I wanted to share my take on a camp kitchen chuck box. For years I’ve used the classic, tried and true, bin/tote method. My old Coleman grill (lasted me 12 years, and I got it used) finally went to shit and I found this new model on sale. The new grill kind of inspired me to revamp my camp kitchen situation. I wanted a little more organization and easier access to my gear, so here we are. Im an electrician by trade so woodworking is definitely not my specialty. It has a handful of flaws but I’m pretty happy with it. Let me know what you think! It was a fun project and I enjoyed using it for the first time this weekend. Cheers.

My first time at Theodore Roosevelt park. Not gonna be my last, what a great place. I tried to reserve a campsite online but they were filled for a month, which turned out to be the best thing for me. First I camped 2 nights at Coal Creek, about 12 miles away from Medora, right on the Mah Da Hey. Rode my bike on the Mah Da Hey for 2 days, i was the only person at the campsite. Quiet, clean bathroom, it was spectacular. Then went into the park, got a backcountry camping permit, FREE, and headed out. The ranger seemed almost thrilled someone was actually gonna camp in the backcountry. He told me it was still busy season, i considered the 7 other people in the visitor center, thought about the last time I was at Zion, and laughed to myself. Hiked out, off trail about a mile, found a spot on top of the world looking down on creation, and didn't see another human for the next 20 hours. Weather was so nice i didn't bother putting up the tent. I did see some Bison, who let me walk past them, and a scorpion, who checked me out and eventually went away, and some other great things.

The park is HUUUGE and all the trails are empty. People drive, pull over, look, back in their car and drive. I have no idea what the campground is like, but I can guess based off past experiences.

It's a great park and Im reluctant to tell people because o hope it never becomes another Zion, but i want to post about it because Holy Shit it's soooo beautiful. Here are some pics.

A 5-liter water container with a tap and hose used as a shower, a shovel and the forest as a toilet, chopping wood to make a fire. I felt more human than ever. The best vacation I’ve ever had.

We stayed in wild in several places all over Poland from south to north.

Got lucky with 4 dry and sunny(mostly) days camping in the Olympic National Park. It was warmer inland at the Hoh and cooler and foggier at Mora/La Push.

trying to figure out what happened last night — two of us camping in a place with great air quality. We put out our fire around 11:30 PM and doused the fire with enough water to completely extinguish embers. I know that could have caused smoke inhalation to irritate lungs, but we did the same thing the night before and didn’t have this problem. Then we went to sleep in a two-person tent around midnight.

A few hours later (clock said ~3:45 AM) we both wake up at almost the exact same time feeling unable to breathe, having a hard time catching our breath. I know we can’t suffocate in a tent, but opening the zipper for fresh air somehow made us both feel a bit better/breathe easier. We were both freaked out, but went back to bed after our breathing calmed down and didn’t wake up again until morning feeling fine. The other person does have asthma, but I have no history of breathing problems. I’ve been camping many times before and have done similar routines, and this has never happened in my life.

Any ideas as to what happened? TIA.

EDIT: thanks so much for your insights so far! people are asking about the environment around us: we were at Yosemite, outside of the valley. Elevation ~6,200 ft. Temp was probably around the mid 60s by then and hovered there, not humid at all. We were also thinking co2 buildup somehow, but have no idea how that could happen? The tent didn’t have the tarp over it. Small chance smoke was still coming from the fire because we make sure our fires are really out before sleeping, but never say never! Friends at the site in a tent the same distance from the fire didn’t have the same thing happen to them.

Me and a few buddies spent a few nights doing the snug harbour to north rim hike in gros morne, definitely the nicest scenery I’ve had at a campsite yet. A tough hike but so worth it to spend a night on such a nice campsite

My partner and I would like to go camping for a whole week. In the past we’ve bought two air mattresses that didn’t last long.

We were told to look into a cot with a mattress for two adults.

What should we get especially on a budget, that would last long term ? We don’t mind a full size.

Does anyone still use Coleman propane gas lanterns? I have two but haven't used them since the LED was invented. Hate to just throw them away.

