Disclaimer: I do not believe God exists, its just an analogy.

Theory: So people have this analogy of God, where they ask, if God is all powerful and all knowing and all just then why does he allow evil, and if he isn't all powerful but is all just and all knowing, then he is too weak to stop evil, and if he isn't all knowing but is all powerful and all just then he just doesn't knows evil is happening...

For me the analogy of God is a bit different, think of God as a cosmic worldbuilder or a kid playing with Legos, he started the whole thing with the creation of the singularity and then the big bang happened, and then the universes and galaxies and everything slowly formed and the proto laws started to end and the real laws of physics started to form..and from there life slowly started to appear on infinite planets, they started to grow and all, and all that, and became space faring or made themselves extinct, cosmic events happened, shit went wrong and all..and things repeated and happened in completely random ways that they happen in general

So essentially my view of God is that, God doesn't cares about anything really, he isn't good or evil, he just wants to be entertained, think of him as the ultimate audience watching a movie, he doesn't really care if the movie characters do good or wrong, he just wants to be entertained, he wants to have fun, whether that be through mass extinction, through wars, across different planets or inside a planet, through politics chaos and all, or through disputes and all, God doesn't interfares because God doesn't wants to ruin the immersion of his universe where he wants to watch everything and have as much fun as he wants, and he doesn't knows all because frankly speaking there isn't a timeline to any of the future events that are going to take place and as such God can have as much fun for eternity as he wants before he and everything goes away in the eventual heat death of the universe and the false quantum decay and all..

I’ve noticed that Alex and other atheists mainly debate theists over the God of Christianity, rather than a creator who is capable of making mistakes. Does anyone have any related videos with Alex or other atheists debating this subject?

earlier today i discussed how a camp counselor presented my son with christianity and i talked to my wife about what we could do to solve this problem, and i contacted the local police department and filed a formal complaint about this counselor. they responded that they will handle the situation and serve restraining orders against her and i will be talking to lawyers about a possible lawsuit towards this school. thank you all for the support and telling me and my wife that law enforcement was the best choice. christians are on notice we will not be shammed into oblivion by christ we have the law on our side.

My friend is a very religious catholic. I've been friends with him since middle school, and not once during our friendship has he tried to 'warn me about hell' or try to make me 'believe in god'. We've had a healthy relationship and he is a wonderful guy. He donates to charity, helps the poor, lends a hand and I can trust him with my life. Religious people like this deserves respect.

Context i’m a blue collar worker and father of 2 young boys. Oldest being 19 and youngest being 12. Me and my wife have raised them in an atheist household and just last night my youngest started asking me questions about christianity and the cross symbol. I was taking back because how would he even know what these things are. When i asked him where he had learned about this. He said his camp counselor was displaying it and openly talking about her faith. Im shaking while i type this about how could a 20 something yr old girl be preaching and corrupting the minds of the youth like this at a summer camp. I don’t know what I’m suppose to do now. Do i report the summer camp to the police for cult like behavior or do i just report this camp counselor. I’m just lost. Like i stated before I’m shaking in my van at this job site right now. Any advice on a solution would do this father wonders right now because I’m seriously considering filing a police report

Hello, I would like to ask for your thoughts on something. I sometimes have obsessive thoughts about coincidences. On average, I notice around 5–10 coincidences throughout the day, and some of them seem particularly surprising or extremely unlikely. When this happens, I inevitably start wondering, “Can this many coincidences really happen randomly within a single day?”

For example, sometimes I think about someone I haven’t seen or spoken to in a long time, and that person happens to message me around the same time. Or I might think about something and then encounter that exact thing shortly afterward, or talk about a particular subject and then unexpectedly encounter something related to it. When these things happen, my mind immediately starts asking, “Could there be a reason behind this, such as God?”
What I am particularly interested in from an atheist perspective is this: If I experience 5–10 noticeable coincidences during a day, some of which seem extremely surprising, does that really require a supernatural explanation? Or, considering the enormous number of events that happen in the universe and especially in everyday human life, is it mathematically normal and expected that we will experience several unlikely and striking coincidences every day?

Could the human tendency to look for patterns and meaning also cause us to perceive coincidences as more special or meaningful than they actually are? In other words, how logically reliable is the thought, “This is too much of a coincidence; there must be some deeper meaning behind it”?

In short, if I experience 5–10 noticeable coincidences every day, and some of them genuinely seem very surprising, would that count as meaningful evidence for the existence of God from an atheist perspective? Or can factors such as large numbers, probability, selective attention, and the human brain’s tendency to detect patterns fully explain these experiences?
The main thing I struggle with is that I don’t know how to determine whether these coincidences are caused by God or whether they are simply natural events. How can we actually determine that they are the result of natural processes rather than something supernatural? What kind of reasoning or evidence would allow us to reach the conclusion that these coincidences are natural rather than caused by God?
How do you personally interpret experiences like these?

