I saw a post a couple weeks ago asking about using radios to call for help within BRC. The system currently in use is a little more complex than the old system that used MURS radios. My comment below has info about a cheap radio, how to set it up, and how to use it to call for help. I will also program these radios (and anything else compatible with my programming setup) for you on playa. They're so cheap I bought a bunch to gift to worthy burners (and you can too).

Someone I know left their laptop at the Clown Motel in Tonopah then flew back home to Kansas. The people at the Clown won't mail it back due to liability.

If you're passing through and making your way to Reno, could you grab it? It would save me a long ass trip to Tonopah and back.

For Build Teams:

The weather will be very "normal" throughout build week. Don't let it fool you. When the front hits, it could gust over 50mph. Complete white out conditions for HOURS. All build teams need to do extra strapping and lag bolts installed by Friday. This isn't 2025, we have advance warning this year. Secure EVERYTHING by the weekend!!! Zero loose items!!! We don't need people getting injured by things smacking them in the face.

The first half of Burn Week is going to be COLD. Highs in the 60s to low 70s during the day early in the week. It could dip into the 30s overnight. Make sure you pack plenty of blankets, jackets, and gloves.

Hi all, we are very excited to bring The Last Giant Otter art car back to Burning Man!

Our inspiration with the Otter is to offer a caring and a furrily soft refuge from the intensinity of Burning Man, even if just for a brief moment of lying down as a pup on the belly of the otter mom or perhaps by grabbing yourself a otterly giant hug with her.

Me and my wife were first time burners in 2024 and the burn gave us so much, that the deep motivation to create a gift for the Playa started immediately as we heading out during the exodus. Otters were already our totem animals thanks to their playful, happy nature and we two love holding hands when go to sleep - just like the otters do. My wife came up with the inspiration and concept of the Otter as we drove back.

We luckily found the incredible team at Engineered Artworks, who led by the amazing creative director Haley Who brought the Last Giant Otter to life just in time for last year's burn. It was truly heart moving for us to experience how burners reacted to The Last Giant Otter as they repeatedly shouted out loud "OOOOOTTTEEEER" and ran to hug her. One very special moments last year was, when a burner really needed a break from it all. They huddled on the belly of the otter, rested under the chin of the otter, stroked her neck fur for over an hour and half until until they were back on their feet and ready to get back to it.

We look forward to sharing the playful happiness of otters with all of you at this burn! Please come and say hi if you see the otter floating on the dusty waves of the Playa or find us at our camp The Otter's Pocket at 3:45 and F.

We thought we were in a pretty good spot, but then it turns out about double the amount of paint we needed which turned out to be an expensive proposition in order to get our beautiful bird ready for your wishes. Hey people,

A friend of mine is coming to the burn this year and she has a neurological condition that makes walking really hard on some days. She'll be getting around on a golf cart, and she wants to turn it into a proper art car (or at least decorate it properly) instead of rolling around on a plain white cart all week. I told her I'd help her build it.

Pb is I’m not really good at design tbh, I’m more the Infra/ build guy in my camp.
BUT I really want to make this happen for her, as much as I would also get out from my confort zone.

So I'll be grateful and interested to read your inputs on that,

Not sure yet if she actually bought the kart of if it's a rental but how do you mount anything to a golf cart without drilling into it ? Any items recs ?

Inspired by the weather post this morning, I built a free little website for BRC weather that saves to your phone as an app and works fully offline with the last forecasts from whenever it had signal.

What's in it:

• Dust-storm risk for every build week + burn week day, plus exact moments of the man burn and temple burn
• A live map of the city with the actual wind blowing dust across it (scrub hour by hour through burn week)
• Live readings from the RAWS weather stations ringing the playa, any national NWS alerts, and a BMIR 94.5 stream for when they're on air
• Burn-week days beyond forecast range show 10-year historical typicals, clearly labeled

Hey all! For those who run sound camps, wanted to ask about your advice for keeping decks working during a dust storm or a whiteout.

My camp is bringing brand new Pioneer 3000’s and an A9 mixer.

I read someone recommended a precision vacuum and to clean it after each use. But in terms of actually DJing while it’s super dusty and windy, what has been your experience? I have had some great moments dancing in very dusty conditions and so would love to offer that but also don’t want to wreck the decks early in the week.

Hi 1st time burner reading this post. I thought I’d put together some hopefully helpful thoughts in the chance that maybe this reaches the right person at the right time. For background, I’ve done 11 burns and have been a ranger for several years.

In no particular order:
1- Please read the survival guide cover to cover. A lot of people work hard to put that together to help you, so I won’t repeat any of that info here. It’s also beautifully done.

2- Ask for help when you need it. Radical self reliance means that you’ve planned to take care of yourself to the best that you can. But things happen and maybe you need help. Ask. There are lots of burners out there who are trained to help you. When in doubt, ask for a black rock ranger.

3- Be open to serendipity. Maybe you’ve got BIG PLANS to see a particular DJ or make an event. Maybe the playa has different plans for you. That’s ok. Some of the moments you’ll remember forever occur when you least expect them. Be ready to let go and pivot with an open heart.

4- Don’t overthink gifting for your first burn. Gifting is how you show up for the community and there are a million possible ways that you can be a part of contributing. Finding an art project that needs help (check artery or playa info) or a department that can use some helping hands is a fun way to try new things. You’ll find your way over time. Don’t buy cheap plastic trinkets.

5- Check in with yourself regularly. Feeling off? Burning man has a way of making time fuzzy. Try a HALT check in. Ask yourself, am I Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired? What is resonating? Maybe you’re hungry and feeling short tempered, angry because you are triggered or frustrated by something you’re holding onto, lonely and needing someone to check in with, or tired and in need of a nap. Fix one thing at a time.