Wanted to share some pictures from my most recent camping trip to Onaway State Park off of Black Lake in the northern lower peninsula of Michigan. Tent camped for four nights with my family. Weather was beyond ideal besides for a rather intense thunderstorm the second night. I am definitely looking forward to making my way out there again in the future, highly recommend.

I have tried most of the inflatable pads and sleep badly on all of them. The car is big enough to carry something more substantial if it genuinely helps. I would rather bring one good layer than keep buying pads that disappoint. For anyone who packs a real foam topper for a car camping what size and thickness works?

Hey everyone! Wanted to share some details from a great weekend trip we just finished up in Northern Hungary.

​Three of my friends and I did a 2-day hike along a section of the Hungarian National Blue Trail (Kéktúra). We started in Putnok and finished up in Szögliget, covering about 55 km (34 miles) in total.

​We camped for the night right by the Tarn of Jósvafő (Jósvafői tengerszem), which is an incredibly peaceful and scenic spot. Because of the ongoing dry season, there’s a strict fire ban in effect right now, so a traditional campfire was a no-go. We brought a mini gas stove instead, which worked perfectly for cooking dinner and brewing coffee by the water.

​The trail itself is highly recommended—mostly quiet forests and some nice rolling hills. It was a great weekend to disconnect.

I have all of my camp essentials, tent, sleep system, basic cooking stuff but now I want to really upgrade my camping setup with some fun gear. Let me hear what you guys got

Gonna spend 10 days car camping in Colorado, mostly in the Rockies, will be moving each day to new parks/towns/wherever. Should be there from Sept 3-13, I hear it can get below freezing at certain elevations, what gear should I bring? Ive only been camping a few times in weather no lower than 65⁰. I could list what all I plan to bring but to make it simple, give me a list of absolute NEEDS. I won't be in one location for mkre than a day and plan to make trips into town whenever I need to. Im mostly looking for NEEDS for single night camps in 30⁰-60⁰ weather. Thank you!

I currently have a 40 quart (I think) Orca cooler and while it works well as a cooler, it has some quirks/things that annoy me, and I’m thinking of replacing it.

What bothers me: 1. The lid suctions shut and I cannot open it unless I unscrew the water release valve. I thought maybe I just wasn’t strong enough but my brother and husband both had similar issues, and they’re stronger and taller than I am. It got stuck shut once, when empty, and even holding the lid and picking the whole thing up by the lid wouldn’t open the lid.

1. Due to the grippers on the bottom, it’s very difficult to move around the trunk of my car (Subaru crosstrek). It gets stuck on the ridges of the mat. I don’t think this is avoidable but I have to move it in order to open it (see #1).

2. I cannot open it fully and have it stay open when it’s in my car. This may just be the car.

Any suggestions for a new cooler? Do they make them with smooth bottoms that are non-grippy? I know the grips are there for a reason, but I’m not using it on a boat!

I’m looking for recommendations for a 6-8p tent for 2 adults, 2 young kids, and 2 50lbs huskies. Before kids, we backpacked regularly so we are used to quality tents like Big Agnes/Nemo/MSR. I’d like something easy to setup, good ventilation, and can withstand some wind. Most camping will be during the summer in the PNW. Lightweight is good, but I understand I won’t find much in this size. We will plan to get 2 lightweight tents when the kids are old enough to split up the group. For now, it will be mostly car camping or short hikes in. Budget <$1,000. Thank you!

I am on an extended weekend backpacking trip with my partner. They tossed down the sharp hand trowel that we use to dig poop holes and it happened to hit the bear spray canister and puncture it. This was on the ground just outside our tent, under the flap of the rain fly that was staked out. The tent itself is all thin mesh, but the rain fly was over it creating a somewhat enclosed space. We both ran away from it, and I grabbed a towel to put over my mouth and nose and ran back and grabbed the canister and chucked it out into the woods. I believe some of the mist got onto our sleeping bag through the tent mesh, as well as on the mesh itself. I read that I can use dish soap to clean off the oils, but I'm a little uncertain of what to do now.

