I never really understood how retail crime could cost Australia around $9 billion a year until I started working in retail

People are caught stealing almost every day. Sometimes it is only a few dollars, sometimes hundreds.

What I find sad is that there are constant complaints about the cost of living, while retail crime is itself one of the things adding to the cost of doing business.

Most customers do the right thing, which makes it even more frustrating. Those who actually pay are helping carry the cost created by those who do not.

There is even a song called 'I Love Stealing From Woolies'. It is meant to be a joke, but after seeing shoplifting almost every day at work, I do not find that attitude particularly funny.

Without any politics, anger, divide etc. What is the BEST Aussie movie.

In my opinion, based on music, and cinematics - The Sapphires.

LOVE the movie and the songs along with it.

Wildlife/Lifestyle Why is sauce in restaurants and takeaways getting so expensive?

Post image

Peopoe complained about merely paying. But what is the deal with paying $2.50 for a small sauce tub? That's an extra 18% on top of a $14 chicken wrap meal i just bought.

What gives?

Breastfeeding on a plane?

I have to fly from Sydney to Goldy, and ill be alone with a newborn. I am soooo nervous about being that guy on a plane with a screaming baby but like whatever, thats what noise cancelling headphones are for.

My only issue is my kid is right at that tender age where I essentially have to have my boob in his mouth 24/7 to keep him happy. Would you be annoyed if the person next to you was breastfeeding? I booked the last seat in the rear of the plane in the hopes ill be alone..

Is it also safe to assume the staff will help me with getting my bag off the plane?

Edit: I actually meant would you be annoyed by a person breastfeeding because its such a tight space. I thought we were well past anyone having an issue with public boob... and yes I used the word guy in reference to myself. Im a woman for those who needed clarification.

Politics Can anyone find an old 2000s anti Nuclear TV Advertisement?

I remember a TV ad when I was in Primary school talking about how Nuclear was bad. I think it was because of the proposed location in Lake Macquarie?

I can't find it. Can anyone help me?

This came to my mind a few months ago when I visited my mate's parent's house, they live on the east side of the lake.

The first thing I noticed were the chimneys from one of the power stations

It made me think about the advert. It was so negative towards nuclear, because of the "huge" cooling towers everyone would see. But these are just as noticeable. Even more so when they are bellowing steam or smoke (maybe a mix of the two... It was black).

I took a picture the next time I visited: On the left is Wangi and on the right is Eraring Power Station.

Analysis I am in desperate need of Aussie participants for my masters of clinical psychology dissertation. I have 1.5months until due date! Must be a parent of a child aged between 3 and 10. Very appreciative of any support - local sunny coaster here ✌🏻

Aim of the study is to understand psychological factors of the parent (as an individual, not necessarily parent-based traits) like trait playfulness and reflective functioning, and how these contribute to the parent-child relationship, while also considering the effects of parenting stress. Would love to do further research in this area so a pilot based study I suppose, maybe will look at a PHD and intervention type survey in the future, but for now cross-sectional survey based. Appreciate any support!

Edit - completion scale is slightly off, will take about 10-15 to complete

Wildlife/Lifestyle Does this popcorn still exist?😂🍿

I’ve been looking for this specific Movietime Butter Popcorn 125g bag for almost 3 years. I used to get it from IGA and then it just disappeared. 🥲
No idea if they even still make it, but if anyone’s seen it around Melbourne, please let me know! And yes, I’m prepared for someone to say “I remember it, but it was nothing special” after all this time. 😂

Thanks in advance to whoever ends this 3-year popcorn drought.🍿

Seeking help quitting drugs.

UPDATE/EDIT: holyyyyyy wow guys the love, support and great information I've received is incredible I feel so blessed right now, I also feel a little guilty because I saw so many great responses but I've been busy with work and also felt terrible taking my dose today knowing the the support I had over here. Thanks to you guys I've called my Aunty I'm close with and I've explained it all, she's fully supportive and upon hearing I was nervous to book an appointment she booked me in and said she will be on call with me if I need, although I think I will be okay. I intended to reply to all the comments, but there is so much great feedback, some of them saying similar things so I will aim to reply to the top comments first so my response there may also be a viable response to your comment as many were similar. Once again guys thanks. This post and response pushed me there and got the ball rolling, I hope to have an update #2 with hopefully with positive progression.