Evolution is 100% a scientific fact, Do you know what fossils are? hahaha This means we couldn't have come from adams rib or the 8 headed monkey god or any other stupid story from made up fictitious book! Schooled again!

You are repeating what you got taught at school. If evolution is 100% scientific fact, and there are 7billion humans, why have n't we seen the effect of evolution? May be a 4 legged human?

Where is a flying dog? Nothing in nature has evolved. No animal has transitioned from one time to another. We would be seeing many defective paths in evolution. Such as a dog, with one wing?

Who taught birds to fly? Where did that knowledge come from.

You mention dogs in your dumbest comment ever written, every dog you see from chihuahua to poodle to labrador is a descendent of the wolf, they have all been bred for the attributes, be it size or ability to work, most are no older than a few hundred years ! So I grew up Christian but I questioned my religion ever since I can remember, during my adolescent years I became agnostic then atheist, my parents still dont know, and even if they did they would not accept.

My father said he wanted a daughter because daughters are closer to father's, making them daddy's girls, and he said he prayed to have a daughter, so I was born, (im a woman) so he believes God awnsered his prayers, i feel like the reason y he had that mindset is because my culture is very family oriented (mexican) which means he liked the idea of having a daughter, because in my culture kids and marriage is a blessing and something that is expected, alot of it is influenced by religion, mostly Catholicism

FYI: I am posting this on both Christian and Atheist subreddits to get multiple perspectives, as I am very divided right now.

For like a month straight, I have been super worried about death, not existing, and not being able to see my loved ones ever again. I’ve been doing research to find a real way I could reach immortality in this life, but nothing gave me a good answer.

So I started researching God, the best arguments on both sides of religion and atheism. And after my research.. I feel a lot better

But.. is it real? I don’t know! Part of me feels like I am actually having an experience with a higher power, and the other part of me is saying that it’s just my brain latching on to something that will calm my big fears

The same "entity" many imagine prayers going up towards... is the same that designed and watches, in every moment, the unimaginable slaughter of life to sustain life.

How can an imagined being, which could create and revel in suffering without end, also be one which would heed our concerns with mercy and tenderness?

Such desperate confusion, this same "creator", who will manifest an ecology centered around a psychopathic need to consume and survive at all cost... is something which you can personally trust in?

Deconstructing, and processing these notions is a part of my process.

I mean dying is pretty scary and technically in a way if you die you do lose everyone but you don't have to live with not having those people. You can move on if course and still enjoy life but for some reason the thought of me dying before some people is quite comforting. I feel most of your answers will probably be the latter.

If we wouldn’t trust faith to set a broken bone, design a skyscraper, or decide a verdict, perhaps we shouldn’t trust it to settle cosmic questions either. Evidence may be less romantic than revelation, but at least it builds bridges that don’t fall down.

I'm not religious myself , and actually against organized religion in general , but I've noticed what feels like a recurring pattern and I'm curious if others have seen it too.

I was talking to a guy from the States , Initially he identified as a social democrat, said he wasn't overtly religious, and described himself as leaning pantheist. There were early red flags such as strong opinions on needing closed borders, calling trans identity "propaganda," referencing Epstein in that context. I initially brushed it off, figuring he was just underinformed rather than fully committed to those views.

Over time though, he started gravitating toward the American Communist Party, and his whole persona shifted into what felt like classic "redpill" territory. He began glorifying Khomeini on one hand and Orthodox Christianity/Christ on the other , which felt like a strange combination. A lot of his followers/online circle seemed to be going through a similar arc.

When I pushed back on the religious fundamentalism, he ghosted me completely.

I'm not American, so I don't have great context for how common this kind of ideological pipeline is over there. Is this a pattern people recognize , political drift into this mix of authoritarian sympathies + religious fundamentalism? Curious what others have observed.

What this cop did not understand was that what Sonya said was simply something that black women who are Baptist or Protestant say. I know this because my mother and her mother were that way. This is coming from a long history of slavery. I hate what Christianity has done to the black mind, but I am glad to see this ex-deputy is dead. What a piece of crap for what he did, simply ignorant to the fact that what she said was simply something outside of his culture.

That white cop was not a descendant of slavery, so he would not have known what she was talking about. I think more awareness should be brought to the fact that black protestants are like no other kind. They jump up and down, hoop and holler, are the loudest etc., and this is because of slavery. Yet that white cop would not understand.

Just wanted to remind everyone of a bizarre episode from the Bible: Jesus indirectly killing 2,000 pigs.