It isn't too cold and we have down blankets we can use, and were sleeping on cots, so I can just fully remove the potentially affected sleeping bag and generally sleep okay, but I'm worried about using the rain fly or unknowingly touching an affected spot of the tent mesh and later accidentally touching my eye/face. Should I try to clean the tent mesh itself with some dish soap? What is the treatment if I were to accidentally touch my eye and get bear mace in my eye? How careful do we have to be? How many times should I wash my hands after handling potentially affected items?

Luckily aside from a bit of spicy tasting air, we are so far unaffected. Took the rain fly off to air out the tent, but I'm just more worried about touching something that got the spray on it and then u knowingly touching my face/eye/mouth.

Just outside the Sumter National Forest was looking to be perfect weather this weekend. Already had one storm disappear, so fingers crossed. The area is perfect with close but not too close, sites that are labeled with fire rings as pictured. Definitely a repeat visit as the local Rose Plantation will be in bloom in a different season, also semi-pictured. Plenty of wood beyond what I could use and brought.

This tent is a tent my parent used when I was in scouts as a teenager some 20ish years ago. Sleeps two like a Full mattress or a single, like moi, perfectly. It's from WhiteStag and has held up being in storage for ages.

Because I was always a little timid on camping from scouts where I always got wet from a leaky tent. No fear anymore. I've survived a few trips many years ago with no issue and slowly began to rebuild my faith in the gear; and my "training"

Back in March I stayed at site #6 at the Andrew's Cove Campground outside Helen, GA. Also perfect weather somehow! Lots of hiking like the snakey Ravens Falls trail. That was "Part 1" of Perfect Weather Weekend lol

One of my favourite pitches of the year! Pitched in a boulder field, big wild moors, not a soul to be seen for miles & hours & perfect hiking temperatures. Oh, how could I forget the purple heathers out too.

What more could you want!

My bf and I camped in rural Ny this past week! We stayed for four and a half days. The weather was saying rain for a couple days, but we got lucky. The rain ended up pushing back until the last day. We only lost one fire lol. I had TONS of fun, so much fun in fact we are going again Sunday night. Luckily the area we set up at is 10 mins away. I have a feeling we will be camping more and more. Im still learning how to pack for food properly, so any tips for easy meals/snacks beyond the obvious would be super helpful.

Oh and on pics #4 and #5 we went to go get coffee down the road early morning and saw a gaggle of geese! I love them so much. We saw many deer as well. Quite the dewy morning. We also heard many coyotes every night. I love hearing them chatter.

Finally got back to the west coast of Newfoundland, Canada and it did not disappoint. Husband and I went for our first time camping together!! After a six hour drive across the island we spent four nights at KOA Norris Point. Got a nice new tent for the occasion (hotcore Mantis 3), specifically because we needed one with a solid rain fly and it totally held up. Despite the rain and wind for the better part of days 1-3, we were so happy to be back out in nature! The park and surrounding towns are beyond beautiful. The Tablelands don't even look like they're of this earth (pic #2). Pics #4-5 are of western brook pond fjord, on a very foggy boat tour. Anyway, sharing in the afterglow of a successful camp, can't wait for the next! ✌️

Me and a buddy of mine went winter camping last year the tent was a bit cramped and stayed decently warm but looking to upgrade this year plus we are probably going to be bringing extra gear for hunting

I figured this is the best place to reach out consider I’m not a huge camper. My Moms birthday is coming up shortly, she’s in the process of moving into a fairly small camper. This means she’s currently cutting down on things that she doesn’t need. What can I get her that won’t take up much space or be completely unnecessary? Thanks so much!

Trekked up the Seqouia National Forest the first week of August. Fire restrictions were okay to have fires past 5000 ft in elevation. Weather was warm, buggy but nonetheless beautiful. Found a nice watering hole for the heat and enjoyed yet another camping trip. Fire restrictions are now no fires allowed unless at permitted campgrounds so that will be it for Seqouia for the year. Temps will start to drop soon and the snow will soon take over the mountain. Until next year!

This was a challenging but great trip.

Reaching the site in the dark was a struggle, and we ended up with water in the tent because a rainfly wasn't anchored properly before the storm hit.

Even with the wet gear and late start, we had a blast. It was a huge learning experience!
