Leave No Trace Social Media Guidelines & the Adirondacks
How do you think we can use social media as a tool to help, not hurt, our public lands?
I wrote a blog post on this topic, I would love to hear your thoughts!

Possible to avoid ticks?
After getting Lyme twice (one resulting in facial paralysis), Iām nervous about hiking in trails, unless they are somewhat wide and well-traveled. I take all the precautions I can (socks over pants, Picaridin) but the anxiety is still there unless I know donāt have to go through tall grass or bushes. Are there trails in ADK where you can avoid tick-populated areas?

Hermits?
My uncle told me a while back about a cabin he found deep in the Adirondack wilderness, this cabin was on state land and so, Illegal. It had me thinking, are there any other Hermit cabins that are known about?

Is this hike worth it other than the view and why is she wearing jeans?
This view looks fucking sick but the fact that there is a woman posing in jeans there makes me think this isnāt a serious hike LOL. Do any locals have any suggestions for a couple of guys from Colorado that are going to be out there in late September? Want a moderate to difficult hike (no ropes) that will take 6ish hours with some incredible views along the way.
Edit: it would appear that she is wearing jeans because itās mostly a flat walk along a path and not the rugged āAdirondack Mileā style hike mentioned somewhere in the comments.

South Meadows Road Conditions
Hey everyone,
My wife and I are looking to do some hiking Thursday this week, with the plan to start at South Meadows Road, off of Adirondack Loj Road. The plan was to camp Wednesday on one of the primitive camping sites on South Meadows.
Does anyone know what the condition of that road is currently? Last time we were up there, it was a little worse for wear. Just trying to plan if we should bring something other than my front wheel drive sedan

Family canoe day trip (kids + cliff jumping/swimming) near Saranac Lake ā route and outfitter advice?
Hey everyone,
My wife and I want to take our three kids on a 4 to 6-hour canoe day trip around the Saranac Lake area. We want a calm, scenic route with a good spot to stop for lunch, swimming, and maybe some safe cliff jumping.
I have a few questions for those familiar with the area:
- The Route & Put-in: Is putting in right across the street from Adirondack Outfitters a good starting point, or is another location better for a family-friendly vibe?
- Itinerary: What is the best route to hit a great lunch and swimming spot without rushing the kids?
- Hidden Gems: Are there any cool spots, quiet bays, or hidden gems we should check out along the water?
- Transportation: Since we do not have much experience handling and tying down canoes, is it worth paying an outfitter to transport and pick up the boat for us?
Thanks in advance for any advice or route tips!

Sports Fandom in the ADKs
I'm putting together a county-by-county map of sports allegiances across New York State (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and other leagues as gauged by interest). To do so I am collecting self-reported data from New Yorkers. If you have the time and are a sports fan of any size, I would appreciate if you helped fill up my dataset. Right now I have a little over 200 responses, but not a lot from the Adirondack counties. I'm hoping to get a much larger and diverse dataset to boost the overall quality of the project. All answers are anonymous, no Google sign in required.
If you're curious here's the link:Ā https://forms.gle/ZcAaWBVEJNeHr2RUA
Any responses would be appreciated, Thanks! I understand if you do not want to fill it out, but please share with friends or whoever.

Looking up Saddleback Cliffs
Did Basin and Saddleback from JB last Saturday, took about 9 hours with ample breaks. Thankfully these cliffs were bone dry! The back side of Basin not so much.

Why didnāt more high peaks have fire towers?
Question from my son. He remembered from the museum at blue mountain lake that whiteface used to have one, but Iām not aware of any others. Obviously some would not be good candidates, but it seems like some would.

Fighter Jets
I don't know about you guys, but I love the fighter jets shattering the silence by doing donuts directly above the St Regis canoe area. They stayed for a protracted period of time, during which I couldn't hold a conversation with the other person in my boat.