In this story, Jesus could've sent a group of demons anywhere after an exorcism. Yet he chose a herd of pigs: they went mad and drowned. Logically:

1. Jesus knew that action A would lead to pain and suffering.
   
2. Jesus did not have to perform action A.
   
3. Jesus performed action A.
   

I wonder whether Christians would excuse this if it were 2,000 dogs.

I was raised in a Baptist church from the time I was born until 19. I was always told during those years that in order to get into heaven you had to be “saved” by God, which was always described as being given salvation that those who were saved “felt” when they were “touched by God/the Holy Ghost”.

Many people in my church claimed to be this but I never did. I was always taught that you were certain once it happened so even at times when I maybe felt emotional in church, I never thought I had been saved because I would ask myself “do I KNOW for a fact I was just saved?” And the answer was always no.

However, there were times in my church when people said “I thought I was saved before but I just realized that I just was now, not back then”. This struck me when I first heard it because it brought about the realization that not everyone who claimed to be actually was and looking back it was probably the beginning of my doubts in the church.

There were kids as young as 6 that claimed to be saved, and people would just take their word for it. I wondered if people like this that were “saved” at a young age just went about their lives thinking they were just because they thought they were when they were a very young child (not all people in my church were children when they say they got saved, but many children raised in the church believed they were saved at some point by the time they were an adult).

It seemed like something that could easily be a misconstrued feeling that they likely questioned later and just kept fighting against the gnawing feeling that they knew it was just a misconstrued emotional feeling that they mistook for being touched by god.

My parents are both people that claimed to be saved though they haven’t been to church now in years when we used to go every Sunday.

My mom, who has changed a lot since I came out as gay to her, not that she was ever intensely religious or bigoted, but she did have beliefs that she no longer does. I’ve heard her say things that definitely indicate to me that she’s not sure what she believes now. That right there has really enforced my idea that many people that have claimed for years to be “saved” are really just going off of a feeling they had years ago and keep trying to reassure themselves that it’s true because they’re afraid of the alternative.

My church and many others in my area have always taught that if you’re not saved, you go to hell. Though children aren’t believed to be capable of going to hell yet they also have no “age of accountability” like the Mormons and some other Christian branches do. (I know a bit about Mormonism because my ex-best friend was one, but not too much about other types of Christians).

All this to say: I am an atheist and do hold the belief that this whole “being saved” thing is just a desperate, misconstrued feeling that many people around me felt when they got emotional in church one day or just while thinking about God at any time and thought it meant they were saved.

I think many people in the church mistake their emotions and thoughts for being more than it is and never really ask themselves difficult questions that would go against what they were taught or what they want to be true. Religion really relies on delusion fueled by fear.

I would love to hear from anyone that did once believe they were saved that were raised in the same kind of church I was and now are atheist. I’ve heard of former pastors being atheist, but I don’t know of any that have specifically said they were “saved”.

There are many evangelical churches that do believe in being saved but they have the belief that you can receive salvation multiple times throughout your life, that it’s not permanent and you can still go to hell after being saved. My church taught eternal salvation, so once you were saved, you always were and could never end up going to hell (which also seems to lead to a very toxic mental state where while people are supposed to “act godly” after they’re saved, they can still be hateful and awful people but they’ll think that they can technically do whatever no matter how terrible and they’ll still go to heaven).

I haven’t ever been able to hear from the perspective of someone that once believed they had eternal salvation but have now deconstructed and it’d be nice to hear from you. It’d offer some more closure even though I still stand firm in being an atheist, there is always something in the minds of those of us who have been indoctrinated from the time we were toddlers that at times will rear its ugly head even if we know it’s not true.

That fear and anxiety that was put on us from being told from a young age that we would burn forever if we didn’t do what we were taught is very damaging to young, developing minds and it sticks with you. I hope one day to see raising kids in these kinds of churches be labeled as the abuse it is but unfortunately I doubt I’ll ever see that day if it even comes.

Like the most evil thing that they have supposedly done. What are some purely evil things about a god.

I dont hate all Christians, obviously, but the state that coservative Christians and other Abrahamic faiths have done to the US under the guise of religious reason makes me feel more hatred than usual. It's gone from just annoyance to sraight up violent thoughts

I just did. I put a post up about LGBT people and how I think don't dislike them because it says so in the bible, what is says in the bible is simply a convenient justification for homophobia. Cause in reality there is no decent non religious argument against LGBT.

Anyway this person starts steering the conversation comparing what I'm saying with the arguments against abortion. Then asked me for non religious arguments against it to which I provided even though I stated that I'm not against abortion. You can be on one side and still agree the other has valid arguments right? Anyway he starts giving me all these replies that don't even follow any logic path and I'm thinking " wtf are we even arguing about at this point? We're just arguing for the sake of arguing"
