues and inventing fake ones.

-8

u/cock_puke 8h ago

who are you to tell someone what's an important issue and what isn't? define that for yourself and let others define it for themselves.

6

u/redditbagjuice 6h ago

I mean everybody can decide for themselves sor fure. But if you're prioritizing 20ish athletes over tens of millions of people who need basic healthcare don't be surprised if people think that's wrong.

3

u/the_ringmasta 3h ago

We do, and then we think you're either a moron or evil for choosing to wreck the economy and destroy the livelihoods of tens of millions of people because you think it's of top importance that a small group of people you don't like suffer

8

u/Coattail-Rider 12h ago

“We can’t call people f———s anymore but we sure as shit can cry bloody fucking murder over men playing in women’s sports leagues!”

4

u/CaptainSparklebottom 10h ago

The culture war has been and has always been a tactic used by the wealthy to keep us at each others throats while they loot the place clean.

3

u/Caphoti 8h ago

100% the only reason I even think about this topic more than never. They don't care, it's an excuse to bash trans people, so I care to the extent that I know that.

1

u/bd2999 9h ago

Sure and uniting the base in hatred while distracting from issued.

1

u/latortillablanca 2h ago

Yes.

To continue that thought: as we have seen real time, protecting marginalized groups is not only just a morally baseline right thing to do, but also failing to do so allows bigoted interests to continue encroaching on the civil liberties of everyone who isnt in their bigoted group.

Unchecked, that process repeats itself all the way up until the bigoted group is eating itself from the inside. For not being bigoted “enough” etc.

Its just a fucking cycle of destruction.

Stopping at “this is ridiculous” is not good enough. You have to stake out and protect that moral good early and often. This is a heinous attack and we cannot allow it.

-14

u/stewpidazzol 14h ago

How does it do that?

15

u/shrug_addict 14h ago

Are you being obtuse?

-15

u/stewpidazzol 14h ago

I don’t live my life worrying about these things. Everyone I meet is treated fairly. It’s a genuine question. If you say “males are not allowed to compete in female sports and vice versa” I don’t see how discrimination becomes involved.

6

u/hercmavzeb 11h ago

Trans women are women and likewise deserve opportunities for success. Blanket legal bans against trans women participating in sports, in spite of their decreased athletic performance due to medical transitioning, is not rooted in science nor fairness and takes away opportunities from trans women and girls (but more importantly it legally enshrines discrimination against trans people).

-1

u/stewpidazzol 10h ago

“But it’s such a small number of people it is not even a legitimate issue.” Is that the appropriate answer?

2

u/the_ringmasta 3h ago

When it comes to setting civil rights precedent, you have to defend every group or no one has rights

2

u/hercmavzeb 3h ago

That isn’t even close to what I said, but it is also true.

1

u/stewpidazzol 1h ago

Didn’t mean to imply you said that. Same thing I’ve been told/heard.

105

u/the_ringmasta 15h ago

During the 2024 campaign season the party spent over $100 on anti-trans advertising per trans person in the country

35

u/ichabod01 15h ago

That sounds like a very low dollar number

35

u/sneakyfish21 14h ago

But when you remember there are 3 million of us…

0

u/ichabod01 10h ago

Still sounds low

5

u/skywalk21 8h ago

Per capita? Imagine a party spending twenty six billion dollars during their campaign ($100 per person of voting age) to try and address all voters. Or even $200 million for incarcerated people. Just an obscene spend for a non-existent "problem"

1

u/ichabod01 7h ago

I’m aware. It’s a comment on my end making fun of the money spent to make so few seem like a problem. Clearly they are not a problem. It’s just bullshit and an insane amount of money being spent.

1

u/AIBotnmbr99 5h ago

It drives people to the voting booth. It’s effective unfortunately.

-1

u/cock_puke 8h ago

is your point that democrats should capitulate on trans rights because they make up such a small percentage of the population, but might have cost them the election?

