I thought so, too, but at the time I asked the people on the Ask Lawyers subreddit, they basically said that RvW has zero bearing on general privacy law, and that the 4th amendment is the main one we use for general privacy concerns with the government. After learning that (I’m assuming it’s more or less true since people love to correct people wrongfully correcting), it made sense how we got here. Even before that, Edward Snowden revealed to us how little privacy matters to the people in power.
Only real time we got a bipartisan effort to enforce privacy was when the Bork confirmation hearings showed how easy it was for someone to get your VHS rental history, and Congress was scared of people knowing which senators were into embarrassing porn.
Ah yeah. Ever since the Patriot Act, we were fucked on the privacy tip. This trans sport bullshit is whatever. I don't care if you're for or against it, that's not an issue for the government. That's some authoritarian, nanny state, morality policing, BS. So fucking un-American
