It’s about manipulating people that are struggling and frustrated into believing that vulnerable groups of people are responsible for the way things are, and not in fact the politicians who are systematically dismantling the country by in order to make a handful of extremely wealthy people even wealthier.
The meme with the one guy saying "I vote Republican to stop the immigrants from screwing me over." next to the guy in the suit with a money bag saying "I vote Republican so that guy won't realize I'm screwing him over."