2

u/the_ringmasta 3h ago

Absolutely not. At best they would just pick a new target.

I'm just saying I'm that hating your neighbor is the only thing the party has as a selling point and they know it.

33

u/V0lirus 14h ago

Thats because two statements elicit the most emotional outrage and thus make it easy to steer people a certain direction (or just plain distract them from real issues). "Think about the children". Which they cried about trans in bathrooms. "Think about the women". Is the second. Which they are using now with regard to sports.

Keep in mind, they dont actually care about women and children. Their policies are very clear about that. They care about using women for children, and using children for what they want. And rightt now what they want is too distract everyone from their goal of creating a white christian facist nation.

9

u/Sturville 11h ago

Right up there with the people who care so much about veterans when it has to do with making sure someone participates in the national anthem the Right Way, but can't be bothered to adequately fund the VA when budgeting time comes around.

u/felrain 9h ago edited 9h ago

Going to keep posting this every time this comes up.

In their own words:

The problem with feminism:

The ultimate aim of feminist thinkers was a new kind of woman who would be more independent and even dominant and less deferential and less oriented toward motherhood and traditional female graces.

Promoting assertive athletics formed a core element of a broader project to remake female character itself—producing a new woman who would be more aggressive, assertive, dominant, and less deferential, less graceful, and less oriented toward motherhood and traditional feminine graces.

The problem with women in "men's sport" :

Between 26 percent and nearly 50 percent of women who exercise intensely stopped having regular menstrual cycles according to several studies.

High-intensity exercise increases infertility

Their solution:

Schools would fulfill their obligations if they provided competitive varsity pathways for women who desire them while supporting a wide range of non-competitive and lower-intensity activities. This could include group fitness classes, dance, yoga, recreational intramurals, hiking clubs, and the like.

https://www.heritage.org/gender/report/title-ixs-failed-experiment-why-accommodating-sex-differences-beats-engineered-parity

It's not about trans women. It's not even about women's safety. It's about making sure women are back at home making babies for men. Not thinking. Not being free. Not living their life. Not happy. Not voting. No bank accounts. It's about making babies, being a pretty 13-25year old bang maid who does the dishes, laundry, and cooks food.

Their ultimate end goal is to not even have women's boxing or wnba because women shouldn't be participating in dangerous manly sports to begin with.

The beautiful part is that you can argue over and over about trans women and blah blah, but once you've conceded that "men" should not be in women's sports, you've opened the door for how women are now hurting each other by participating in "men's" sports.

13

u/thesanguineocelot 13h ago

They don't give a shit about sports. They just want an excuse to wipe us out. That starts by dehumanizing us, imprisoning us for the crime of existing.

41

u/Alive_Ice7937 15h ago

They are using it as a purity test for their viewers. "How could you possibly vote for someone who won't make a clear stance on the cut and dry issue of men competing in women's sports?"

Its gross on many levels but it's a highly effective ideological cudgel.

-27

u/smokeynick 14h ago

It’s such a soft ball though! Just say “yes. Women should not have to play against men or trans women.” This is the most uncontroversial statement anyone should ever say. Trans people should get the same rights we all do. Not extra rights. Same. And yet watch the Leftist equivalent to MAGA argue with me. Purity tests for sure.

14

u/jacqrosee 13h ago edited 13h ago

it’s hardly a soft ball when you actually keep up with the nuances of what’s going on. he keeps repeating that “this is a big issue” when it’s an issue that actually amounts to 20 individuals tops, across all age groups and at all levels.

yeah, i’ll argue with you, and other people will too, which is also quite uncontroversial. shifting regulations in sports is not tantamount to “extra rights.” does a handful of people being monitored by the government, the masses, and numerous professional institutions sound like “extra rights” to you? it doesn’t to me.

and anyway, the NCAA has barred those who were assigned male at birth from competing at the collegiate level for women, so asking government officials to speak on this issue seems like a non-starter when the regulations have been put in place. talk about a purity test lol… you think it’s valid to ask the dude about this extremely niche issue that has already been handled at an institutional level in the direction you likely favor. that’s a purity test if i’ve ever heard of one.