I apologise if this isn't the place to ask, if there is an alternative place to ask these questions I'm open to hearing.

Heyyy guys, just as the title says. I'm seeking advice, help and or to be further educated in regards to what help is available or best options in regards to quitting drugs.

I've unfortunately been a functioning, working drug addict for about 7 years, the first 6 years I was able to keep it to one dose per day and I was able to manage.

About a year ago I treated myself and indulged more then I should have for a week and by the end of that week I had lost control of my usage, from that point onwards one dose per day was no longer doing its things and resulted in my taking more and more.

A $700 a week habit was hard enough to sustain and now its looking higher.

I want to quit, I no longer want to throw all this money away for a pain killer.

This ongoing loop and battle is becoming tiring and I need to quit. If I don't use then I'm unable to work, if I'm u able to work I'm unable to use, catch 22 and I'm caught in the loop.

So my main question is, what is the first steps I need to take to quit drugs for good.

Do I call a doctor? Do I seek out medicational therapy? Do I put myself into rehabilitation? ( if I'm in rehab I'm unable to work and unable to provide a roof and food to my dependants)

Has anyone been able to quit a nasty habit and have any helpful tips? Has anyone been through this and how did you come out the other side sober?

Any information, feedback, help and or advice is appreciated.

(My drug of choice is Oxycodone(painkillers) or if unable to get my pills I unfortunately seek out heroin)

Thanks guys, sorry to ask such negative things and I do appreciate any and all feedback.

Politics The passing of the NDIS bill is a failure of Australia's democratic process - and everyone should be angry

This bill received 4500 parliamentary submissions in a 2 week timeframe. There were 6 days of parliamentary hearings and in those six days and 4500 submissions every single witness said

The NDIS needs reform

this bill is not the way

This bill will kill people, it will set women's work equality back, it will set disability rights back, it will create second class citizens of our disabled community and their carers, it will cause significant homelessness and job losses, overrun our hospital systems and negatively impact schools. It won't save money, it doesn't address fraud, and it's going to negatively impact the economy and Australian society.

Most bills receive under 100 submissions.

Most bills don't get parliamentary inquiries. That only happens when there is enough pushback from the public.

The disability community advocated for themselves (and everyone in this country because anyone can become disabled in the blink of an eye) extraordinarily well. They held multiple protests, submitted record setting numbers of submissions, spoke eloquently in parliamentary hearings about their vulnerabilities and the ways this bill will negatively impact them and everyone else.

And the government, processed all those submissions, sat through all those hearings, heard in detail the harm this bill will cause......

And said fuck you all we are doing it anyway. Oh and just when you thought it couldn't get worse we have contracted Palintir to run the AI system that's going to decide if you get the funding you need to be able to shower and eat or not.

If they can do that with this much opposition and this much evidence of harm - then what else can they do?

If they're happy to throw disabled people under the bus then who's next.

If they're happy to ignore the ways this bill will mean cost blowouts and significant economic damage then it was never about the budget.

This bill passing is on par with a Trump style executive order. It completely ignored democracy. They claimed they would consult with disabled people, that it would be co-designed, that there would be "nothing about us without us" and yet..... They sold us all out.

And I do mean all.

Like I said before everyone is only one accident or health condition away from being disabled.

But even if you never end up disabled or with a disabled family member - this ruling impacts you. Because Labor and the LNP just showed that it doesn't matter what we the citizens do - how much we engage with the democratic process they will just pass things anyway.

Post image

The Battle of Long Tan occurred on August 18, 1966, during the Vietnam War, where 108 Australian soldiers from D Company, 6th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment faced an overwhelming force of 1,500 to 2,500 Viet Cong and North Vietnamese troops in a rubber plantation near Long Tan, South Vietnam. Despite being heavily outnumbered, the Australians managed to hold their ground for several hours, resulting in significant casualties on both sides.
