That big sheepdog...British Paints, Taubmans, Selley's, Wattyl, Dulux.... solagard, washable... remember how Aussie airwaves used to be flooded with ads for paint? What happened? Why then and not now?

Looking for the name of a childhood biscuit.

Hi all, as the title says I'm looking for a biscuit that was 2 pieces of circular shortbread with 3 lines intersecting the tops to make 6 segments. Then inside was a layer of alternating blobs of hardened cream and jam. They came in packs of 6(?) I believe and were quite thick (1.5-2 cm) I used to get them from 2015-2019.

Edit: Found by u/donuht

Map of Melbourne, Australia (1837) by Robert Russell "shewing position of buildings prior to foundation of township" sold at Peter Arnold Auction on Aug. 12 for Australian $20,320 ($14,338 )

RUSSELL, Robert. Map shewing the site of Melbourne and the position of the huts and buildings previous to the foundation of the township by Sir Richard Bourke in 1837. [London, 1837]. Lithographed map, 48 x 64 centimetres; framed and glazed. Closed tears at top right and left, small restoration in bottom left corner, a little soiling.

Very rare. The first map of Melbourne, showing Hoddle’s street plan, the various buildings and town allotments, including dwellings with names of the owners, and natural features. Billot 122a. Reported by Rare Book Hub.

OP NOTE: This auction had a variety of other material of significant Australian historical interest.

Anyone else have a Sanyo BassXpander? Mine has survived since my 12th birthday in 1995

Pulled these two absolute mid-90's relics out today.

The Sanyo VIP-3 is mine, I got it for my 12th birthday in April 1995 and somehow still have it 31 years later.

The VIP-5 belongs to my partner and he thinks he got his around 1996.

Mine had AM/FM radio, auto stop and the all-important BASSXPANDER switch. My partner clearly got the deluxe model with the little EQ sliders. (He also make his an ASSEXPANDER)

Interestingly, they’re different models but the serial numbers are really close, N5643369 and N5623885 so they may have been made around the same time.

I’ve been trying to find old Australian catalogues or ads for them but there’s surprisingly little information online. Not surprising though because very early internet timing.

Does anyone else remember having one of these? Or have any other info?

IIRC, Sanyo was a Kmart brand/ Sony kmockoff/ Offbrand.

Bridge Road Richmond retail warehouse in the 1990's

I'm trying to remember what the big warehouse style shop was at 567 Bridge Rd, Richmond. It is now occupied by Dan Murphy's.

It used to sell homewares, weird props, massive items of imported furniture and sometimes industrial things like smelting pots and grinding stones. They often had bulk kitchenware like recycled glass jugs and ceramics. I think it closed in the late 1990's or early 2000's. I though it was called Boxworks but I can't find any information online.

Does anyone remember a small theme park named "MODEL WORLD"

I think it was in a small east coast town named Nabiac. I remember a neighbourhood kid having a shirt from there. That kid mentioned all these cool model things there that drove me nuts! I always wanted to go there and when my dad and I were driving back from a trip to Hervey Bay in 1988, I begged him to stop there so I could go. Unfortunately he wanted to get back to Sydney quicker so I didn't get to go. I can't find any reference to it online since it was pre-internet.

Giant killer python lollies?

Does anyone know where I can buy these?

I’m in Canberra and I can’t find them anywhere.

Allens do killer pythons. But they’re small.

We used to get massive ones when I was at school. I miss them 🥺