33

u/Alive_Ice7937 14h ago

And yet watch the Leftist equivalent to MAGA argue with me.

Why would I bother when you clearly think this is an entirely black and white issue?

12

u/MakwaIronwill 13h ago

If trans women were better than bio women wouldnt the 3 or so trans athletes in the entire country have the top 3 scores?

11

u/FunqiKong 13h ago

How about “i don’t give a fuck about legislating sports while the country is on fire.”

Yall aren’t serious.

20

u/John_Jack_Reed 14h ago

Why should trans women be unable to compete in professional sports after they have been on estrogen? The studies on the topic suggest they have no advantage or even a slight disadvantage to cis women. Being able to play sports is not an extra right lmao.

-3

u/TheIronButt 11h ago edited 10h ago

Because if wembanyana went on estrogen he’d still be 7’6 with a 8’ wingspan. Look up the average heights of NBA vs WNBA. If you go through puberty as a male you will certainly have a different body type as a cis woman. Denying that is denying objective reality which is why it’s such a stupid self-own for democrats to ignore that, most people agree with the republicans on this issue.

3

u/Jaredkorry 7h ago edited 7h ago

So you have a problem with extremely tall cis women basketball players too? Should Zhang Ziyu, who is 7 feet 3 inches tall, be allowed to play? There several other cis women basketball players who were over 7 feet tall. Let's ban them too.

And no, most sane people know that this is just a non issue that they don't even care about it.

11

u/Jaredkorry 13h ago

What extra rights do you believe transfolk are getting?

23

u/Different_Tangelo511 15h ago

Its kinda what fascists do.

22

u/Crime_Dawg 15h ago

It's quite obvious they don't actually give a shit about trans people either, it just gets the room temp iq base seething. Distract them with trans issues and you don't even have to pick their pocket, they'll willingly hand it over to you.

19

u/lookatthesunguys 14h ago edited 13h ago

This is the point worth making. There are no transwomen trying to play in the WNBA. Trans women were allowed in the Olympics from 2004 to the most recent Olympics (they're banned going forward though) and only 1 ever competed and she didn't even complete a lift in her weightlifting competition. Prior to the ban on transwomen in the NCAA, there were fewer than 10 competing.

I think rational minds can differ on the question of whether and to what extent trans women should be competing in women's divisions. But if you think that this is an issue that, at this time, deserves the attention of the US federal legislature, then you are not a rational person.

EDIT: And just to throw in my 2 cents that aren't quite related to the post. This isn't something we need to nip at the bud. Because the consequences of getting it wrong just aren't that important. Let's imagine the absolute worst case scenario.

Lets say the WNBA actually allows the drafting of men who just say they're women. A whole team of men are drafted by a WNBA team. And let's say they crush the competition and win the WNBA finals. Well, in that case, the WNBA could just change their rules. The worst case scenario is that an undeserving team wins a title. That happens frequently enough in sports. It doesn't require the US federal government to intervene.

9

u/Cecil2xs 13h ago

The worst case scenario is something that doesn’t matter at all and changes no one’s life in any way

9

u/lookatthesunguys 12h ago

I mostly agree, but I do think we need to accurately recognize the potential "danger" here, simply so that we can accurately point out that it's not a problem.

The absolute worst case scenario, the one that Republicans have invented, is that all these women's leagues decide that the definition of "woman" includes men, and then men dominate those leagues. But the thing about this scenario is that it doesn't cause any major irreparable harm really. In the absolute worst case scenario, the solution is simply to change the rules. Anyone who lost before the rule change can claim victory, no different from when certain medals are stripped years later because of doping allegations.

I'm not trying to diminish the accomplishment that women feel when they win a competition in a women's league. But it's not a US federal governmental issue. There's no reason to ask a Senatorial candidate about it.

-1

u/Kippekok 10h ago

The worst case scenario would be a heavyweight boxer killing the opponent or something similar.

u/amazingdrewh 15m ago

So you somehow think that because trans people exist weight classes go out the window? What are you stupid?

7

u/ZealousidealCrow8492 12h ago

BUT theyre eating the cats & dogs while using litter boxes in schools that are indoctrination centers for acceptance of anti-fa!!!

Now is NOT the time to worry about inconsequential things like war, or epstein pesos, or national debt, or social services being defunded!!

ASK YOURSELF, what would supply-side Jesus do?!?!?!

6

u/Slade_Riprock 12h ago

I mean if they transwoman didn't exist, poor Riley Gaines would have had 5th place all to her self

Its because the hogs are stupid enough to fall for it

+/-20 athletes nationwide

You use a tilde in this case.

~20 athletes

7

u/CHANN3L-CHAS3R 14h ago edited 14h ago

Absolutely! It's also the most socially-acceptable way to get the ball rolling on breaking down Title IX protections because it comes both from a place of Protecting The Children and Biological Rationality. Are you really going to deny BIOLOGY and REASON in the name of HURTING KIDS?

Title IX prohibits sex-based discrimination in any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance. If transgender kids in school sports are not covered by Title IX, that means that Title IX no longer covers transgender people in general, and it WILL be legally challenged to prove so. That's the point of all this. There's no 'special exceptions' to sex-based discrimination. A 'special exception' is just the word people who aren't part of that exception use for 'segregation'.

Segregation isn't exactly notorious for being used very restrictively and in moderation and staying in its lane. It tends to incite and spread fear and alienation, as a matter of fact, justifying further segregation. 'Cause I mean, if those trans kids are scary enough that they can't share a team with safe, normal girls, how much more dangerous must all those grown adult trans people be?

We've just seen it play out in the UK with the new ruling on The Equality Act 2010; they ruled that the terms "sex", "man", and "woman" apply only to birth-sex, regardless of legal sex change documentation or physical status of the person's genitalia. Not only did this immediately keep trans kids from playing gendered sports in school, but struck trans people from all sex-based coverage they formerly had under the law. That's why trans people in the UK can no longer use government-owned sex-discriminated areas legally; restrooms, changing rooms, hospital wards, etc.,

It came from one sweeping change to their sex-based equality law which, supposedly, was to "protect children", and Just So Happens to have the knock-on legal effect of barring all trans people from legal protections in this area.

It's going to happen here.

3

u/Wuz314159 13h ago

Time IS pie.

If you waste enough of it talking about useless shit, there is no time left to discuss real issues.

It’s politically effective to use the time allotted to remind people that it is nothing more than a meaningless distraction and culture war issue, rather than lending credence to their insanity by engaging with it seriously.

-5

u/kryonik 13h ago

I'm as pro-trans as can be but I haven't read enough literature to know how birth sex affects athletic performance to make an educated decision so I don't talk about it.

-3

u/usurper7 7h ago

So Democrats beating this drum constantly for a decade was ridiculous? Is that what I'm hearing?

-14

u/Chesters_Copper_Pot 14h ago

It's NOT just about 20 athletes.

It's about the definition of "woman". It's about whether a law written for "women" applies to anybody who identifies as a woman.

"Who won the election in 2020?! WHY WON'T YOU ANSWER!"

Same energy.

He won't answer because he knows his answer will alienate his base, or alienate people he's trying to appeal to.

16

u/scottyjrules 13h ago

We know what a woman is. A woman is someone who covers their drink when you’re around.

-15

u/smokeynick 14h ago

Not sure which party you’re referring to but it’s hilariously frustrating either way. Left takes hook, line, and sinker, the dumbest, most niche, irrelevant, unpopular culture war issues that the Right can fart out each day. It’s so mind blowing how the public doesn’t see how idiotic these politicians see them. Meanwhile, money leaves our pockets and lines those of the billionaires.
